Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Author's POV
"Aw, are you okay?" Jake asked with a smile.
"This is not funny. But what was I to expect?" She grumbled and took her sneakers to wear it.
What was the point of getting up again? She has already fallen on the hard floor, her butt was aching so why get up before she wore her sneakers?
"Come on." He added stretching his arm to her and she eyed it suspiciously. She looked up at his face her eyes squinted as he was standing right beside the sun.
She looked back down and tied the lace of her sneakers. Once it was done, she looked back up to see his hand was still stretched to her.
Was he serious? What fool would take his hand after he had just offered her help only to drop her a few seconds later?
Jake understand the look in her eyes and he rolled his eyes. Everyone would think that.
"I'm not going to drop you again. That was payback. So bring your hand, stop behaving like a child and let's get this over with already." He said and she stared at emotionlessly despite the fact that the sun was beginning to obstruct her vision.
She shook her head to clear the light headedness she was feeling from the sun and she blinked a few times feeling her eyes go back to normal.
"Come on." Jake said again and took her hand off her laps. She peered up at him to see he had blocked the sun with his body so it didn't enter her eyes anymore.
With another yelp, she was off the ground with Jake's help and dangerously close to his chest.
She looked up into his eyes blushing slightly when she noticed he has been looking at her all along.
"Wanna get dropped again?" Jake asked and her eyes widened when she registered his words.
"No! Of course not!" She yelled pushing her body away from him and standing stealthily.
"Didn't think so." He said with a snort and she rolled her eyes at him.
"Why were you chasing after me?" He asked and she remembered what she was there for in the first place. She turned to him slowly before she smiled.
"I know I've been a bitch to you since you came this morning and I want to apologize for my behavior." She said and he raised a brow.
Was it him or he wasn't hearing an apology?
"When do you plan on doing it then?" He asked and she blinked.
"Huh?"
"The apology. You said you're going to apologize but I don't hear a sorry. You know actions and words are two different things. Saying you would do it and doing it are two different things."
He crossed his arm and waited for her to get her voice back which seemed lost when he was talking.
Navaeh pursed her lips looking at the obnoxious yet seemingly smart boy in front of her. She finally knew why she didn't want him in the school and came off rude.
She was afraid he would take up her limelight. The guy was with no doubt hot and cute... He was going to be very popular in the school, amongst girls mostly.
He seemed smart to her and she was scared he was going to be as intelligent as her or maybe even more than her and so there went her popularity.
She was feeling insecure.
Jake looked on at the girl that had things running in her mind which he was oblivious to.
"I'm sorry." She let out surprising him.
He has expected her to flare up and tell him to go to hell. She had said she would apologize, and he asked her to do it with immediate effect which she surprisingly did.
"What?" He asked and she raised a brow at him.
"I said I'm sorry." She replied slowly as if she was talking to a child. Her younger sisters, if you would please.
"Wow. That was... unbelievable. I suddenly feel good." He said with a grin.
"What?" She asked in confusion.
"I mean, I didn't know people telling me sorry would feel this way. People in my age bracket I mean." He said and she raised a brow.
"As you might know, I didn't particularly get along with my classmates so no one talked to me that much. I could only hold out until this long."
"Why did they hate you so much?" She asked her voice in a whisper.
"Are you kidding me? I'm black, duh." He said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
It was, but there was another reason. A reason he would like to keep away from in this school. Except the girl in front of him knew there was more to it.
"There's one more reason. There is no way they only hated you for being black." She said crossing her arm.
"Yeah and what's that?" He asked mirroring her action. He had a slight smirk tugged on his lips since he knew he wasn't going to say it even if she got it right.
"Think about it. Sure, you're black... But you're superior to them in something. Something I'm going to find out." She said and he grinned feeling thrilled by this turn of events.
"Yeah? Say, should we make a bet?" He asked and she looked at him with an amused smile.
"Nah, you would lose. Cause I already have a clue... I don't want you to do something you don't wanna do but have to do cause it's a bet. So, nah." She said tapping his chest lightly.
Jake caught her hand before she could tap him again.
"What are you doing?" She asked her smile dropping in a second. She looked up to see a dangerous glint flash in his eyes.
With a tug, he pulled her closer to his chest. She subconsciously held his chest placing her hand on it to stop her moving more further.
Both were unaware of the cold eyes peering at them from behind Jake.
