Chapter 54: Chapter 54
"I know-"
Ashley cut her off by walking to the hand drier putting her hand under it. The machine made a sound and she dried her hand while keeping eye contact with Navaeh.
Navaeh pursed her lips and waited for her bring her hand down. Once she did and the machine went quiet, she opened her mouth to talk again and yet, Ashley put her hand under the machine making it sound again.
She brought her hand down only to put it back up again when Navaeh opened he's mouth to talk.
She was obviously telling her she didn't want to talk to her but Navaeh was persistent and she reached out snatching her hand from under the machine.
"Oh, your hand is still wet." She said noticing the dampness in Ashley hand.
"What are you doing here?" Ashley asked.
"To talk to you duh." Navaeh said.
Ashley rolled our eyes and walked back to the mirror tearing off tissue papers.
"Right. Why me? Why not Cornelia?" She asked as she folded the tissue into a square.
"Because you are my best friend and I wanted to apologize to you for saying you would have cared." She replied taking the tissue from her.
She folded the square into a smaller shape and turned Ashley to herself.
"Don't apologize to me. I don't want your apology." She replied sulkily and stood still while Navaeh cleaned her mascara with the edge of the tissue paper.
"I know you don't want it, but I want to apologize anyways", She said frowning as the edge soon became black.
"Why would you want to apologize to someone who doesn't want your apology ", Ashley replied.
"Because even though that someone might not want my apology she is still my best friend. And I will see to apologizing to her till she forgives me. And trust me I'm very persistent. You'll definitely get tired of me apologizing every day. And so save yourself the trouble and just accept it now." She replied with a smile.
"Oh yeah? I would definitely like to see you try." Ashley challenged crossing her arm.
"Oh my God. Ashley, don't do this you will regret it", Navaeh said with a chuckle. Ashley shook her head and joined in the laughter.
"You're such a douchebag."
"Oh! You laughed. Does that mean you accept my apology?" Navaeh asked pointing at her friend with a smile on her face.
Ashley rolled her eyes and faced the mirror without responding her friend. But she had already given her answer.
She turned around and threw the used tissue paper away into the dustbin. She then put off her bag on her back and opened it.
She pulled out a bunch of cosmetics and aligned them on the sink.
"Alright. Let's get to work!" She said taking the mascara.
Ashley rolled her eyes but she still stood still for Navaeh to put the make up on her.
"Girls?! We're leaving." Quinnel yelled strolling into the school.
"Ooh, that's your prince Charming! Come on, let's go."
"What Prince Charming? Please stop with the tease, let's just go." Navaeh replied with a chuckle and put all the cosmetics from the sink into her bag. She backed it and Ashley looped her hand into her arched elbow as the two friends bounced out of the Bathroom.
They saw Quinnel striding towards the them with another person in tow.
"Jake!" Ashley yelled running to the guy behind Quinnel.
"Hey!" Jake replied with a bubbly voice as he grinned at Ashley.
Jake was dressed in a blue t-shirt with black trouser. He wore a pair of White Jordan Sneakers too match.
"Jake. You're here." Navaeh said pulling at her bag.
"Yeah, Hey baby."
Everyone choked on their spit most especially Quinnel who was already glaring at him.
"I'm sorry?" Ashley said and she looked at Quinnel with a hung open mouth.
"What? I was simply reading what is written on her shirt." He replied with a shrug.
Everyone's eyes went Navaeh's shirt. True enough, Hey baby was written in a bold red font on her shirt.
"Oh! For a moment there, I thought you were going to lose your head today." Ashley joked.
Jake looked at her in confusion with a raised brow. Ashley open her mouth to say something when a brother's voice echoed through the empty hallway.
"Guys! The coach is yelling his head off! I hope that man doesn't kill himself someday."
"Well, I guess we should go then." Navaeh said and pulled Quinnel along with her. Ashley and Zaire and Jake followed behind them.
"Where have you guys been?!" The Coach yelled open setting his eyes on them.
"We are sorry coach." They search simultaneously.
"Just get your ass in the Bus!" He replied instead.
Quinnel and Navaeh walked into the bus and settled for a empty two seats beside the window.
Quinnel was the one in the front so he got to sit by the window exactly while Navaeh was stuck with the aisle seat. She looked outside and pouted her lips which Quinnel saw and chuckled.
"Get over here." He said and without warning, he carried her body unto his lap and shifted to her former seat.
"What are you doing?" She whispered not wanting to draw attention to her not knowing everyone's eyes was glued to them.
Betsy had pulled out her phone and took the picture before posting it with a caption saying
"Not every man can give up the window seat for his woman." and then she pressed share.
Once Quinnel was settled on his seat, Navaeh shifted her body to occupy his former seat before turning to him with a slap on the chest.
"You should have told me before you did that." She said and he chuckled.
"Then you would have been compassionate and say it didn't matter and I shouldn't worry. I want you to enjoy every second of this trip. So if you want the window seat, I would gladly give it up for you." He said and Navaeh blushed even though it didn't show on her brown skin.
"You guys are going to make a cute couple." Ashley said turning around to face the two of them.
She, Jake and Zaire had taken the three seat in front of them.
"Yes, they would." Jake said and for the first time since Jake got to their school, Quinnel didn't glare his at him when he opened his mouth to talk.
He was starting to accept him for that one sentence.
