Chapter 845: Chapter 845
Soldiers held their Type 81 rifles and attacked the mutated bumblebees with single shots, bullets penetrated their bodies, causing corpses to drop incessantly like hailstones. However, there were too many bumblebees, and their flight speed was extremely fast, almost in the blink of an eye, they had rushed within a dozen meters.
Listening to the buzzing sound made by the bumblebees flapping their wings and looking at the disgusting patterns and compound eyes on their bodies, the heart of every soldier thumped rapidly, and no one wanted to become a corpse curled up like the native soldiers.
"These soldiers are of good quality," Dantai’s eyes brightened. Although the soldiers were nervous, they didn’t run away, each standing their ground firmly. This made him feel proud but also filled with worry and sadness, for after this round was over, some of these soldiers were sure to die.
Sha Ou held an MG3 machine gun in one hand and swept at the swarm of bumblebees, supporting the bullet chain with his left hand, continuously feeding it into the magazine. Amidst the spray of gunsmoke at the muzzle, his bullets cleared the nearby bumblebees like cutting wheat; but what was most eye-catching was Tang Zheng’s Heavy Magnetostorm Rifle. Every blue lightning ball he shot exploded into a thunderous jungle, dozens of charred bumblebee corpses fell, and even the surrounding greenery was devastated.
Although Ruan Feifei and Dantai’s Thunderstorm rifles overshadowed the soldiers’ Type 81s, they were left far behind by Tang Zheng’s S-grade weapon.
Both Conquerors puckered their lips, pondering the capture of a powerful weapon.
It took Tang Zheng’s squad a little over two minutes to clear the thousand-strong swarm of bumblebees, then they rushed to the already devoured and mangled corpse of the native soldier.
Dantai squatted down to check the soldier’s equipment and searched the scene. The man had a European face and was still using gunpowder firearms that looked like a variant of the AK family.
Wanting to save some bullets, Tang Zheng switched to a Thunderstorm rifle and also tried to take out the Beetle vehicle from the space wristwatch, which wasn’t restricted. This delighted him immensely.
"Li Guaizi, if you open fire recklessly again, I’ll beat you to death," the platoon leader Zuo Yi, an old soldier and hot-tempered, immediately pulled Li Guaizi in front of him for a fierce scolding as soon as it was temporarily safe.
Tang Zheng noticed that while Zuo Yi was scolding the newbie, he kept stealing glances at him. He couldn’t help but sigh; besides caring for everyone’s safety, the platoon leader was also worried Tang Zheng would discipline his soldiers. With this outburst, Tang Zheng found it harder to take action.
The soldiers were amazed to see Tang Zheng could take out many things from his wristwatch, looking at him with great curiosity.
"Find anything useful?" Sha Ou went to connect with the soldiers. Ruan Feifei didn’t care about these things and stood by Dantai, wanting to learn this knowledge.
"A map. It looks like we’re on a small island," Dantai unfolded the map, quickly scanning it. Several places were highlighted in red with a pen, apparently piers and destinations the native soldiers had to reach.
Tang Zheng and the company commander walked over while others took charge of the lookout. They weren’t eligible to join the discussion.
"This island is quite big," the company commander glanced at the scale, searching for prominent landmarks to determine their location. "Is there a highway here?"
"I have a Doe Armed Helicopter at my disposal, which can take to the skies for reconnaissance," Tang Zheng knew the risk was great in doing so. As for the Power Armor, he didn’t want to reveal it too early.
"No, you’ll definitely be shot down," Dantai disagreed. Before a solution was deliberated, the sparse gunshots suddenly intensified.
"Let’s capture a few hostages first," Dantai tossed the map to Tang Zheng and, holding his rifle, darted out with everyone hurriedly following.
This time, insects the size of wild boars, with hard shells that could withstand seven or eight regular bullets, appeared in the squad’s view. Their six abdominal legs were covered with sharp barbs, allowing them to leap through the jungle and fiercely attack a group of native soldiers, then left a trail of bloodied corpses.
Tang Zheng’s squad fired and killed them, charging forward. Gunshots also rang out from another side, evidently another Trojan Squad had found the natives and came to investigate.
The native soldiers ran out of ammunition, their defense line breached by the bugs, and they soon became corpses, completely consumed by the bugs.
"It must be Fleischer’s squad," Dantai didn’t think they would abandon the opportunity to gather intelligence and leave easily.
When the bugs were attacked, they immediately split into two groups to hinder the two squads.
"Watch your back," Tang Zheng reminded the company commander, then turning to him, "Shall we take them out? This is a good opportunity. Our squad should be stronger than they are."
"Of course, company commander, you take your soldiers and circle around from the right. We’ll attack them from both sides," with the map in hand, Tang Zheng wasn’t as urgent about capturing prisoners anymore.
"Going to kill people?" The company commander was taken aback, and the other soldiers also turned their gaze to Tang Zheng. They were just ordinary soldiers who only needed to train normally, and they had never thought about killing people.
"No choice. If you want to survive and return, you must kill them," Dantai was worried those soldiers, full of a sense of justice, couldn’t turn that corner.
"But this is killing people, a crime!" The company commander fell silent. One soldier whispered in a low voice while shooting, his hands trembling slightly. He couldn’t accept this.
The response was a burst of gunfire, mixed with the sound of grenades exploding. A few Germans moved behind them and suppressed them with heavy firepower. Another team of German scouts also began attacking from their side.
The Germans clearly didn’t hesitate like our soldiers, setting out to kill them from the start. Hence, they completed the encirclement first.
.50 caliber M2 heavy machine guns swept through, causing branches to scatter and thick tree trunks to snap, while 20mm machine guns fired continuously, carpet-bombing Tang Zheng’s position.
In just a moment, the once tranquil woods were swallowed by the roar of gunshots and cannon fire. The enemy appeared to be using armored vehicles, pressing down our soldiers so heavily they could barely lift their heads, almost deafening them as they lay on the ground unable to mount an effective counterattack.
"This won’t do, the enemy’s firepower is too intense," the company commander bellowed. Even so, his voice was heavily drowned out by the sounds of the cannonade.
"Don’t use the Hellfire." Dantai also wanted Tang Zheng to hold onto his trump card. He didn’t pull out the Scavenger power armor he’d acquired in the Mechanical Labyrinth game, but instead released an Apache armed helicopter in a clearing that had just been swept by the enemy’s machine gun fire.
Dantai jumped in and quickly started it up. Amid the thunderous roar of the engine, the blades started spinning, creating a massive downdraft that even bent the treetops, before it ascended into the sky.
Tang Zheng glanced at the injured soldiers and released a BMP-3 armored vehicle. Lifting his right leg, he stepped on the tracks and jumped aboard, then crawled into the turret.
Amidst the grinding noise, the turret rotated; the 2A70 100mm cannon was aimed at the approximate position of the enemy squad. The source of thɪs content is novel⁂fire.net
A boom sounded as the muzzle flashed and the vehicle shuddered. The cannon shell, carrying tremendous kinetic energy, shot out and blasted a passage through the jungle.
Ruan Feifei and Sha Ou were holding back the Beetles, and the soldiers were initially stunned, not expecting an infantry armored car and an armed helicopter to appear out of nowhere. But their courage quickly returned.
"What are you waiting for? One of you, come and operate the car-mounted machine guns." As the second cannon shell blasted out, Tang Zheng turned on the loudspeaker and called several soldiers over to help. Without the automatic loader system, he wouldn’t be able to manage the vehicle alone.
The enemy armored vehicle, hit by the attack, was thrown into disarray. Obviously, they were all newbies, hastily preparing for battle, capable only of pressing buttons, not even knowing how to deploy jamming countermeasures.
Thud, thud, two smoke bombs were fired and then exploded in front of the enemy’s vehicle, completely disrupting their visibility.
The BMP-3 began to unleash its firepower, holding its ground against the German forces, but as Dantai joined the battle piloting the Apache, their defeat was inevitable.
Dantai knew being in the sky meant he was an easy target, so he climbed to a ten-meter altitude. Without even using the fire control system, upon spotting the position from where the enemy’s machine guns were firing, he pressed the launch button.
The aircraft shuddered, and then the bullet nest began its roar as whooshing sounds filled the air. The rocket shells screamed as they were all fired, engulfing the enemy’s position.
The jungle was immediately consumed by a sea of flames.
"Come back, keep away from the armored vehicle!" Seeing a few soldiers trying to take cover near the armored vehicle, the company commander waved them back immediately—it was far too dangerous near the vehicle, which was sure to be the first target.
Dantai’s luck was horrendous. Before he could finish unloading his ammunition, an enemy Stinger missile, trailing a smoke tail, hurtled toward the Apache.
Bang, bang, all the jamming shells were fired and burst in the sky as Dantai immediately began evasive maneuvers. Tang Zheng emerged from the turret, opened the Mechanical Lion Roar Cannon, and fired back at the enemy.
Seeing the Stinger explode, Dantai breathed a sigh of relief and quickly descended. He wasn’t confident he could dodge another one, but the battle below had shifted into Tang Zheng’s hands.
The enemy was no easy target; they also had a Roaring Cannon. A light beam grazed the armored vehicle, nearly melting the armor.
"Charge!" Tang Zheng didn’t want to sit and wait for death inside the vehicle, so he leaped out, retracted the vehicle, and began his assault. Once the enemy lost their armored vehicle, relying on an infantry duel, the Hammer Squad would undoubtedly have the advantage.
The soldiers, struck by a sneak attack, were already seething. Hearing the order, they all advanced to assault, and Dantai’s carpet assault had nearly crippled the enemy.
The remaining German scouts retreated, leaving behind wreckage. Observing the burning Weasel combat vehicle and the charred limbs nearby, the young soldiers felt sick to their stomachs rather than victorious.
"Stop pursuing." Tang Zheng stopped them; with the Conquerors leading the enemy, the soldiers would have no chance of survival if they pursued.
"Attention, the bugs are closing in," the company commander shouted, warning everyone, "It’s a pity, the natives are dead, we can’t gather intelligence."
"Wrong, at least we have one more map than they do," Dantai appeared, "In the future, if we see the corpse of a native and can’t take it, destroy it."
In their first engagement, Fleischer’s scout squad was defeated and withdrew, leaving behind two corpses.
The Hammer Squad had no casualties, but five soldiers were injured, one of whom had his left leg blown off. This was obviously more burdensome to the team than a death. Things hadn’t started well.(To be continued.
