Chapter 12: Chapter 12

"Tired are you?" Koa teased.

"Very." I said truthfully.

"Hn. Someone is being lazy today." He said and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Blame it all on school." I said and he laughed at me.

I shook my head at him.

"Anything new at School?" He asked and I nodded my head.

"Remember Quinnel?" I asked and he blinked for a while thinking of him.

"Oh yeah! I got him. What's up with him? You finally told him to like him?" He rambled and I frowned.

"I don't like him." I said and he rolled his eyes.

"Keep fooling yourself. Either ways, what's up with him?" He asked and I pouted facing the other side.

"Come on... Really?" He said and I didn't reply him.

"Babe?"

"Baby girl?"

"Sugar plum? My baby? Cupcake?"

"Eww! Shut the fuck up." I said with a scrunched up nose.

"Ah, there we go." He said pointing at me with a click of his tongue.

"What do you want?" I asked him.

"Ah, don't do this to me! You were obviously going to tell me something about Quinnel!"

"Was I?" I asked innocently.

"I'll do anything. Just tell me about it!"

That's Koa for you. Loves gist as much as his own life. I don't know... He can practically do anything for just a little bit of gist.

"I want ice cream. Strawberry and Vanilla flavour."

"Done. Tell me."

"Fine. He apologized on... Saturday, was it?" I said and he shrunk back.

"Saturday? And you're just telling me?!" He yelled and I squeezed my face at the sudden impact of his voice.

"Sorry sorry." He apologized.

"Well, you don't expect me to come running at you when he called me now did you? And we didn't have our shift on Saturday and Sunday and today is just Monday, Koa."

"Oh... Yeah, that makes sense." He said nodding his head.

"Everything I say makes sense." I muttered.

"What was that you just said?" He asked and I was quick to shake my head negative.

"So you guys dating now?" He said and I turned my head to him in disbelief.

"Just because we reconciled doesn't mean we're dating. Get your fucking mind out of the damned gutter!" I said smacking his back.

"Ow! I thought... Oh shit!" He said suddenly his eyes trained in something or someone behind me. Frozen as ice.

"What?" I asked turning my head to wherever or whatever he was looking at.

"Oh fuck." I said once I saw him.

There our boss was standing with a glare directed at us. I gulped hard on my seat feeling it now hot and I jumped up from his banging Koa a little bit in the process.

"Ow!" He yelled again and I rolled my eyes at him.

"What are you doing Miss... What was that your name?" Our Boss asked with a cold voice.

Our Boss, Mr Soman was a fat man with potbellied stomach. He drank. A lot. We all knew it. He reeked of Alcohol most of the time.

"Me, sir?" I asked and he still continued to glare.

"It's Maisy sir." We heard a shaky voice behind us making us turn our head to a woman, our co worker, holding a mop in one hand and a bucket in another.

"So why are you just standing there?" He asked and she shook.

"I thought... I saw something... on the ground sir. I was hoping... to clean... it off when I... saw you and stood... to greet you sir." She stuttered and I didn't believe her one bit.

I heard our boss grunt and then I turned around to him. His and my eyes made contact and he glared. Hard.

"Why are you just standing there like a tree? Go back to work! Both of you!" He barked and immediately I took a shoe and started polishing it even though it was already polished.

I saw Koa looking through the machine. He was doing practically nothing but so was I.

The Boss grunted and then finally left for his office. I heaved a sigh of relief once he was gone dropping the napkin unto the counter.

"Tired are you?" Koa teased.

"Very." I said truthfully.

The Boss grunted and then finallyleft for his office. I heaved a sigh of relief once he was gone dropping the napkin unto the counter.

"Dickhead." I muttered sitting down.

"I hate that man. He's too scary." Maisy said taking her mop off the floor.

"I agree. But why were you just standing there?"

"I... I just said it to the boss. Bye bye." She said and went away.

"What will you do if he comes back?" Koa asked me and I rolled my eyes.

"I didn't come to this life for him. Nobody can kill me." I said and he chuckled a little bit.

"He's coming back!" He yelled and then went back to the computer.

I immediately jumped up and took the napkin cleaning the shoe I dropped.

I heard no footsteps or grunting so I turned my head to the back to see it empty.

"I thought you said he was coming, Koa." I said and turned to Koa who was pursing his lips.

As soon as our eyes met each other, he bursted into laughter pointing at me.

I almost cursed him right there and then.

Koa had black hair that was long enough to fall on his back. His eyes were almost black except it was grey in colour.

He had this colourless rimmed glasses that he used which fitted him quite well.

He shook his head and I smacked his back. A customer arrived and we attended to him.

"It's 6pm. Your shift is over." I heard making me turn my head to Bennie.

"Thanks Bennie." I said walking to the locker room.

Koa was trailing behind me and I turned my body to see him keeping his hand in his cargo pants looking up ahead.

I faced front and pushed the heavy door to let myself into the locker room. Taking off the Bunny's Bowling staff shirt, I walked out of the Bowling place with my bag on my arm.

"See you tomorrow, Navaeh." Koa greeted waving at me and I greeted him back.

Sitting at the bus stop waiting for my bus, I brought out my phone to play games to while away time while the bus came.

A notification dropped down and I looked up from the game to read it. It was Quinnel surprisingly.

It read: Are you home yet?

I sighed and pressed it to reply him when the bus arrived. I immediately stood up making sure my bag was still on my arm and my phone in my right hand. Once I was inside and had paid with my card, I settled down at the window side pulling out my ear pod to listen to music.

My phone pinged again and I looked down at it.

Quinnel: Heaven? You done?

I typed a simple yes to him and pressed the power button briefly closing my eyes.

"The next stop is Maple Street." The automated voice said and I pressed the button next to me to notify to driver I was stopping there.

Once the bus came to an halt, I bounced out of the bus and walked the rest home. Opening the door with my key, I saw the time was now 6:30 pm. I showered and took a grey top from my wardrobe and threw it on taking a black shorts after it. The time was now 6:55 pm.

I immediately ran out of the room pushing my phone into my shorts pockets. After wearing a slippers, I locked the door after me taking note that our neighbors light was still out like a day.

Maybe they weren't around. I jogged my way over to the Ashford's realizing it's more further than I can even remember. I looked down at the tarred roads with the street lamps guiding my way.

I finally stopped when I saw a post. The Ashford's was written in capital letters on the black board.

I leaned over and looked at my back before I walked to the door pressing the doorbell.

"Coming." I heard a male's voice and I looked down at my foot. I turned my head to the bright porch that was green in colour courtesy of the vegetation on it.

The door clicked open and I turned my head to Quinnel staring at me and then he pulled me into a tight hug.

"Why didn't you reply my messages? Do you know how worried I was?! How scared I was?!" He yelled and I blinked at his house frozen.
