Chapter 25: Chapter 25
Gwenn
“My queen, are you okay?” Sorens asked as he laid me on my bed.
“I will be fine, when is the afternoon meal?” I asked him and Sorens just looked at me confused before his eyes widened when he realized that I plan on going.
“Tell me that you are not considering doing that…” He started but I just stared at him.
“You are not fine, you know that you are not. Why will you punish yourself with this?” Sorens said as he paced my room. “You don’t need to be close to those people right now Gwenn, in case you were not aware of what they wanted to do, they wanted to kill you. I felt it in the air and you must have felt it too. Why on earth would you still want to be in their presence now?” He asked as I smiled.
“Because it is my duty as queen, we have guests and I need to show my face. I will not let them spin outrageous stories about me to my first group who wants to see the foreign queen. I will do my job as their queen.” I answered as Sorens face went slack.
It was a while before he said anything. “I respect your wish as my commander but as your friend, I don’t think you should be close to them. I think it would be better you leave the Palace, you don’t have any friend here.” He said but I shook my head.
I was done running away.
“I do have a friend in case you have forgotten, My friend is standing in front of me and my other friend makes people think that she is crazy but she is very sane.” I smiled at Sorens as I thought about sitting up and how to minimize the pain I was feeling all over my body so that I can find something to wear and still end up looking amazing there.
Just as the thought went through my mind, someone knocked on the door of my room.
“I wonder who is there.” I said as I shrugged when Sorens looked at me with an eyebrow raised in inquiry.
I already have an inkling so I was not surprised when Sorens opened the door to Silana wearing a smile and a pretty gown of her own.
“Just in time, are you done convincing the grouch to let you go for lunch?” She asked jerking her head at Sorens direction when saying grouch.
“Yes, he has.” I replied as she nodded.
“Great, I have picked out the clothes for a while now.” She answered as she went to where my clothes were. Sorens lifted his eyes to mine.
“How did she know that I would not agree?” Sorens asked.
“Beats me if I know.” I replied just as Silana dropped a gown by me.
“Go on, shoo, get dressed too, She will be needing you for support so you will be by her side at all times today.” Silana said as she drove Sorens out of my room, I watched it with a strange smile, the pain was still there but at least I wasn’t completely alone, I was with a friend who reminded me of Themis and home.
****************
I entered the Hall where lunch was taken to see that it has been transformed into something more spectacular than usual, I was not surprised, I was used to seeing this with Orel. Any time that he did have to do anything like welcome guest or the likes, his house remains cold and dark but the minute he gets a wind of guests coming, the place springs to life.
And I was also used to being stared at like I was the foe among people who should be referred to as mine. Just the same way I was been looked at now.
“If you don’t stop glaring at my wife, I will have you removed from the table since you want to act like a child, you will be kept where children are.” Arius voice whipped out and his sisters and Faye quickly obeyed while the rest followed suit.
“But brother, can’t you see Faye leg?” Vala asked. “It’s all swollen, I think she should be punished.”
“Try and do the punishment Vala.” I replied before Arius could. “I dare you.”
“When you forget your place you will be whipped.” Arius said to Faye. “You might be a concubine but she is still queen, don’t forget your place and if anything bad is said about her again, even if she is not there. I will do the whipping and this goes to if my sisters choose to see if it applies to them too.” Arius said and all his words seem to do was make the imps from hell he called sisters to glare at me like I was the fault of all their worries and the reason why their mouth ran.
They will just hate me more because of their brother’s anger, he thought that he was doing me a favor but he wasn’t.
“Please stop.” I said to Arius who looked shocked that I was addressing him. “You are not making anything better. All you succeeded in doing is making them hate me and they don’t need more ammunition than they already have.”
I smiled at the strange faces on the table. “I don’t know you people but welcome. I apologized for not being present this morning but one of us, needed to go and check what caused that strange phenomenon yesterday and so I volunteered.” I smiled at the people who smiled back.
“We are from a settlement not so far from here, our people deal in creation of different things needed to make life easier. We are one of the largest settlements in Northshore and we have many interesting things which would interest you.” He added as I smiled and lent my ears to Sorens who whispered.
“Where they come from if in relation to Dar, is your capital and these men are nobles there. Their settlement is so big that it cannot be hidden, it is about a day from here.” Sorens explained as I nodded.
“And look, there they go, whispering and plotting.” Catia said.
“You know dear sister. If you are not so snarky and spiteful, he would have liked you back instead you were nothing but a blight and he prefers to be alone than to be with you.” Silana answered before anybody could.
Catia exploded. “I was the best thing that ever happened to him.”
“No, you were the worst thing that has ever happened to anybody including your siblings and parents.” Silana paused and then added as a second thought. “Except Kastav though, you are worse than the worst thing ever, you are a poison to him.”
Catia face looked so red that I feared she was going to blow up, I was not a fan of her but I actually felt sorry for her as she looked around the room. Her eyes settled on her brother who sat a little bit far from her. “Are you just going to let her talk me like that?” She asked Arius who raised his eyebrow at her in confusion.
“You call her crazy all the time, you should not be angry with her words or expect that she will be punished for name calling when you are never punished for it.” Arius answered as Catia opened her mouth and closed it multiple times kin shock.
”Still, we would want to know what he whispered into your ear.” Kastav said, picking up from where Catia stopped.
“You don’t have that right.” I replied him.
“In front of everybody, you are displayi9ng… another brother wanted to pick up but I glared at them as I slammed my hand on the table.
“None of you have that right because at this table is sitting your brother mistress who is pregnant with his child, you don’t get to make me feel bad while there is a bigger hypocrite at the table. This will be the last time which someone ask me something which is not their business. Am I understood?” I glared at each of them in turn and they dropped their heads, realizing that they truly don’t have that right, not when Faye was here and part of the family. If I wanted, Sorens was part of the family too.
“I was explaining to the queen, in terms of where they come from with terms she is familiar with since I have seen how her country was and I know how Northshore is.” Sorens answered.
I glared at Sorens but he glanced at the visitors and continued. “The Queen would be interested to know if there is any place for storing histories where you are from.”
“Of course there is, we have multiple.” Another one said quickly like he was eager to please.
I smiled at him. “I would be interested in following you people when you return back to the Capital, Sorens you will get our things ready. Can you people stay until morning?” I asked and when Sorens nodded and stood up. I looked at Arius.
“We will talk later tonight.” He answered as my blood ran cold.
He planned on still making me pregnant with his child.
