Chapter 24: Chapter 24
VICTORIA'S POV.....
I've not gotten home since after the...fight. And it's getting late for me to stay outside.
So I decided to just...face my fears.
Even when there's a probability that they'll pour hot ororo (groundnut oil) on my head when I open the door.
In conclusion...I'm scared to death of the twins.
So, since I've gathered enough courage, I'm standing in front of my house door, even when Ayo was willing to share his bed for the night, I still come home.
How brave. Not.
I twist the door knob and shut my eyes, waiting for the worst to happen.
1...2...3...4.....
Nothin happened.
Only the sound of laughter erupting from the sitting room.
Even if they're laughing, isn't my presence suppose to stop it?
"Hey, V. Come join us. We're watching Kenny black oxymoron." Debby smirked towards my direction.
It's a trap! Brace for impact.
Hey world, if I die tonight, tell my parents I love them. Even when we never agree to anything, I also love my siblings. Ifeoluwa and Kolade......
"Um guys..."
"Victoria, I know what you're about to say. But it's okay. I get it, you were only trying to be good. So let's not bring bad mood in and let's watch oxymoron." Debby shrugged, drinking from her can of maltina.
I looked at Nessa and she gave a reassuring smile.
Note: it's not helping the matter.
Wait. First it's Tunde and Ayo making up, now it's Debby....acting nice to me?
Oh Lord help me out.
"My name is Harry, for the girls, you know, you can call me bubu. Bubu Hari."
Wait Kenny black is playing the role of Buhari (recent president of naija)
That's funny.
"So are you going to join us or you want to go to your room?" Debby asked with raised brows.
"I'll join you guys." I hopped on the chair.
And it was like nothing happened three hours ago.
But I'm still careful sha ooo.
*******
Knock knock.....
"What?"
"It's me."
"I want to sleep. Tomorrow okay."
With the way she sounds you'll know she's wide awake.
"Knock knock." I repeated the knock on Debby's door and I heard her groan, followed by shuffling of clothes.
A few seconds later, she's standing in front of me with raw boredom in her swollen eyes.
Swollen?
She was crying.
"C-can I come in?" I croaked.
She hesitated for a while but finally nods, making way for me to enter her room.
It was 10:26pm and I couldn't get a shut eye. Knowing I hurt my friend is enough to keep me awake.
"What is it?" She shut her door and I found comfort on her bed.
"We need to talk." I said
"I thought we understood. There is nothing to talk about." She wrapped her arms around her chest.
"Of course there is. I did something stupid."
"It's okay. Nessa and I talked and she explained to me why I shouldn't get mad at you. It's not your fault, I should have explained everything to you. You're my best friend. So it's okay."
"It's not okay."
"It is." She insisted
"If it's okay then why are you crying?" I frowned
"I'm not."
"Your eyes are swollen." I glared at her and she sighed.
"What do you want to talk about?" She gave in.
Wait, what did I even want to talk about again? Now she wants to talk and I don't even know what to say.
"You see, there is nothing to talk about." She threw her arms in the air.
"How about we talk about him." I suggested and her countenance changed.
"Who?"
"Stop acting like you don't know. I mean Tunde." I said and she pouted.
"I don't want to."
"A wise person once said to me, the best way to get over something, is to talk about it." I smiled and she mirrored the motion.
"I was the wise person, fyi. And talking about him makes me sad." She took slow steps towards me before sitting down beside me on the bed.
"You know I had to break up with my childhood friend who I thought I was gonna marry, so I could be with a guy I met in a bus. Isn't that sad enough?" I asked and she shrugged.
"Tunde just....He was so...different. I have never...loved anyone like that before....well, I never loved after what he did to me."
"I guess I understand how you feel." I cupped her palms.
"It's just hard."
"You know that he feels bad right?" I said and she scoffed.
"Which kind. He doesn't feel anything." She said
"He does. I saw the look on his face when he saw you sad."
"He deserves it." She began to fist her palm but I used my thumbs to caress the back of her palm to sooth her.
"Well. Could you at least...you know, forgive him?" I minded my words.
There was a long pause, but she finally spoke...
"I'll try. But don't think I'm getting back with him. God forbid bad thing." She gave a disgusted look and I couldn't help but laugh.
"Okay. Like you said, life is not like Wattpad. So not everyone gets a happy ending." I shrugged
"Hey!" She shouted and used a pillow to hit my head.
"Kini?" (What?) I pouted in confusion.
"Who said I wouldn't have a happy ending." She frowned but the smile on her face made me know she was in a good mood
Thank God.
"Oya sorry. I just thought you wanted to be a nun, that's all." I smirked and she hit me again.
"You don't know your pillow used to pain somebody, you'll just be knacking(hitting) pillow on somebody head." I pouted rubbing my head like a child.
Well it's good Cos it warranted an eruption of laughter from her.
Now I feel relieved, my friend is happy. Then so am I.
Lesbian or not, she's like my sister and I love her.
................
"So how's it going between you and Ayo?" Debby asked.
It's been thirty minutes since I came here and she says I could sleep in her room for the night.
Now it's a sleep over. Only there's no ice cream or movies.
"We're good." I shrugged still laying on my back staring at the ceiling.
"So are you going to tell me, or you'll still keep denying it." She said
"I don't get."
"You guys have done the deed haven't you?" She smiled.
What?
"What deed, I don't understa....oh my...Debby!." I shouted as realization dawned on me.
"Tell me jhoor." (Please)
"No. We haven't. I'm still pure okay? Now stop corrupting my ear." I closed my ears with my fingers.
"I sha know that sooner or later you guys would do it." She said and I rolled my eyes.
Silence.
Big time silence.....
Okay now it's a deafening type of silence...
"You really left Ola for Ayo." She said mostly to herself but I heard.
"I guess I did."
I wonder how Ola is. Is he alright? I wonder how he's taking the idea of being with Ayo. I can't believe I didn't even call him. What kind of a person am I? First thing tomorrow I'll call him.
Promise.
"Good night." I mumbled
"Goodnight ooo." She mumbled back before yawning.
........................
10:26am
"Shit I over slept. Again." I mumbled with a frown as I rubbed my eyes.
I began to take note of my environment.
I don't remember painting my room walls blue, or having a gas cooker in my room when there's a kitchen....
Oh.
This is Debby's room.
Wait, where is she sef?
Without making an attempt to get out of bed, I scanned the entire room with my eyes.
"Thank God, you don wake." (You've woken) Debby emerged from the bathroom with a towel around her chest.
"Um..."'I trailed off.
Was there where we were going?
"C'mon stand up. You're late...." She said as she headed to her wardrobe.
"Late for what?" I asked rubbing the back of my neck.
"Did you drink last night. You're a university student, you have lectures. 10:30. And we're going to go late."
I have?....holy shit I have lecture!
I hurried out of her room and ran to my bathroom as fast as I could.
How is it possible that you forget to go to school. What am I becoming in this life?!
Within ten minutes, I was already dressed and ready to go.
"How did you get ready so fast?" Debby asked as we both headed towards our house door.
"Please don't ask." I didn't even look at the mirror.
I'm sure I look like someone that got hit by a truck.
"Where Nessa dey?" (Where's Nessa?) I asked finally noticing she wasn't here.
"She left. Earlier before us. Something about punishing us for always waking up late." Debby mumbled.
"And yes, before I forget," Debby turned to face me with a bright smile on her face. "We're going on a date with the boys." She added.
"We?" I frowned
"Yes, we. Nessa and Luke. You and Ayo ..... Me and Tunde." She added
"Ehnnn?!" I shouted.
"What? Is it not you that said I should try and get back with him?" She pouted.
I said you should try to forgive him, not get back....Wait, getting back with him sounds nice.
"Um...o-okay. When?"
"This evening." She replied immediately.
Oh God.
