Chapter 26: Chapter 26
OBLIVIOUS TO DANGER
At last a fleet of fire fighters interrupted Jason and Ariana's lustful stare when they broke through the door.
They were informed that the building had been on fire for over twenty-seven minutes. It was a miracle that any of the victims were still alive.
It was reported that the entire building was suddenly engulfed in flames.
The police were also invited on noticing Robbo's gun wound. "There's no mention of a gunshot. A lot must have happened here," an officer said aloud.
But first things first, the victims were rushed to different hospitals. They included some guests of the party that didn't go into the separate room and of course, Jason, Ariana, Jemimah and Roberto.
Robbo fainted while resting his head on his fiancee's thighs. The others were too shocked by the transformations that took place earlier. They couldn't say a word to anyone. Even if any of them did, nobody was willing to put them through the stress of talking after what they had experienced.
At exactly noon, Jason Sam woke up. He had a fear of being in hospitals. But it was quite beautiful here when compared to where Jemimah was taken when she was involved in an accident not so long ago.
He was still in so much pain. But his heart trembled at the thought of everything that happened earlier. Now, he wanted to talk to somebody. But no one was in sight.
Soon, it was time for the daily sports recap airing on the muted TV hanging on the wall a few meters in front of him. And none else but Coach Sergio appeared on the screen! He appeared to be briefing the press as regards the very unfortunate incident that befell some of his players at a crucial time of the season. As soon as Jason saw him, his heart began to race "Somebody help me!"
While he was shouting, his mind raced back to Jemimah. He was really worried about the state of her health. Jason remembered seeing ambulances, police officers and firefighters. But he did not know who to trust anymore. "Doctor! Nurse! Can anybody hear me?"
"You need to rest, sir," a nurse rushed into the room. She advised him to no avail.
"I want to see Jemimah Carpenter. Where is she?" he asked. Then, it occurred to him that one of his hands was cuffed to the hospital bed.
"Milverton's Roberto Torres was shot in the leg. Now he has been dealt with probably a career threatening injury. So everyone present at the party you attended is a suspect until proven innocent." The nurse looked at him. "So, there is already enough to worry about. But first, do your best to rest to heal properly. After that you can settle the whatever it is that bothers you."
Jason wanted to tell her that Coach Sergio was the shooter but he quickly stopped himself. He recalled all the wondrous happenings. 'Who would believe such a story?' he thought to himself.
Secondly, the coach disappeared before the police made their arrival. He would be regarded as a traumatized patient if he mentioned any name. So, he relaxed himself and shut his eyes in order to convince the nurse that he was trying to catch some sleep.
Meanwhile Sergio knew that both Ariana and Jason could now wield a little bit of their power. However, they were reckless. Therefore, it was very dangerous to offend them. Instead, he sought the easiest way out. Firstly, he would kill Roberto while he was still admitted, because the player happened to be the weakest of the four! 'When I'm done with him, Jemimah will be next!'
He ought to be very cautious as regards her. She must be someone special to the loyal followers of Faya. The coach was quite surprised to see her manifest in the manner she did. But he had other ideas. While he was lost in thoughts, a sinister smile appeared on his face.
Roberto was still asleep in a ward at a different hospital. A nurse and a policeman were positioned to monitor him, being a victim of gunshot.
He had been asked a series of questions much earlier. But the veteran footballer denied recognising the shooter for fear of being disbelieved. 'Perhaps, my silence could arouse some kind of pity within Sergio,' he thought.
After a few hours passed, the coach became restless. He decided to transform into a transparent state and add some poisonous substance to the intravenous medicine being administered to Roberto. He was doing his best to make sure neither Jason nor Ariana sensed his power.
It took some minutes for him to locate Roberto's ward. Contrary to what he thought, both Jason and Ariana felt a rush of energy through their bodies every time he made use of spiritual powers.
The police officer was on a lunch break. The man still paid rapt attention even while eating. Still, he didn't have the slightest idea that there would be an invisible attacker in the ward.
The nurse seemed to like the officer. She was staring at him coquettishly while he was munching on a piece of warm sausage roll.
Roberto was now awake. But thoughts of his beloved Ariana was all that occupied his mind. He wondered where she had been taken to and how he could see her. The footballer was totally oblivious to the danger he was in.
