Chapter 41: Chapter 41

I love it when you lower your gaze with that shy smile and with that blush, you run away.

I love it when your eyes bore into mine as if there is nothing else in the world.

I love all the things you never knew I noticed about you...

Evelyn POV:-

I felt my heart ache when I heard the loud cries of Lawrence. He continued to cry as I tried to soothe him. I couldn't bear to see him cry. It made me feel like I was being stabbed. Finally, after he calmed down, he pulled away and said,

"Thanks for coming into my life. You are everything I need." He said. I smiled and we stood up. He wiped his tears and left for the bathroom.

I sat on the bed and began to use my phone. Lawrence came out and crawled to me. I smirked and began to use my phone again.

He laid in my lap and began to twirl his fingers in my hair. I smiled and put the phone aside and looked at him. I giggled and ran my fingers in his hair as he continued to twirl his fingers in my hair.

We stared deep into each other's eyes. The absolute silence in the room gives us an eerie feeling of peace.

"Evelyn..." Lawrence called me. I hummed in response.

"I love you." He said. "I love you too," I said. I lean in as our nose brushes against each other. I smiled as he chuckled.

We remained like that and after a few seconds, he shifted his position. After a few moments, I heard his snore. I chuckle looking at him snuggling like a baby to me. And we spent the night like that...

After a few days, I and Lawrence went to have dinner outside. The moment we took a step out of the restaurant media came to us and asked,

"Sir, your wife loves your brother. Why do you still agree to marry her?" The reporter asked and my body went numb as dread took over me.

I held Lawrence's arm close and he noticed my discomfort. We ignored them and went home.

When we came home, Uncle, Aunt, Mother and Father were glaring at us.

"What the hell is that about?" Father hissed. Adrian is also standing in the corner with his head hanging low.

"Father .. listen to me.." I tried to speak but he cut me off.

"Don't tell me. That 'affliction' of yours was this?" He asked.

"Yes.." I said looking away. Father gave me a seething look and I felt low. But, Lawrence held my waist and pulled me close and I felt the energy which was deprived of me came back with much force.

Everyone stares at us to say something and Lawrence toldeveryone everything.

I looked away in shame but Lawrence said, "Evelyn is my wife and I will never allow anyone to degrade or doubt her love for me." I felt fluttering happiness inside of me when I felt so lucky to have a supportive husband like him.

His statement is enough for everyone to stop asking any questions.

"Why didn't you tell us before?" Father asked.

"I couldn't.." I said in a low voice. Lawrence, whose hand held my waist in a firm grip said, "We'll arrange a press conference tomorrow. Evelyn, go to your room and rest." I looked at him but he passed me an assuring smile, I nodded and left.

I went to my room but I just couldn't bear sitting here. I can't stay here when everyone is talking about it.

Curiosity gets the best of me as I left my room and stood outside the lounge and hear them talking,

"Who did this?" Uncle asked.

"Myra. She wants to make me suffer because of what happened to Hellen." He said. Myra, why is she falling that low?

"That incident?" Father asked. Does father know about it? Wait, what incident? What father emphasizes it too much?

"Yes," Lawrence replied.

"Then, we should tell the truth to everyone," Uncle said.

What is the truth? What are they hiding? Did father and Uncle know about what Lawrence did to Hellen? I just can't comprehend it. No, Trust your husband, when he said he didn’t force her then he didn’t. That’s all.

"No, We can't," Lawrence said. But, What are they talking about?

"Can you tell us too?" Mother said.

"We can't," Father replied. I was utterly bewildered by this. A silence fell upon the room and After a few seconds, I heard again,

"We will never let her marry you if we knew it before." I heard Uncle Shawn saying. I felt heartbroken by his words. I bit my lips to calm my guilty self.

"Never mind before, Now she is my wife and she loves me," Lawrence said. I smiled at Lawrence's benevolence.

"Adrian, what do you feel about Evelyn," Father asked.

"She is nothing but like a sister." He said.

"Please stop talking about my wife like that. I am sorry but I won't tolerate it anymore." Lawrence said exasperated. I looked down. Just because I used to love anyone, why is my life so cruel?

"We all have seen Evelyn's devotion to Lawrence." Aunt Kyla said.

"Yeah, there's no need to talk about her like that. We'll see what will happen at the conference." Mother said.

I stood outside as silence fell upon the room. I turned to leave but I felt arms around me and a hot breath on my neck. I was about to scream in dread but I felt a hand over my mouth to stop me from shouting.

"Shh... Evelyn, It's me." Lawrence whispered and removed his hand from the mouth and I exhaled. I looked at him and he smirked at me,

"Well, well, my wife is sneaking around."

He cooed in my ears and I shivered at his voice tingling on my skin. I was going to say something but he picked me up and took me to our room. God, this man has no patience.

****

All of us are at the conference and before they can ask anything, Lawrence spoke up first,

"Evelyn is my wife and I know she used to love my brother but everyone has a lover before their marriage so I don't think that it's much of a big deal."

"Don't you feel awkward, Mrs Bayford?" Reporter asked.

"I don't. Because from the moment I got married to Lawrence, I devoted myself to him." I said.

"Mrs Bayford isn't supposed to be your wife. Is it true?"

"Yes, our marriage was accidental," Lawrence said.

"How do you guys feel for each other then?"

"It's been a few days of our marriage and I found myself falling for Lawrence. So is he." I replied.

"If you get a chance to leave Mr Lawrence Bayford for Mr Adrian Boyford, what would you do?" They asked and my blood boiled in anger. I opened my mouth to say something but Lawrence spoke up first,

"Evelyn is my wife and only I have the right to doubt her love for me and I trust her blindly. She can never cheat on me.

She has proven her love and devotion to me and there's no need for her to prove it to you. As for that, All her feelings for Adrian faded away when she got married to me."

A smile formed on my lips as I looked at him. He looked at me and smiled back and then back at the reporters again,

"I love her and she loves me. And the dedication of hers is enough for me to know that the thought of someone other than me has never crossed her mind." Lawrence said and my heart is filled with pride. The feeling of being lucky filled me up.

Lawrence stood up and offered me his hand. I took it and stood up. He held my waist and turned me to him.

"I love you, Evelyn." He said.

"I love you too, Lawrence," I said with the deep satisfaction of being his wife.

He held my chin and his beguiling eyes bore into mine.

He leaned in and I felt his lips upon mine. My heart skipped a beat as I felt butterflies in my stomach. The kiss was brief but was filled with in-depth passion and love.

We smiled as a faint blush was formed on my cheeks. I felt so elated, I kissed him in front of everyone.

Our kiss left everyone speechless as the conference ended soon after...

I can't explain my exhilaration... I am so fortunate to have a husband like you... There's nothing else I want if I have you. . You are my everything Lawrence...
