Chapter 17: Chapter 17

Gwenn

I was like a child who has not seen her father in a while, the way I ran to the shelves holding whips and swords, I kept sampling, thanking Sorens a mile a minute not caring who saw me acting so undignified. I knew that a queen was not supposed to act this way but I couldn’t help myself. I get to have weapons once more, this time Northshore weapons that are very sharp and easy to maneuver.

Dar was an empire that do not slack off when it comes to weapons of war and their soldiers but Northshore takes their army a lot more serious, they are enclosed from the outside world and barely face any threat. I really don’t understand why they go through all these.

Unless they have something to hide.

I shook my head to banish that thought, these are my people now, their secrets and weaknesses are mine and I am supposed to do everything possible to protect it.

“What’s wrong?” Sorens laid a hand on my arm, he must have seen me shake my head.

“Nothing worth mentioning.” I answered and when he just continued to look at me, I smiled. “Really it is nothing, I am fine.”

“Still you should tell me.” He argued.

“I am in front of my favorite weapon of choice, my husband annoyed me this morning, what do you think crossed my mind?” I asked him raising my eyebrow and Sorens shook his head with a smile and although he removed his hand from mine at the mention of husband, he didn’t step back and allow my mention of Arius to make the air strange between us.

I have to admit that he is very strange, to be this close to another man’s wife in public, he must have no fear in him.

“Don’t kill our king for us, he might be a little rough around the edges but he is a much better choice compare to his brother.” Sorens reply and before I could pump him on information, another voice boomed.

“I find out my brother is back and hanging around the queen from Isolde, how can you do this to me, you know that I don’t like that woman.”

I turned to look at the person talking only for my jaw to drop open in shock, I looked at my side to see that Sorens was still there, this new person was exactly like Sorens, down to the broken nose.

“Since you know she is the queen, any chance of you not embarrassing me in front of her?” Soren winced just as his look alike reached him and put him in a headlock.

I rolled my eyes as I gave them space for their rough greeting, boys will always be boys.

“I heard she is the commander of your legion, you are supposed to be that currently, not her.” The lookalike, I think said.

“Well, I have no problem being her second in command, I like being under her.”

“I am sure you do, just like you like being on top too.” The ass of a lookalike replied, ribbing Sorens and laughing until Soren jammed an elbow in his gut.

“This is the Queen you are talking about, someone with a husband. Be careful of your words and besides, you need to watch the way you speak to your fellow commander.” Sorens cautioned his brother before looking at me with a sheepish smile and eyes pleading.

“The person who looks like me and was completely inappropriate is my twin brother Sorian. He is one of the sixteen commanders just like you are.”

I didn’t say anything, just continued to stare at the two of them.

“The way, which you can tell the difference between us is when he opens his mouth to talk, other than that, we are the same.” Soren added, fidgeting a little.

“Does she not talk?” Sorian asked his brother in a low tone, a tone I could clearly still hear.

“You are right Sorens, he really does not know how to control his words.” I replied, looking at Sorian and not taking my eyes off him.

“I am sorry?” He asked as if he was unsure of what to say.

“Not yet accepted.” I replied. “How did you know where to see your brother?”

“He is always here or fighting and training somewhere or with a woman or two. Since he was seen with the Queen, I knew he couldn’t be fighting just yet. The queen would need a weapon and so they would be here.”

“I really don’t understand how your brain works at time, you can deduce things and get it but you cannot learn how to control your mouth?”

“It is a gift brother, a great gift.” Sorian replied. “I am hungry, tell me, your majesty, have you gotten a taste of Northshore brew yet. I am sure that since you came, you have been busy being so responsible, have you tried being irresponsible yet?”

“Hmmm No?” I answered confused.

“Then I am the prefect guide for you.” Sorian smiled as he reached for my hand and dragged me out with him. “Sorens, get her weapons and follow us, we are at the pub. The one with the brawls and unique charm around it.”

“Sorian…” Sorens groans.

“She is a commander, not a doll, she can handle herself.” Sorian said as he dragged me out of the store which from outside still looks like a normal house.

“How do you know which is a house or a store?” I asked and he looked at me with a smile.

“When you have been around for so long, you get to know things which you never wanted to know. Northerners are aware of which is which. Eventually, you will be too. For example, that little lady there, is old enough to be my mother but she likes having sex and judging from the way she is looking at that warrior, he would be her next victim.” Sorian said as a disgusted look entered my face.

“Remind me never to ask you any question again.” I said and just then a bumped into a girl carrying some clothes.

“Oh, I am sorry.” I apologized as I knelt down to help her pick them up.

“Thank you my queen.” The girl replied with a tiny voice and then her head snapped to look at my face and her eyes frown and her expression turned fierce. “Queen?” She growled.

Her voice too had deepen and it echoed, as if it was a combination of others, not exactly how my voice is when I command obedience from my soldiers but a very close second.

“You are in danger. Beware, this is only the beginning.” She snarled.

Her face came back to normal and she clasp a hand to her mouth as tears filled her eyes and she took her basket and rushed off.

I looked at Sorian to explain but he was just staring at the direction which she went.

“Want to explain that to me Sorian?” I asked.

Sorian looked at me with a frown. “That’s the thing, I can’t. She was not possessed but she clearly was not herself, she sounded like a seer but that cannot be true, it’s just a myth. That is clearly something which I cannot explain.”
