Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Van slowly opens his eyes. He realizes that he's still at the warehouse. He can still taste the blood in his mouth, as the result of the torture.
He can also see the rays of light streaming at the little window inside the warehouse.
"Maybe it's already afternoon." Van thought.
He tried to move again, but he suddenly felt a stab of pain in every fibre of his body. He cursed himself for being such a weakling. He forces himself to move, but his body doesn't really cooperate with him.
Van's so exhausted, helpless and thirsty. And his vision is starting to blur again...
Before he passes out, he saw the big gate opens, and he also heard the sound of footsteps, getting closer and closer...
======================
At a certain hospital in Kanagawa.
Van is already fast asleep. His head is fully bandaged, and the doctor treated the cuts and wounds on his face.
Meanwhile, Ren is staring at his older brother as if he would disappear at any minute.
"Ren, the doctor assured us that Van is out of danger now. So you don't have to worry anymore." she encouraged Ren.
"Who do you think did this to him?" Ren asked, in a controlled anger.
Reiko sighed in return.
"The police are doing their best to find the suspects. Just leave it to them." she advised.
I averted her eyes away from Reiko and Ren. She already have one person in mind who could be responsible on what happened to Van. But she still have to confirm her suspicions...
But the most important thing now is---Van is safe.
"Come,Ren.. Let's have a cup of coffee and some sandwich." Reiko persuaded Ren.
"I don't need it. I want to stay here." Ren curtly replied.
"I know you want to stay with your brother until he wakes up, but won't you at least eat something to regain your energy?" Reiko lectured him.
"But---!" Ren was about to protest again, but Reiko quicky interrupted him.
"No buts. Are you going to follow my orders or do you still want me to drag you out?" she warned him.
I smiled a little while watching them. It's like nothing has been changed at all.As if ten years didn't pass...
"Okay, I got it. How about you?" Ren turned his attention towards me.
"I'm fine, Ren. Just take your time." I replied.
"Well, see you later." Ren nodded, and then he made his way outside.
Meanwhile, Reiko gave me one last look before she followed Ren outside.
Once Reiko and Ren are gone, I lovingly stared at Van, while clasping his hand.
"I'm so sorry, Van. You ended up getting hurt because of me. But don't worry. From now on, I won't let anyone hurt you again..." she whispered, as she puts Van's hand into her cheek.
==========================
Two weeks have passed.
Van is completely healed, but the doctor still advised him to take a full rest. They still have to run another test on him just to make sure that there's no internal bleeding or any broken ribs, much to Van's disappoinment.
On that particular day, Van was left alone in the hospital room.
Van has not seen Nao for two weeks now. He wanted to see her, but there's still one thing that he needed to do. He needs to all of the evidences against the formidable businessman, Mr. Yoshida. When the right time comes, he will expose all his dirty, deep secrets to the world.
Van looked around his room.He saw his clothes folded neatly at the corner. He slowly got up from his bed, and took those clothes. He went inside the mini-bathroom and changed there. Good thing his wallet is still on the bedside table with enough money inside.
Once he made sure that he looks presentable, he quickly made his way out from the hospital building, with one destination in mind...
===================
At the same time...
I was busy rummaging through Mr. Yoshida desk as she was trying to find some evidence that is related to his drugs business which will somehow connect
to Van who was tortured last week. I've been doing my own research on "his father" for a week and I compiled them all so that it would be shown to the authorities.
I am now looking at Yoshida family's big portrait. Mrs.Yoshida has a classic beauty, and she looks similar with Seira, who was only seven years old at that portrait. Too bad, the lady of the Yoshida household already died because of a terminal disease. Meanwhile, Mr. Yoshida is smiling, and he looked so proud of his beautiful family.
But there is also something wrong with the portrait, and it's been bugging her for a few minutes now. The big portrait is not properly hanged on the wall...
I made my way towards the wall where the portrait was placed. She can see that the wall underneath the portrait was lighter, in contrast to the color of the walls in the study room.
Then one idea sprung into my mind...
I quickly lowered the portrait and I gasped in surprise when she saw a vault. And it was half-open! The old man must've forgotten to close it for some reason, like he was in a haste or something...
