Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Sneaking in the gate (2)- Evolution Potential Detected
They moved through the forest with buried steps. Theo was surprised to see how the baron was able to make his steps become unheard, which seemed like an unbelievable thing to do, seeing his size.
The forest was uneven ground, and with the trolley with them for the first time, Theo found it hard to maneuver it.
While Elias had helped upgrade the wheels of the trolley with an even better material, it still felt hard to make it move in the forest’s terrain.
There came times when Elias and Clara had to pick the trolley from each side carefully to move it past a big obstacle.
The more Theo saw all that, the more he wondered if this was a very good idea.
But what other options did he have? There were going to be the first 1000 ants in the colony soon, and if he counted the brood too, then they were already there.
How could he make a better method for them to travel with him? These were questions that needed answers, but for now, he had no way of changing it as he was going to be out of his home for an unknown amount of time.
They kept moving forward with the same routine until after around 30 minutes of constant travel, the baron finally halted and pointed at a location.
Theo and the others had already noticed the end of the forest, but when they focused further, he could see a slight silhouette of a building from afar, yet it was really hard to make out what it was.
’I wonder what he sees?’ Theo thought while looking at the baron who started moving again.
In a matter of minutes, they were at the end of the forest and everyone got to see the full appearance of the clearing.
A shiver went down Theo’s spine when he saw that bluish, werving energy floating in the air in the clearing.
It was a lot smaller than the gigantic one the baron and his brothers entered, but it didn’t mean this was going to be any less dangerous.
"There are 2 outposts with level 10 tamers guarding it. There are a lot of gates in the whole kingdom, so the kingdom is only able to deploy middle-range tamers to these gates." The baron explained, "That is going to be our advantage."
"Fix your hoods again, we will start moving toward the target." He stated with a cold voice.
Theo hadn’t seen his father like this before, hell, he hadn’t seen him fight before either.
His level of strength was as big of a mystery as the primordial beast.
The only difference was that the baron was helping him train, and he might just see his father’s level of strength in the gate. Theo was excited for the opportunity.
The baron stepped into the high clearing and started moving with his usual speed.
The trio did the same, and Theo realized that getting the better wheels was worth it, as in a plain surface, there was no sound and the trolley moved with finesse.
’Aren’t we moving in the open a lot?’ Theo thought. While trusting the baron was the only thing they could do.
One could only think about it. They were moving toward the gate and toward the outposts as if there was no one to see them.
In 3 minutes of moving forward, Theo realized that there might not be any tamers in the outposts, as nobody came out or was on patrol.
When they finally moved past the outpost, they all saw through the transparent window that nobody was in there.
Chip was looking for any tamers or beasts along the outskirts, but there was no one keeping an eye on them.
"As a Merrick, you should know this, Theo." The baron muttered in a normal voice as if there was no one, so there was no point in hiding anymore.
"The kingdom isn’t as rich as it always seems to be. There are holes in the rule of the royal family that are known by almost every known noble family, some individual entities too..." He spoke.
Theo only nodded. This was additional information that he didn’t have a problem keeping with himself, but there was nothing he could gain through it in the present, which was the most important for him.
"The gates are already a death sentence for many, so it makes sense that they cut costs by not hiring guards here... The outposts also create an illusion that the gate is being guarded."
"But like your mother says, if you ever start something, you need to complete it with the utmost honesty. Always remember that."
"Yes, father."
It felt like this was the first time the baron and he were talking for so long.
They quickly got a few meters away from the gate, and Theo halted on his own.
The gate looked like a distorted hole in reality. It wasn’t like a teleportation spell he had read about in books or technology.
Its nature felt wild the moment he came in front of it.
"Don’t worry, passing a gate is safe for the human and beast body. And we bring whole carriages inside the gate, so that trolley will be all alright." The baron explained, making Theo nod.
Before he knew it, the baron took a small step forward and toward the gate.
Theo looked at both Clara and Elias who were keeping a calm poker face, but he knew their nerves were tense.
Before he knew it, the baron smiled and moved inside the light, only to vanish without a change in the energy of the gate.
It was as if he was not there anymore.
"Please go first, young master. We will follow you." Clara spoke and tightened the strap on her waist and lower chest. There were a lot of equipment all around her, which was the same for Elias who was wearing a really big bag.
Theo nodded and took a few steps forward.
While he was moving, he felt a tingling effect which made him jerk when the distorted energy strands connected with his body one too many times.
It was a weird sensation, as if a static current on a lower end.
Before he knew it, he was directly inside the energy of the gate and felt a flash of light all around him.
