Chapter 46: Chapter 46

When you are not here, my heart seeks you like crazy because a partial view of yours is enough for me to lose myself in your love...

Evelyn POV:-

"Evelyn!"

"Evelyn!"

"Evelyn!"

I heard my name being called over again over again. I slowly opened my eyes and comprehended my surroundings and the sudden realization hit me about what happened.

I quickly sat up as a sudden pain shot through my body but bearing it, I looked around and saw Lawrence holding me close. Tears pricked in the corner of my eyes.

"Lawrence... Where's Skyler?" I asked in a panic. He remained silent. I held his shirt and asked again.

"Tell me Lawence! Where's Skyler?" Tears began to fall followed by a stream of them. "Please... Lawrence. Tell me.."

I put my head on his chest and continued to cry. He rubbed my back and kissed my head. Filled with dread, that was my sweet daughter. My body began to quiver in dread that might not happen to my Skyler.

No, I don't want to think about these scary things.

"Nothing will happen..." He tried to assure me but his voice was hoarse which couldn't give me any consolation. I wiped my tears and looked at him.

"Where's Skyler?" I asked a little firmly.

"She's not here. We have called the police." Lawrence said, looking away. His voice showed a glint of being ashamed for not being able to be here for his family. The posture I formed broke as I lost my strength and began to quiver.

"Lawrence.. please find my daughter.." I continued to cry as Lawrence held me close. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine." My shaky form continued to sob as Lawrence tried to calm me but I can't be calm when my daughter is absent.

I don't understand why this is happening to me. What harm have I ever caused anyone that this is happening to me?

I love my family and want to live a peaceful life with them. Why does someone have to invade my heaven and steal the most precious gift away from me?

Filled with intense sorrow I lost myself in the dread of what might be happening to my daughter.

"What exactly happened?" Officer asked.

"Lawrence and John went to get some wood and explore the land. I and Skyler were in the house. She was playing but then she said someone was behind me.

Before I could see who's there, I lost consciousness." I told them.

"Have you seen anyone coming to the house?" He asked again. I shook my head 'no'. "Why did you guys come here in the first place?"

"For vacations."

"Why here?"

"It's our land," Lawrence replied. He nodded and stood up and left to search. I hugged Lawrence and began to cry again.

He held my hand and said, "If you'll break, how will I have the courage to face it?" He kissed my hand and I slowly nodded in agreement and wiped my tears but still, I am quivering in dread.

It's dinner time and I am in Skyler's room looking at her toys. Lawrence came and sat beside me. I put my head on his shoulder and he began to say, "Please eat.."

"How can I eat Lawrence?" I looked at him as tears rolled on my cheeks.

"How can I, When I don't know whether my daughter has eaten or not? You know, she can't tell when she is hungry. We don't know if she has eaten or not. You know she can't sleep unless I take her in my arms and hum to her. When she didn't see me for long she began to cry. How can I do anything when she is suffering?"

Tears continued to fall uncontrollably. Lawrence held my shoulders firmly and looked at me, "We will find her. Don't worry." I sniffed and nodded.

I wiped my tears and continued to look at her toys. Please my daughter, be safe...

***

It's been two days and we still haven't found a trace of her. My anxiety is reaching its peak in dread. I can't comprehend the things around me.

Each time I think that she'll be here but to no avail. Everyone came when they heard the news and right now I am hugging my mother as Aunt Camila is rubbing my back.

"Please anyone give my Skyler back." I continued to cry.

"You need to stay strong," Aunt said.

"I can't... Not when my strength is away from me..." I whispered and continued to let out gasps of dread.

It's night and I and Lawrence are in Skyler's room. As I was staring aimlessly, my phone rang. I picked the call and let out my shaky voice,

"Desperate to meet your daughter?" I heard a voice which I am sure I have heard before but I can't recognize.

"Please don't hurt my daughter!" I cried. Lawrence looked at me. He was about to stand to tell someone but I held his hand and he looked at me perplexed.

"If you want to see her safe and sound, Come to the construction site of the Kite's new office. Alone. Without telling anyone."

"Okay.." I said as the person cut the call. I stood up and Lawrence asked, "What was it?" I wiped my tears and looked at him.

"They want me to come alone."

"No, you don't," Lawrence said. I cupped his cheeks and stared at him. "You will not go alone," Lawrence said. I leaned in and kissed his cheek and whispered something in his ear.

"I am going, okay?" I said. He looked away and didn't say a thing. I turned and was about to leave but he hugged me from behind.

"Please be safe." He said in a desperate tone. "I will," I said and left for there.

****

I reached the site and went in. I began to search for my daughter but didn't find her. After searching for a while, I saw Myra holding Skyler.

"SKYLER!" I shouted her name and walked closer but Myra yelled, "Stop right there!"

Treasuring the safety of my daughter first, I stopped and began to cry, "Please stop it, Myra! Why are you doing this!?"

Upon hearing my voice Skyler opened her eyes and began to cry, "Mama!" I cried again as Myra stood on the edge with Skyler in her arms.

"Either she falls or we fall." She threatened. "Please no!" I cried.

"What do you want? Why are you doing this?"

"Why? THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT WHEN HELLEN LEFT!" She shouted.

"Evelyn!" I heard Lawrence's voice as he came.

"I knew you would come after her!" Myra said with a wicked grin.

"Stop this Myra! You can't take my revenge on my family!"

Lawrence tried to make her understand and stop this nonsense but instead, she laughed hysterically. Why is she after my daughter?

"Now, Choose one Lawrence," Myra said, holding Skyler who was constantly crying near the edge. We are on the fifth floor and since the building is under construction, there are no railings near the edge, terrifying me to no extent.

"What do you mean?" Lawrence asked.

"Choose to save one. Either Evelyn or your daughter." Myra said, pointing a gun at me. I continued to cry as Lawrence's eyes widened in dread.

"No, No, Please put that gun down, Myra.." He said scared.

"You will suffer!" She yelled. She has gone insane in the fire of revenge.

"Nothing comes from vengeance! Calm Down!" Lawrence shouted back. He then turned his attention to me and smiled reassuringly,

"No harm will be caused to any of you." I looked at him and that moment I felt like we can actually prevail this, there will be no harm. His smile calmed me as I looked at Myra, "Let go of my daughter!" I shouted.

"Stop it! All of you!"
