Chapter 32: Chapter 32

Arius

Having dreams of Themis turning into a giant cat and eating me for breaking the marriage bargain has been giving me sleepless nights for days since I heard that my dearest wife has made friends with a cat of that kind.

Hearing and seeing are two different things and seeing the cat behind my wife, acting like my wife would protect her from all was frightening, especially since Gwenn was already bonded with this cat. I don’t think there was another reason why she would kill a warrior because of her pet.

“Gwenn.” I greeted with a smile. “You haven’t been home for an hour and we are already without a warrior.” I said as I folded my hand across my chest.

“Arius, I have been gone for only two weeks but it seems like everybody already forgot my temper when those I love are threatened.” She responded mimicking my posture.

Arius eyes went to Sorens who stood up and came closer to me. “I see you still have him beside you, gained any extra lovers yet.” I asked and this time, Sorens hand went to his sword while the cat hissed at me, I took an unconscious step back but other than that, I didn’t retreat anymore.

“No. Gained any extra child or concubine while I was gone?” She asked and I couldn’t help the pain I felt at her statement of the guilt too.

My child should be born of her and not of a lady who would never have been chosen for anything other than a fine mistress for someone who was of lower status than me. She was too greedy, wanting to attain things that were not meant to be her. It was my fault for putting her within reach for the queen of the throne and now, it is coming back to bite me in the back.

“Gwenn.” I called.

“I am back home now, my king. That is all that matters nothing else. If you would not need me, I will be in my room making sure that Adela is well settled. She has been running for hours and I want her to rest a lot.

“She has more energy than she lets you know.” Sorens grumbled but Gwenn waved away his words. Well, it seems like my wife liked her pet more than she liked Sorens and that just showed me how close, she and her pet was.

“Wait.” I said as I realized what her statement meant. “You mean that Adela will follow you to your room?” I asked and Gwenn nodded like she didn’t understand why I was asking a question like that.

“And everywhere I go.” She added.

“I will not allow that thing to near my children.” I said, referring to the one she would give birth to. There was no way, I would allow that cat that looked like it can swallow a baby whole into its mouth to be near my babies. She would have to give her pet up while she grows rounder with our child.

Her eyes went cold. “Then it is best if you keep Faye from everywhere I am in because I will not be putting Adela in a cage. If anybody have a problem, try to take her out and if you are still alive by the time she is done, then I will kill you myself.” She added.

“That is not an option.” I said, reasoning everything and in return to my words, she smiled.

“Exactly, I need to retire now, any questions you can ask Sorens or ask later.” She added as she moved towards us with Adela, her pet following her steps and not missing a beat.

We all joined each other to give the queen and her pet space to pass.

“Clean this mess.” I said to other warriors as I turned to leave. I needed to watch my queen and her pet before I will give an edict, or those were the words I used to deceive myself and others if they ask because, I couldn’t say that I miss my queen, something was stopping me from groveling and I had a feeling that time was ticking, becoming harder by the day. That I need her by my side.”

I knew the exact location to her new room and the places she had passed because of the shocked Nisses that were pale as they hanged close to the wall like they wanted to plaster their selves into the Walls.

I got to her room, just as I saw my sister Silana skipped into the room. With my heart in my throat, I hurried after her and came to the open door only for my jaw to drop in surprise, my sister was stroking Adela’s head like she was close friends with the beast who was purring loudly.

Almost too loudly for me to miss my sister next words. “Great, you got what you went for. Adela, make sure that you protect your mistress. Scarier things are on the way.” Silana said as Adela eyes met mine and she flattened her ears on her head before hissing at me. I Jumped by the door but Gwenn just sent me a dismissive glance while my sister laughed as she placed her hand beside Adela’s face and shook her head.

“Naughty girl.” Silana giggled. “That is just my brother, he might be deceiving himself that he hates your mistress now but he couldn’t be much further from the truth.” Silana added.

When Adela looked at Silana, she nodded like She and Adela was communicating. “Yes. He would soon retrace his steps although it might be too late then and he is important so you cannot take a bite out of him.”

Adela curled herself close to Gwenn and closed her eyes while Silana watched me.

“I came to check up on you two but it seems like you are okay?” I lied when she looked at me in inquiry of why I was there.

Gwenn snorted. “We will be more than okay when you leave.”

I nodded as I left the room. I deserve that. Silana said that I would retrace my steps, I wonder what she means by that but I do know that it is already seeming like it is too late already.

I needed to go and rest before dinner because I had a feeling that, it might get bloody today.
