Chapter 23: Chapter 23
VICTORIA'S POV...
"Hope you remember the plan." I asked probably for the umpteenth.
"Ooo. Lemme alone o." He grunted
"Just say it. One more time. For the last time." I persisted.
"I'll call Tunde and you'll call Debby. We'll tell them to meet us here. In this deserted lecture room and we'll leave them both alone to sort out their differences and we'll all live happily ever after the end." He sounded like a grumpy big baby.
"Okay. We're good. Let's go." I hopped out of his car and dialed Debby's number.
"This is Debby's phone. If you're not calling me to give me money, then cut this call and fuck off." She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Are you done?" I asked with boredom audible in my voice.
"V.what do you want?" She grumbled
"I need you to meet me in English department." I requested
"You mean that abandoned room that we go to hangout?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
Ooo. Which kind girl be this?
"Just come." I spat and cut the call.
"I've called him, he's on his way." Ayo said to me.
And even a baby can tell he doesn't like what we're doing. He hated it right from when I explained it to him the day before yesterday.
I had told Nessa, hoping she'd tag along, but she just got up and left. Mumbling a warning to me.
I wonder why she had the attitude.
...........
"He's here." Ayo said with no enthusiasm.
"Okay. Let's get into position." I began to shake out of excitement.
"Guys, what the hell. I was in progress with one girl. Do you know the last time I satisfied my binga?" He said.
Wait what?
"Binga?" I asked in confusion
"Its his way of saying dick." Ayo subconsciously mumbled.
Debby calls dick binga.
"Why'd you bring me here?" He frowned.
"We...."
"I'm here. I would have arrived earlier but somebody just had to stop to bye recharge card." She glared at Nessa who finally came into view.
Vanessa is here?
"Um. Nessa you're here?" I asked already nervous.
"I was with her when you called." She shrugged.
"So why'd you ask us....." Debby was asking a question but trailed off.
Her eyes were locked on Tunde's.
You could see a hint of care at first, but then, it changed.
Like the weather, it changed.
"You?" They both chorused.
And it wasn't a surprised look on their faces.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" Debby kept the glare on
"I want to ask you the same thing." Tunde mimicked her tone.
"Um...guys, I called this...reunion meeting ." I cut in before they both ended up throwing punches at each other.
"You made me meet this idiot? What were you thinking?" The glares of both pair of eyes met me.
"No. You guys knew each other and I thought it was right to bring you two together and talk out your differences. Cos when you look at it, you both have a lot in common." Okay I said that a little too fast.
I glanced at Nessa and she had a disappointed look on her face.
It also said I warned you about this.
I looked at Ayo. Thinking he could cheer me to continue but I knew all he wanted to do was get out of this mess.
"You thought wrong. I don't want to be anywhere near a guy like him. He's a perfect excuse for a goat." Debby crossed her arms.
"Why am I not shocked that you don't want to be with a guy?" He said and they both held hard glares.
"That's the problem you have. You think you're perfect. But you're not. No one is."
Okay the story is getting interesting.
"Well at least I know I'm normal. And straight."
Wait what?
I looked at Debby and I saw tears already clouded her eyes.
"You never let go of the past. I'm not the girl you thought I was. People change." I saw she was fighting back her tears.
"People change but not totally."
What's going on here?
"Fine. If that's what you want then, fine, let them all hear it." Debby turned to face me and Ayo with tears still in her eyes.
Hear what?
"I'm a lesbian!"
Pause.
Wait.
Hold on....
What?!
"Well, I was a lesbian. But I've changed...I changed, but this motherfucker doesn't want to believe me. He thinks because I'm not normal, then I'm bad. That I'm not supposed to even be alive." She was trying so hard to stifle the cries.
Deborah cries?
"You don't change. There's no way you just change all of a sudden...Fine you like boys too, that just makes you bi-sexual." Tunde retorted
"What?! What is exactly wrong with you? You say people don't just change all of a sudden....then why did you? Why did you change?" Debby yelled
Okay this is not what I had planned.
"I remember back then, I remember all the things you told me. You said you loved me. You beat up any guy that came my way, you even yelled at my dad for upsetting me. Then why did you change?"
"You're a lesbian. They follow girls not guys."
"I said I changed!" She shouted
"If you changed then why did you kiss Ifeoma?" He shouted back and she stopped.
Absolute silence.
"So that's it." Debby sounded like she just realized something.
"That's why you changed," She looked him in the eyes and a tear managed to finally escape. "Because you saw me with her."
"Well at least it's good you didn't deny it." Tunde said and she scoffed.
"Yes, I did kiss her, because she was my girlfriend. But I had to breakup with her. That was my way of a final goodbye," There was a while of silence, but she continued "so I could finally be with you in peace." Her voice was in the utmost whisper.
She still loves him.
I looked at Tunde and his face softened at what she said, but instantly turned into the famous glare they both had.
"But then what did you do?" She asked "You just concluded, and ended everything we used years to build up. Trust, honesty, care...love."
Okay this is another part of Debby I've never seen. Fine I know I've put myself in trouble for the reunion, but I can't just help but be amazed.
"You were the one that ended what we built." Tunde insisted and she sighed shaking her head.
"It's like you forget everything that happened. I was there when your family wasn't, I was there when the whole world wasn't, I stayed with you when you had to leave the house Cos your dad brought another woman home and your mum had left you alone with him. I was there when it rained, we shared the same bed, I hid everything from my parents so as to keep you safe....There was this time you had to stay for a month in my room and I had to smuggle food in for you....You know a lot happened between us in that room, our first everything, hug, revealing secrets, kiss, blowjob...sex...and as much as it hurts to say, love." Now tears were flowing down her cheeks
"I guess that was just being curious and stupid. Teenagers tends to do stupid stuffs.....And all this." Debby now turned to me and I gulped
Oh God.
"I thought you were my friend." She looked at me in disbelief.
"I am."
"Well friends don't bring their friends worst enemy to them so as to see them fight. Victoria, your life is perfect. In fact I envy you. Beauty, smartness, and you have a fucking boyfriend that doesn't criticize the abnormal side of you. My life was good...healing in fact. I tried my best to stay away from distractions, that was why I hated Ayo, because he was friends with him," She pointed at Tunde who hadn't said anything since. "Do me a favor and mind your business. Don't try to make life a perfect fairytale Cos it's not, because yours is doesn't mean others can be like that too. Just....do...I..I have to go." She didn't give another glance at someone but Tunde, like she was waiting for him to say something.
When he doesn't, she left. Vanessa following behind.
I have to apologize to her.
Ayo's POV.....
I watched all the drama that happened in just ten minutes. And it finally ended with the girls running after Debby.
"Fuck it!" Tunde shouted before punching the wall, drawing blood to his knuckles.
Leave him. Let him let it all out.
After a few more punches on the wall, he finally slumped to the floor, digging his hands into his hair.
I sat down beside him, slowly, taking note of his every reaction. Then I made myself comfortable, by resting my back on the wall behind us.
"Bro." I tried to say
"I love her." He blurted out now staring at the ceiling as if trying to get something off his head and concentrate.
"No matter how I try to build a wall in my mind, once I see her it crumbles to the ground. I begin to remember all she just said... I made her mad, sad....you know she really has changed....since we got to the university, I've been watching her. She's with guys now..."
"Then why did you..."
"I was nervous, I panicked, I didn't mean all I said to her. No matter what she is I still love her. I owe her everything I have. If not for her I wouldn't be here...and it kills me to know that she's hurt because of me...guy, I don't know what to do." His eyes were already glassy.
"Well, first, I'm sorry. This should never have happened. And secondly. You love her. And by the looks of things, she feels the same way. It's up to you now, you have to win her back. It won't be easy, but you have to give it your all, Cos she did the same for you." I said and he looked at me as tears slide down his cheek.
"You think she'll forgive me. I've been horrible to her." He stared at his feet.
"You aren't gonna tell her. You'll show her. Show her how special she is to you. I'm sure you'll be with her in no time." I said
"Really?" He asked and I slapped his back with a reassuring smile
"Yes. Let's get out of here." I got up and helped him up.
"And this concludes that...." I trailed off wiggling my brows.
"What?" He frowned
"We both lost the bet of not loving in the university." I sighed
"Shut up." He nudged me.
"But I guess you're right. Those girls are witches. They probably possessed us with love potion." He said and I laughed.
Well it's good to know he's back.
Victoria's POV...
"Debby Wait!" I called out for the umpteenth time but to no avail.
"Debby, Guys, I'm sorry. I swear I didn't know. If I had known I would've..."
"Would've have what? Turn it around to favor you. This isn't a story whereby you're the author. So better get your head out of that Wattpad stuff and look at reality." This time it wasn't Debby.
Nessa's mad too?
"Please. I'm sorry. I feel bad about this. Once again I didn't think before acting. Please." Tears now clouded my eyes.
They aren't just friends. They're my sisters.
"Look I just wanna go home." Debby sniffed.
Maybe I should just give them time.
I watched them enter their car and drove off.
What have I done?
Ayo and Nessa warned me about this.
Now I've done something...stupid.
"Babe." I heard the over familiar voice say to me and in one second, I'm hugging him and he has his hands wrapped around me tightly as he placed soft kisses on my temple.
At least I have him.
"I'm so sorry. You tried to talk me out of it but I refused to listen...."
"Shhh. Don't say anything okay. You knew what was right and you did your best to stand by it." He whispered
Right? There was nothing right about today.
"Ayo's right." Tunde says calmly.
My sober soon stops and I launched for him with full force.
"Tell me one reason I shouldn't hit your balls." I spat.
"Is the fact that I'm in love with your best friend enough." He said and I saw the sadness.
Fake.
"If you did you wouldn't have said what you said to her."
"I know and I feel bad I swear, that's why I want to make it up to her." I wasn't buying what he was saying but my grip on him loosened.
It better be good.
