Chapter 38: Chapter 38

The kiss came out of nowhere, knocking the breath from my lungs, my body arching into him. Aiden tasted bitter, like the colour of rage and anger, surging forward, fierce and needy, as if to settle the pesky craving that's been plaguing him. I couldn't help but feel his lips, wet and soft, encasing me whole, as if to possess me with a single kiss.

Aiden grabbed me by the waist, gripped tightly and my hands, without permission, come to wrap tightly around his neck. My back was slammed against the nearest wall, my right thigh lifting and locking around his hip, our pelvis rubbing together. The heat of his groin made my abdomen clench, outline of that huge cock  making my eyes roll back. His huge hand lingered on my thigh, gripping it, pretty sure leaving marks while his other hand came up to wrap around the hollow of my throat.

In an attempt to lift me with just one hand, he almost harshly pressed me by the wall, my other leg automatically coming around him, and I could feel a bruise forming on my upper back.

When my mouth parted, he forced his tongue into my mouth. Our teeth clashed as he tried to delve into the roof of my mouth, hungrily licking as a man starved. His hand around my throat roughly forced my head to tilt as he kept his lips pressed firmly.

I tangled my fingers in the curly locks, tugging harshly at his roots. The Alpha let out a guttural sound that caused shivers down my spine. That didn't stop him from dragging his fingers and harshly grabbing at my breast, cupping them as he lightly thumbed the hardened nipple. I gasped into his mouth at that, arching my back, eyes fluttering shut at the sensation. The hand marking my back trailed down to the curve of my round bottom and gripped at it, kneading the flesh.

The moan that slipped out of my mouth could be described as borderline pornographic, as if my omega was in heat and needed to be satiated. Aiden pulled back with a wet snack, starting to trail kisses down my neck when I heard a sound. They were coming from the guest room, exactly where I left Liam's niece.

Shit!

"No! No, no, Alpha, stop!" I pushed at his chest, loosening my legs around him and immediately taking a step back. The look in his eyes was presented with utter darkness as he let a seething breath out.

I ran my tongue over the bottom lip, feeling his eyes on me as we watched the tiny footsteps inching towards us. My hand automatically smoothed over the messy hair, trying to adjust the robe that slipped down my shoulder. What was wrong with me? Why did I let him kiss me so easily? It still came as a shock that the Alpha initiated the kiss, grabbed me like he wanted me and desired me.

From the corner of my eyes I noticed Aiden staring back at me, disheveled, the sound of his heart thumping loudly around the four walls.

Shaking my head to get rid of those thoughts, I focused on the door jiggling and a second later Fauna stepping out. She came racing towards me, her eyes shifting towards the Alpha next to me and immediately wrapped her arms around my middle, burying her face and trying to scent me—such a cute pup. I cooed while bending down to scoop her in my arms, releasing pheromones to calm her distress. The tiny girl must be scared waking up all alone in an unknown room. In my defence, I thought she would be asleep for a long time.

"It's okay, bub" I whispered.

Aiden cleared his throat from my side, which made my skin prickle with goosebumps. I almost forgot that he was still in the room. The Alpha crossed his arms together, a brow arching in my direction when he saw Fauna scenting me.

Right. He didn't know that Liam dropped off his niece at our place till evening. In the back of my mind, I thought that the beta might have already informed him.

"Are you running a babysitting service I don't know about?"

My body trembled at the gravelly tone, so rough and tender that my fingers tightened around on their own accord. Why was I so affected by this Alpha? He didn't even treat me right most of the time, yet my attraction knew no bounds.

"No", I cleared my throat. "This is Fauna. She's Liams, niece. He asked me to watch her till they are back from the clinic."

As if on cue, Fauna snuggled closer to me, eyeing the Alpha with an acute interest but also nervous. Pups get that way around Alphas, the dominant of us all, especially with someone like Aiden, who's a Pack Alpha; it's inevitable.

He bobbed his head, craning his neck to take a peek at the pup, who was trying her best to hide her entire face in my throat. Honestly, I was suppressing laughter at this point at her cold breathing.

"She's had a long day", I clarified, patting Fauna's back when Aiden began to frown at her behaviour.

As much as I wanted to go into detail about the minor incident that took place in the afternoon, now didn't seem like an appropriate time. Exhaling slowly, I met his eyes, suddenly confused that he came back to the cabin so soon.

"Are you looking for something here?"

"Why?" Aiden huffed. "Do you want to get rid of me now?"

"No!" I sharply said, immediately biting my tongue, hyper-aware of a pup in my arms and his intense stare. "Alpha", I added softly before continuing. "You are back so soon....I thought you would have lunch with the pack members."

"You thought? Since when do you do that?"

I ground my teeth. What had gotten into him? A few seconds ago, he was kissing me senseless, and now he's trying to humiliate me in front of a pup, no less. Fury bubbled into the pit of my stomach, fingertips burning and clawing at my chest.

"I believe whatever it is, you can do it yourself." I breathed, trying not to look into those traitorous eyes that seemed to enchant me. "Please excuse me."

Before he had the chance to say something, I stormed off to the guest room, my strides long and fast. How could he say that? After the nights we spent together during the storm, I could feel something shift between us. Now we were back to square one. Maybe it was just in my head; I was the one imagining him to change overnight and attend to my needs.

So stupid! I cursed under my breath, plopping on the bed as Fauna jumped from my arms and settled down. She's a tiny pup at her age, still extremely brave and mischievous for her good.

"Rose", The pup crooned. "Are you mates?"

Her question broke me out of my trance, a flush settling on my cheeks. Twisting my lips, I nodded my head.  She peeked out of the room that gave a view of the living room before looking back at me.

"He's my Alpha", I answered instead of going into elaborate detail on how I had yet to know my mate. Not that it will change anything since Aiden mated me in front of his pack.

She scrunched her nose; her tiny arms crossed together. "I don't like him at all!"

"Fauna!" I hissed, shaking my head at her disapprovingly even though a small part of me triumphed at that. Take that, Alpha! "You cannot say that out loud. It hurts people. Besides, I'm sure you will change your opinion once you get to know him."

Someone cleared their throat from the doorway, almost making me freeze on the spot.
