Chapter 66: Chapter 66
Gwenn pov
“Alal, time is of the essence, I know that but you have to help these people, they are your people. Doing well will cement your reign, you know that.” Silana suggested as I watched as giant rocks fell from the top of the cave to cover the mouth of it.
I couldn’t help stopping in every town on our way, to help the people in the settlements with few of their problems. Almost every town had some issue or another. One had a well that had dried up and the villagers thirst was increasing, I helped with getting the well flowing again by channeling a river to it … I didn’t even know all the intricacies of what I did but I knew that I made the villagers life better.
This people problem was more on the side of the unnatural, one of those whom I think, I might have awakened. A beast comes out of this cave at night and eat the food crops of the villagers, no matter where they are hidden. The logical thing to do after searching the cave and not seeing anything inside is to shut the mouth of the cave and that was easy to do.
“Wait, what did you just say?” I asked, my mind coming back to Silana and her words which distinctly sounded like she I was more than me.”
“That you shouldn’t help everybody along the way, we have legions for this and the legion will do it if you are done with your journey and you return home to lay your complaints to commander Ruslan, he is very effective in taking care of things like this.” Silana stated.
“For a second there, I could have sworn you used the word reign…” I mumbled before I turned my attention to the people who were waving at me and Silana as we mounted our horses and took off once more, I didn’t know where Adela was but after our first couple of stops when she realized that she made other afraid, she started to stay away. I don’t see her much but she show herself, she somehow knew where we were going which was strange since I didn’t even talk about the map with her.
“You must be tired Gwenn, you need to get this down with so you can return home and rest with Arius.” Silana offered.
“He will be fine?” I asked Silana who looked at me with confusion on her face.
“Why wouldn’t he be fine?” She asked. “You just have to make sure that you succeed in your quest and he will be good as new in no time, not when we were coming in a saw a fine piece of wood which I know I can teach Adela to play fetch. I miss that pet, she is so amazing and her fur is so sleek.” Silana prattled on, continuing a conversation all by herself.
I sighed as I realized that she probably wouldn’t say anything more again, when she gets this way, I couldn’t get anything from her again and if I try to pry, she would get angry at me, spending over a week with just Silana as the other human keep me company was enough to make understand her, more than anybody else I would guess.
I just hope that as Silana said, Arius was truly fine, I hope they all were.

Sorens Pov
“Hey brother, so you are still looking like you, I thought that you would be numb from you constant watch over something that is not exciting.” Sorian said I as sat down beside him while ordering a drink.
It has been long since I went to a pub and as much as I wanted Sorian to be wrong the truth was that, he wasn’t. I was bored to tears, bored enough to think about sticking my sword in myself to see if it hurts because there is nothing better to do.
When Gwenn gave me the task of looking at her dear husband who doesn’t deserve her love, fidelity and feelings, I had thought that things will be more exciting, like the reason why she wanted his protection was because people would want to kill him, that there will be assassinator whom I had to be fighting off but instead, I have been nothing but a glorified baby sitter.
I have fed the man, cleaned him and talked to him and the highest life I have seen around him is when his siblings comes to visit, then, they get to talk about their day and so many things which they didn’t want to say to their selves and these are things which I am sure that they will not tell the king if he was awake.
Catia came to say how insecure she was, that was until she saw me in the corner and decided to tell her brother how much of a fool he was to love a woman who spread her legs for a lowly commander, her visits were always trying as I have to stop myself from imagining the intense pleasure I would get from killing her.
If I did as I wanted, it would mean that the king will be without a protector and maybe what Gwenn was scared of will happen to the king then.
“I miss those days when my brother mind was not occupied with a woman who can never be his.” Sorian tutted as my consciousness jerked back to where I was currently and I glared at him as his words registered.
“That was not funny.” I growled at him and he raised his eyebrow at me.
“It wasn’t meant to be funny, just the truth.” He returned and when I opened my mouth to argue with him, he added. “Have you or have you not think about Gwenn or anything related to her in the last five minutes when you have been quiet and when nothing I said was acknowledged by you.”
He was right, I was thinking about Gwenn.
But I wasn’t going to let him know that.
“Maybe I ignored you because you have a tendency to talk too much without stopping to think about what you are saying.” I quipped as Sorian eyes narrowed at me.
“Funny, very funny. Sorens, you have to let go of the queen.” Sorian tone was imploring, wanting me not to get angry but he knows better than to bring up Gwenn issue.
“Is that the reason you called me here. I will be angry if it is so you better make up another excuse why you told me you had to see me today before I get angry and I am almost there.” I responded.
Sorian sighed before talking. “Strange news have been going on around the palace.”
“Like?” I asked.
“Like Prince Kastav will soon have the king killed while he is defenseless, nobody knows the means yet but word is that, he is going crazy, talking to himself in his room. The rumors increased today and it won’t be long now.”
“Long before what?” I asked, dreading the reply that I was sure was coming.
“Long before he attacks, does he know that you are always with the king?” Sorian asked but I shook my head.
“No, he doesn’t know. He had never come to visit his brother once.” I stated.
“Then, maybe you can catch him unaware and have the council punish him or something.” Sorian suggested but I shook my head.
“He has to be caught in the act, if I accuse him without any base for accusation, I would be locked up and the king will be left defenseless.”
Remembering that night when the king died, I released a groan. “He killed the former Yama, his father.”
“What?” Sorian asked.
“I saw him with a sword, dripping blood, well not him completely but him in his shadow form. I didn’t think much on it and now, I cannot bring it up unless it is the king who is sleeping and will not wake up anytime soon or to the Queen who is not around.”
“Whatever you plan to do, know that I am behind you brother.” Sorian stated, He knows that I will chose to do something.
Just like I know that he will not like the idea which just formed in my head. It was risky but it was the only way for me to correct everything and keep the king safe.
“Good, because I am going to need help in sneaking the king out of the castle this night.”
