Chapter 44: Chapter 44
"Oh my Goodness! Are you okay? I really didn't mean to do that. Can you stand?" She asked Jake her hand flying to cover her mouth that dropped open when she gasped.
"It's fine." Jake croaked out leaning on the wall with veins popping out of his neck.
He had a strong body, this girl's punch was just way to harsh. Jeez, whoever that was meant for owes him a drink. And he would see to collecting it.
"I guess it's payback for bumping into you yesterday."
Which was entirely her fault. She was the one that wasn't looking ahead of her. She just turned abruptly and collided into the poor guy.
She blinked at him as he spouted the lie. She knew it was entirely her fault but her pride wouldn't let her admit it and so she stuck with pushing it on him.
Both parties knew whose fault it was but Jake didn't want her to feel bad while Navaeh didn't want to admit to it.
"Can you walk? Do you need my help? I can totally help you. But really why did you sneak up behind me? I thought it was that buffoon!" She accused and his mouth dropped open yet again.
"Close your mouth. I heard buzzing a few minutes ago." She mumbled to his hearing and he snapped his mouth shut immediately.
He looked at the girl that fiddled with the hem of her jacket with a pout on her lips. He pursed his before he pushed himself off the wall.
"Come on sister, help a brother out." He said raising his arm to her.
Navaeh's head snapped up at the term he just called her with. Sister? Since when? When and where were they acquainted?!
"Sister?" She voiced out.
"No, no. You call me brother. You're the sister and I'm the brother." He corrected.
"What?"
"What?"
"Oh Goodness. It's a waste of time with you." She said to herself not noticing the slightest change in the expression of the jovial boy.
Waste of time? He scoffed and tugged at his bag before he turned around and walked away from her.
Waste of time? He was wasting her time? He really has no idea why she hated him or seemed to dislike him. All their encounter was at the park and there, she seemed nice.
How come she had changed in a span of some hours?
"Hey, are you sure you don't want anything?!" He heard behind him and he rolled his eyes making his way to the administration office.
Fine then, if she hated him that much, there was no problem. He would keep his distance from her.
Navaeh watched him leave and couldn't help but tilt her head in confusion.
"I wonder what's up with him?"
She hissed in a breath and turned around to go her own way.
"Hey Neve!" She heard from behind her and she turned around to the twins walking really fast towards her.
"Hey guys." She greeted.
"Did you see Jake?"
"Yeah, he went that way and didn't even reply me again. Why? Did you he say something to you?"
"Yeah, he said you're black and he's black... Mostly stuffs about how you guys are so compatible. He even said he was happy and was already thinking since he was not the only black in the school, you guys would get along well and shit. That boy was happy as fuck." Zaire explained.
Jake had rambled to them on how happy he was coming to their school and how he was always bullied in his former school for being the only black guy.
And once he realized Navaeh was a respected figure in this school despite being black, he decided this school was the best for him.
"Well, that's very different to what just happened."
Navaeh couldn't comprehend the guy. He said he was happy to be in the school then why was he acting like he was not?
"Are you sure? What exactly happened?" Ashley asked all in for the gist.
The girl had been pushing the thoughts of her ex girlfriend to the back of her mind so she wouldn't brood over it.
Once in a while, she would go over their chats and sigh. All the signs were there.
She noticed she hadn't been coming to school and she didn't even care, surprisingly enough to both her and her brother.
Navaeh narrated what happened from the part where she jabbed her elbow into his stomach to where he turned around with another word.
"Why do you hate him?" Was the first question that flew out of Ashley's mouth.
"I don't hate him." She replied firmly ignoring the voice that whispered otherwise in her mind.
Why would she hate him? She didn't even know the guy!
"Sounds to me like you do." Zaire replied and she turned to him with one brow raised.
"Why do you say that?" She asked crossing her arm in front of her.
"I mean, you've only known the guy for like, how many minutes? First you tell him to introduce himself and tell us how he's not acquainted to you like he was some stain you wanted to remove from you." Zaire paused to check her expression for an emotion. Once he saw none, he continued.
"And also, you said he was wasting your time. Like you would rather spend time in a jungle than be anywhere near him. And the guy is like really cool. He has no problems so I can't actually figure out why you hate him so." He concluded and walked away before she could even utter a word of response.
Ashley sighed when her brother left them.
Navaeh looked down at her squeaky white clean sneakers before she looked back up.
"Was I really acting like a bitch?" She asked in a small voice and reluctantly, Ashley nodded her head.
"Do you feel threatened by him?"She couldn't help but ask.
Navaeh shuffled on her feet with a slight change in expression. The change in her expression confirmed that Ashley had hit the nail right on its head.
Navaeh was threatened by the new boy? Why?
