Chapter 27: Chapter 27

VICTORIA'S POV....

"Mummy I'm here. Good afternoon, please where is he?" I panicked all the way from my apartment to this place.

Which is in fact the hospital.

Mum explained more to me that he was in the hospital.

For Christ sake why was he in the hospital?

What did he do to land here, he's supposed to treat patients here not become one of them.

"He's in there. The doctors are attending to him." She said but I headed towards the ward room instead.

"They'll not let you in." She pulled me back to her.

"Kilo sèlè?" (What happened?) I asked.

"He went out with his car and got hit by a truck. You need to worry more about his mother. She's taking it on herself." My mum said pointing towards a closed door across the hospital hallway.

I headed to the door and slowly opened it. The creaking sound of the door was accompanied with sobbing.

"Mummy." I called Ola's mum who was sitting on the floor, crying like someone died.

I reject bad thoughts.

"Victoria, it's my fault ooo." She cried out.

"No, no, no." I rushed to her for a comforting hug.

"Mummy it's not your fault. Please, he's going to be fine, Okay, the doctors are attending to him." I tried to console.

"It's my fault. He had been cooked up in his room for up to a week, feeling moody, when I asked he said the both of you had an argument and he wasn't going out. So yesterday, I forced him to go out, at least grab some fresh air. An hour later.....I got the news that my son was involved in an accident." She cried out again.

Wait, so all this....was my fault?

"M-mummy, it's okay. Please, stop crying, it's not good for your health, don't give yourself high blood pressure. Ola would be fine. He's strong, he'll fight it okay. Mummy please just get up from the floor." I tried pulling her up but her weight was more than mine.

"Mrs Kayode, your son is conscious now, you all can go see him." A doctor walked in to announce and Ola's mum jerked up abruptly and raced for the door.

God she's fast.

I watched her walk into the wardroom. And the need to go in left me. I can't go inside there. My conscience would kill me. He's laying on a hospital bed because of me. Guilt is already tormenting my life.

I heard conversations go on inside the room and I heard his voice. Ola's voice.

It was weak and tired.

"Where's Temmy." I heard the same voice say and I swear my heart stopped for a moment. Then started beating. Faster than I ever imagined.

"You know he's been asking that question throughout the operation." I jerked back to reality.

I turned to look at the female that just spoke. She was about my age, long natural curls for hair. And a gentle face.

She must be a student here. Like Ola is.

"H-he has?" I croaked and she nodded.

"Are you the one...the Temmy?" She stammered and I nodded.

"Then why aren't you in there. Aren't you his girlfriend? He needs you." She insisted and I fought back my tears.

"I'm not his girlfriend....well not anymore." I stammered.

"But still go in...I would love to stay and insist that you go in but I have something to attend to." She said nicely before leaving.

Oh I'm not going in. I'm just gonna stay here till he recovers.

"Pelumi kilo selè?" I turned to the sound of my mum's voice asking me what happened.

"Mummy, mii le wo bè." (Mummy I cant go there) I sighed and she nodded.

"Why?"

"I feel guilty. He's in this condition because of me."

"I heard you two had an argument what was it about?" She asked me.

"He-I....Ola and I used to.....date...." I started but trailed off, wanting to hear her reply as a Nigerian woman.

"I know. So what happened?" She said.

"We...Wait, you knew?" I asked and she gave a small laugh.

"I'm your mum. Because I never said anything doesn't mean I don't know what's going on." She shrugged.

Oh.

"Getting to the university, I...have a boyfriend, Ayomide. Who turned out to be Ola's cousin. Now it's hurting Ola that we're together. He wanted me to end what was between Ayo and I, but then....I told him that I loved Ayo. And that's when all these happened." I explained to my mum.

I was already expecting her usual slaps and shout about me not telling her sooner, but her words shocked me.

"Does Ayo feel the same way?" She asked

"I-I believe so." I shrugged and she nodded.

"Well, all I can say is, follow your heart. Since you love Ayo, then you have every right to be with him." She smiled.

Did my mum just give me a relationship advice?

Who are you and what have you done with my mum?

"Thanks mum."

"But I'm still upset. I'm your mother. Why didn't you tell me all this since." She crossed her arms.

"I'm sorry ma." I apologized

"Don't keep me out again." She warmed and I nodded.

After our little conversation, Ola's family walked out of the room to meet me and my mum.

"He wants to see you." His mum gave a tight smile.

Wait, me?!

"Um..."

"Go." My mum pushed me towards the door.

Okay. God if I die out of guilt please forgive all my sins and allow me make heaven.

"Hello." I whispered when I walked in.

I felt this huge pain in my chest when I saw the condition he was in. Laying helplessly on the bed, needles pierced through his skin, and a clip on his finger and the heart rate monitor was the only hope I had that he was still alive.

"T-Temmy." Tears flowed out of my eyes when I heard his voice.

"I'm sorry." I cried and he chuckled lowly.

"It's not your fault. I was driving recklessly, I got hit....how is it your fault?"

"You don't understand..."

"I understand. You don't need to be sorry. Shebi I've warned you not to cry before?" (Didn't I warn you not to cry?) Ola raised his free hand and rubbed off the tears on my cheek.

"I'm sorry."

"Say it one more time and I'll get upset." He said and I chuckled.

"I'm gonna be fine okay. I'll get discharged soon. I only lost blood and they found a match for me." He reassured and I nodded.

"Ola, I brought your food." We both turned to face the person that just walked in.

Hey, it's that student doctor I saw earlier.

"Hey." I greeted and she smiled.

"I didn't really get your name before...."

"I'm Emmanuella. You can call me Ella, nice meeting you." She kept the food flask on a table near by.

"I'm...."

"Victoria. I know." She interrupted

"Y-you do?" I asked

"Ola talks about you a lot." She said and I nodded.

"So you two know each other?" I smiled.

"Yeah, Ella is a very good friend of mine." Ola said as Ella helped him seat up.

"I brought in food. And this time you're gonna eat it." She said sternly as she opened the food flask.

"I can feed myself." He said

"No, Victoria will." She passes the flask to me.

"No, you brought the meal, you feed him."

"But I insist." She said

"Insist more." I told her.

"Guys, I'm not a child. I can take care of myself." Ola frowned

"Don't talk."

"Stay out of it."

Ella and I chorused at once.

"Sorry." He mumbled already backing out.

"Ella. You're the one in charge here. So you'll attend to the patient."

"Guys I don't like this." Ola pouted and we turned to give him a stern look. Making him back off again.

"Fine, I'll feed him." She smiled and brought out a spoon.

"I'm not gonna let you feed me." He insisted.

"One?...." Ella glared and he opened his mouth for the food to come in.

Wow,

Is it only me seeing this thing? This connection between them. Like they're made for each other.

Oh I'm so gonna match them both.

"I'm coming...." I got up to leave but Ola caught my hand instantly and I saw Ella's face fall.

Oh my God, She does like him. Yes!

"Stay. Please." He pleaded and I nodded, removing my hand from his grip.

I watched in silence as she fed him the food.

They'll make a perfect couple I swear.

Just need to find a way to join them together.

..............

"I'll be going now. But I'll come back maybe in an hour." Ella said and we both nodded as we watched her leave.

I turned to look at Ola, with excitement in my eyes.

"What?" He asked.

"She likes you." I told him.

"I know. She told me."

"So what did you do about it?" I asked and he shrugged.

"Nothing."

"What?!" I shouted.

"Look she's my friend."

"You like her." I said and he groaned.

"Temmy." He said.

"If you didn't you wouldn't let her feed you."

"I did so because you two looked like you were gonna kill me in any moment." He shouted.

"Just give her a chance."

"I don't know." He lowered his voice.

"She seems nice, I know you'll like her." I poked his chest and he rolled her eyes.

"All I want now is to leave this bed and start my normal life." He said.

"Just consider it."

"You're doing this Cos you want me to get over you right."

"Of course not." I shrugged.

"You don't have to lie to me." He said.

"Look, Ella likes you. I just want you to be happy."

"You think being with her makes me happy?"

"You were so relaxed."

"Because you were here."

"Stop denying the fact you feel something for her. Tell me na. Even if it's as tiny as a mustard seed." I said with a pouting face.

"I do. But just a little."

"Then we'll have to pour kerosene in the fire to make it burn more." I smiled and he rolled his eyes.

"Just don't do anything stupid." He said

"When have I done something stupid?" I asked and he raised his brows at me.

"Do you want me to start listing them? Remember that day that you jumped from the decking of that uncompleted building because of a stupid dare and you broke your arm. And that time that you got into a fight with a boy and lost one tooth...."

"Okay, that wasn't stupid, I was defending myself." I supported myself

"Still stupid...now you're trying to find a way for me to get together with a girl you barely even know." He said and I rolled my eyes.

"Stop being a baby and heal so you can get yourself a girlfriend." I punched his arm and he winced.

"Which girlfriend?"

I froze at the sound of a male's voice.

"Ayo." I turned abruptly to face Ayo who had a death glare on his.

Shit.
