Chapter 23: Chapter 23
Gwenn
“My Queen, are you sure you should be here?” Sorens asked for the umpteenth time and this time, I actually felt a twinge of annoyance.
“If you are feeling scared Sorens, you can turn back. You know that I would not stop you. I would not even mention it that my second in command is scared of a little light beam.” I teased Sorens who rolled his eyes at my words before he started to refute my claims.
“I am not scared of where we are going to, I am concerned besides, I am sure that different people from parts of the empire will be coming, some to discuss about the weird light which could have been seen far and wide, others will come to congratulate the king and queen since it has not been long you came and if not that one, they want to see you so that they can fuel the gossips by saying that they have seen the foreigner Queen and in all these scenarios it would be wise if you were with the king when they come.”
“They will soon be aware of the king’s heir anyway, they would understand my reasons for not being there. And not any of them with a heart will blame me for that.” I answered as Sorens nodded his head even though he didn’t want to.
“Now if you are done trying to make me feel guilt for my choice of checking out why the beam struck from the meadows then maybe you can get your horse to move faster.” I suggested and Sorens increased his pace and I followed suit, we got to the meadows only to see that the place now had a beauty which was not there before. The leaves were still green, the water was still flowing, moss was still on the floor but that was where the similarities ended.
Everything was more vibrant, from the color of the trees, trees that looked like they were glowing to the crystal clear water. Everything looked better. Where this place was a meadows before, it is now a paradise, an escape that looked like it was pulled right out of the imagination of somebody.
“There is something different about this place, something which I can’t wrap my head around.” Sorens said beside me as I jerked out of my thoughts and looked at Soren who had a sword in his hand like there was a threat around.
“You are sensing something?” I asked him.
“That is the thing, my senses is dead silent, they are never that way.” Sorens continued to look around but I dismissed his vigilance and sat on the floor.
“What did you tell Arius about my fainting when I came into Northshore?” I asked Sorens who froze and looked at me weirdly.
“Nothing, if you wanted to tell him, you would have. You were tired and that was the truth.” Sorens answered as I looked at him with a frown.
“You didn’t tell him about the flame that burst out of me?” I asked Sorens confused.
Sorens laughed. “My queen is very funny. Nothing burst out of you, you collapsed on your horse when you crossed the boundary, nothing else.”
“You didn’t see anything?” I asked once more confused, I swore a saw a lot of things when I crossed the boundary, things that originated from me.
“Was there anything I should have seen?” Soren asked as he took a seat beside me on the ground. “Gwenn, I am more than your subordinate, you brought this up because something is bothering you so you wanted to share, share it.”
I looked at Sorens to realize he was right, if I had any friend in the new world, it was him. He always had my back and I could count on him.
“Since the ritual rites or ceremony your people refer to it, things has been weird for me and I am not talking about little weirdness. I am referring to something talking to me, singing to me and coming out of me. The most recent one was yesterday, I felt the urge to leave here and so we left only for that blast to come from here, who knows what would have happened to us if we had stayed behind?”
I shivered as Sorens wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
“What came out of you?” He asked, he was taking this a lot easier than I thought he would, which made me wonder if this was a normal thing here.
“A woman, with everything about her golden like she was made out of it.” I shrugged.
“The golden queen sits on a throne, most powerful among the ancients, ruler of the world which was forgotten, waiting for her reincarnate, she will chose only who is worthy.” Sorens stated as I frown at him.
“What did you say about the forgotten world? Do you know more about that part?” I asked him but he shook his head.
“The forgotten world was when Northshore became Northshore, it was the last legacy before Northshore as we know it was built. The forgotten world is a myth, long forgotten.”
“I need to know more about this world Sorens.” I asked him, my head already growing with possibilities.
This exists, that means what this lady was trying to warn me of exists, for the forgotten world to rise. What does it mean?
Sorens already started shaking his head. “My queen, you don’t understand. The forgotten world is the only thing we can remember from that time, every other thing has been mixed with fantasy and falseness. It is just a myth that has been reformed and retold too many times. Not a lot remained of the real story. Some people say in the forgotten world, magic existed, Trees could talk. Nature could commune with humans and a plague which made fathers to kill mothers and sons to kill fathers existed but we don’t know anything about it.”
“So the forgotten world is just that? Forgotten?” I asked. “Where did you hear that phrase from?”
“It’s one of the phrases which fathers tell their sons as they grow older, a bunch of random things which the son is supposed to remember and tell their own sons, like I said most of them has been forgotten.” Sorens replied as I sighed.
“Let’s go ask your father and if possible the person who keeps record in the Northshore.”
“Why are you so interested in this?” I asked and he shrugged.
“Because I believe the golden queen reincarnate is back and the forgotten world has risen and many bad things will come with this, I need to be prepared.” I answered Sorens as I stood up.
“And why do you need to be prepared?” Sorens asked as he pushed himself to a standing position.
“Because I believe that I am also the forbidden queen reincarnate.” I answered him just as I climbed my horse and turned it around and left.
The Meadow shimmered behind me, unknown to me as a dark figure stepped out of a tree and stare at me and Sorens as we left.
Malevolent shadows were not in my mind then but I wished it was, maybe then I would have been able to stop someone close to me from dying prematurely.
