Chapter 43: Chapter 43
Arius Pov.
I was still reeling from Gwenn words and teary face when she left my office minutes ago when a Nisse ran in without knocking.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her and she pointed in the direction of the courtyard used for practicing, I turned back to look at the Nisse in confusion.
“Your queen is there and she was provoked by the council members and she started whipping them and she is glowing golden I think.” The Nisse said as my eyes widened as her words sank in. I rushed out with the Nisse footsteps sounding besides me and when I got to the courtyard, I saw a crowd watching the scene before them.
“Gwenn.” I called.
“Don’t.” She answered me. Her voice was not normal but it was strange from the usual we always used. That one was filled with other loud voices. Voices of past ancestors, Warriors that fought for Northshore, Hers rang high, including just one other woman, a woman whose steel could still be felt even after years of death, I wonder what woman liked when she was alive.
“They wanted to kill me Arius.” She added as my hackles went up. “I am just returning the favor.”
“You shouldn’t kill them, they are still useful. Keep them alive and under pledge to always protect you and be loyal to only you.” I offered as I begged the gods thinking that she should accept the offer.
“I will never trust them. Better I kill them now.” Gwenn hand went back as the unnatural light around her whip went even more unnatural.
“Imagine the children you want to leave fatherless.” I said and just as I expected, her hands froze. That was another reason why I wanted just her. She cared for children, her first thought was to always make life easier for the innocents, no matter how much she would rather do the opposite and it didn’t matter if the innocents were from another empire entirely. Her heart of gold was something which I could see.
“Fatherless?” She asked.
“Small children.” I responded and when her hand dropped I added in a soft tone. “I know they annoy you but let go of the hurt, you will get them back for what they tried to do but you know that violence is never the answer.”
When the glow around her faded. I went to her and hugged her while she gathered her thoughts and remembered who she was. Something she had almost forgotten just now in that fit of rage. I knew this for certain because of the way she clutched to me like I was the center of her storm. The only calm place.

“Wait a second, Faye did what?” I thundered while Gwenn was repeating what had happened. We were back in my office and this time she chose to sit down. She was still shaking and I didn’t know if it was because of the rage which was simmering in her or if it was because she was tired. Although she didn’t do anything that could not be healed quickly. To hit them over and over again causing deep pain with minor movements was still energy spending and she wasn’t herself too. Holding on to the strange power sometimes was just too much.
“Nothing worth mentioning again.” She mumbled but I was angry.
If Gwenn had been the one who thought she owned me, I would be furious as I am not a property but at least Gwenn would have a legitimate reason. She was married to me. All Faye had was the fact that she spent a few months in my bed. Nothing else and then again, most of the times. It was in her room.
“Gwenn, I don’t share the same belief with her.” I started only for Gwenn to smile at me.
“Of course, I know that you don’t share the same belief with her, you act like a cold ass sometimes but you are not as deranged as she is.” Gwenn answered before smiling at me. “If there is anybody who own anybody, I would be the one owning you because of all the stress and pain you put me through.” She added before she sat up.
“Own me then.” I tell her, leaning into her while staring into her eyes. She kept her gaze on mine before lowering her eyes.
“Sorry, I don’t want to.” She replied while leaning back into her chair to create some space between us. “To cut the long story short, they attacked me when I wanted to use my whip of Faye for the disrespect and they were trying to kill me. I snapped and decided to torture and kill them, you stepped in before the killing part and then stopped me, we came here for me to explain the whole story to you since you refused to listen to Faye version which she was shouting, Good choice on your part.”
“They went too far this time. This is the second time they are attacking you right?” I asked Gwenn and when she gave a tentative nod like she was uncertain of my action, I stood up and went to my door, there was always someone waiting on the other side to see if I would need anything. “Call for an emergency council meeting at once.” I ordered as the Mareikura who was there bowed her head and left quickly.
“What is going on?” Gwenn asked me.
“Council meeting, someone will be here to take you to the place.” I replied her and her brows went down in confusion.
“What about you then?”
“I am going to make a stop to see Faye and then we can start the council meeting.”
I watched as her eyes turned indifferent.
“Of course.” She answered with.
“Gwenn. She means nothing to me.” I tell Gwenn who nodded, there was only one thing which her nod will signify, that she heard me even when she didn’t just for me to leave her alone.
“Go and meet the mother of your child and calm her frazzled nerves. She is going to need it.” Gwenn dismissed me as she turned her face to the side.
“I am not going to do that.” I protested but she didn’t make a move like she never herd me at all. I sighed as I stood up.
There was nothing I could do about Gwenn right now but there was a lot I could do about the way she was treated, I thought that my people who have warmed up to her or let her prove herself but no, they were still filled with prejudice and I was done condoning it. They should act that age and they will start doing that today.
It was time I made this place a home for Gwenn.
