Chapter 302: Chapter 302: Ant Queen’s Evolution complete (2/3)
The boar and the pup now moved freely all around the camp.
The boar even went outside the fence and made a small territory of its own to sleep in, as if being called by its genetics and instincts to do so.
The pup didn’t seem to have a sense of personal space, so it went and crashed the boar’s territory and lived there in peace while their human was being trained with all sorts of new skills.
The baron also sensed that Elias wanted to be more than just a tamer who stood around with nothing else to do.
So he tried teaching Elias the basics of swordsmanship, which he failed miserably.
But during the whole learning process, the baron was able to pick out the best thing from Elias’s inherent abilities.
He made a makeshift bow for him, as there weren’t any professional ones with them at the moment.
When Elias tried using the bow for the first time, it was a very awkward situation to look at, but soon, he started getting used to it, which was more than when he was learning swordsmanship.
This helped each member of the trio get many micro and long-term goals for their growth, as they had to stay here as long as the baron felt Theo was not strong enough.
These days, the ant queen was able to birth a few hundred broods of a big size, making Theo sure that he would be able to make do with these numbers.
It had eaten the whole crawler without any problems, and now, it was able to get to the next one too.
Theo felt like the ant queen was like a deep pit, just like the mantis. Looking at the size of its being, Theo had some doubts that it would be able to eat such a big thing or not.
But apparently, it was. There was just some need to get used to eating so much.
It was also able to keep the hive mind nexus active for a whole full day instead of the 12 hours needed, making Theo realize that they were already ready for the evolution.
The training kept going on, and it was now the 10th day since they came to the gate. Yet Theo felt like it had been ages with the way they were progressing and training.
Theo and the mantis were now close to halfway to level 8, which was a really big thing, as Theo had not leveled up a single time since he started training his body.
It was all the mantis.
Clara and Elias were also somewhat the same, as their beasts started following the mantis to the war zone and fighting those monsters to eat them.
Yet their leveling speed was nowhere near the mantis’s.
Soon, there was another factor that came in. The ants needed a lot more to eat now than before.
With the spiked ones getting bigger and bigger, and some ants that were naturally born bigger, a lot of the crawlers started going to them, which made Theo take a few of the ants with him, in his pockets, to the area where they could fight.
The spider and the bigger ants had good synergy, and the embermaws worked really well with everyone due to their sizes.
Theo wasn’t going to make a lot more of this evolution, as they didn’t seem to be getting any bigger. Yet he was trying to get their resin burn ability as high level as possible.
A time when the resin could burn through the skin of the crawlers was awaited by Theo desperately, as only then would they finally get a lot more useful than they currently were.
On the 15th day, the ant queen was finally able to eat the whole two crawlers that Theo had chosen.
By that time, there were fifteen big underground chambers in the colony rather than the needed three.
Theo decided that the ant queen needed to be in front of them on the ground during the evolution, as he didn’t need any complications this time.
If need be, he was willing to use even the best potions he had on it.
The ants started making the hole a lot bigger for the queen to get out.
And after thirty minutes, Theo finally saw its silhouette after a very, very long time.
’...’ Theo didn’t know what to say or think right now.
The hole for the entrance was a lot bigger now, and soon enough, the ant queen was fully out.
The first thing Theo saw was how big the ant queen had gotten. It was nothing like the first time he had tamed it.
And he was shocked by the sheer amount of ants around it currently, picking it up on their bodies and moving the ant queen forward.
’Are you okay, ant queen?’ Theo thought with guilt, as he was the one who had given the ant queen so much to eat.
And soon, the size of the queen seemed a lot more accurate with the amount of food it had consumed these past many days.
The ant queen sent emotions of being completely okay. There were even emotions of happiness, as according to it, the evolution had already begun inside it.
Theo heard heavy steps behind him and nodded toward his father.
"Has it already started?" the baron asked while looking at all the ants. His eyes squinted.
"The size of them is nothing compared to what I have seen before, but still... there are hundreds that are five—no... ten times bigger than I last saw them."
"Apparently, their size increases when the queen gets a lot of meat to eat. The brood comes out a lot stronger and bigger," Theo spoke and crouched down.
He could see the ant queen start to shiver a lot.
Soon, all the ants started getting to it and climbing up until there was no way anyone could see where the ant queen was.
The baron made a face of disgust, and even Theo couldn’t help but have a hard time looking at it.
There were thousands of ants in one place, crawling all over the ant queen until there was nothing left but a moving mess.
