Chapter 40: Chapter 40
..Your very existence is like a blessing from God which ignites the spark of hope in me that one day, one time, I'll have the honor of meeting you...
Evelyn POV:-
Adrian opened his mouth to say something but Lawrence came. I looked at him with my lips curved downwards, his smile faded as he asked, "What happened?"
I looked away and said, "The threats are not stopping." He raised his eyebrow in confusion and asked again, "What threats?"
I looked at him bewildered.
"I was being blackmailed that, someone will tell you about it and even after you knew everything, the threats are not stopping," I said looking down. Lawrence held my chin and made me look at him, my tensed gaze met his assuring one.
He smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'll do something about it." I nodded and he kissed my forehead, "As long as I am here, there's nothing to worry about."
He reassured me and I felt in that moment I have the power to prevail over every problem with ease that he is with me. I smiled and hugged him and he hugged me back.
He then turned his attention to Adrian and asked, "Did you know about it?"
"Yes, Evelyn suspects me that I have done this." He replied.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Lawrence asked angrily. I held his cuff and looked down in fright. Lawrence noticed my distress and sighed.
"Evelyn, wait here, we will be back." He said as he took Adrian with him. I remained still as apprehension filled me.
I went to the restroom to calm myself. I walked out and saw Tyron smirking at me. I passed him a smile and was about to leave but held my hand.
I flashed a glare at him and said, "Let go." His smirk grew wider as he said, "What if I say 'no'?"
I rolled off my eyes and dug my long nails in his hands. He winced as he let go of my hand. I was about to leave but he pushed me to the wall and covered my mouth. I tried to shout but my cries were muffled.
I tried to push him but to no avail. His strength was stronger than mine. The mystifying thing about it was that he is not trying to do anything. He gave me a look of hurt and remorse as well as a look of intense but unwanted anger.
I stopped struggling for a second and tried to think of a way to push him. But, the feeling of being powerless filled me.
The instant I thought that he wasn't gonna do anything, he moved closer and pressed himself against me. I felt so disgusted, I don't want to be defiled by him. I tried my best to push that revolting guy away.
Feeling broken and miserable, I closed my eyes as a tear was released and I prayed from the bottom of my heart for Lawrence to come and my prayers listened when I heard his voice,
"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER!"
Lawrence POV:-
I took Adrian into a corner and looked at him with a scowl, "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked.
"Brother, I forgot.." He said.
"You forget such an important thing that my wife is being blackmailed?" I hissed.
"Because I have nothing to do with her. I forgot." He said exasperated. I narrowed my eyes as he looked away, "Who did this?" I asked sternly.
He remained silent. "I have asked you something. Who? did. this?" I asked again.
"I can't tell you." He said. "Tell me, the person who told me about this and the one who threatened Evelyn, are the same person?" I asked again.
"No, they are not." He said. I nodded and gave him a death glare and said again, "Tell me. Now."
He looked down and said, "I don't know about the blackmailer and I cannot tell you the name of the person who sent you those screenshots either," He said without looking up.
I stare at him for a second and let out a sigh, "Fine... Let's go back." He looked at me with wide eyes. He expected me to force the name out of his mouth but I didn't. He nodded as we went back.
Evelyn was not there. Adrian excused and left for the restroom. I also thought that Evelyn might be there so I went there with Adrian.
My eyes widened when I saw Tyron had pinned Evelyn against the wall. My blood boiled in anger when a tear was released from her eye.
"GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER!" I yelled and punched him in the face. I grabbed his collar and punched him again and again.
"Get Away Lawrence!" Myra yelled. I ignored her and was about to punch him again but Evelyn hugged me from behind and began to cry, "Please... Stop.." She whispered. I stopped for a second and backed away. She hugged me and began to cry as I tried to console her.
"What the hell was that about!?" I yelled again. Myra helped Tyron to stand as he wiped the blood with his sleeve and glared at me.
"When this happens to your wife, how infuriated you have become," Myra said with venom in her voice.
"What?" I asked, perplexed.
"Where was this chivalry of yours when my sister cried to stop." Tyron hissed. My eyes widened as I stiffed.
"What are you talking about?" Evelyn asked.
"Asked your husband how he loved my sister, Hellen," Myra said. Evelyn looked at me but I remained motionless. My throat dried in dread when Myra continued,
"You know what, Evelyn, I blackmailed you. Because your husband has done something unimaginable to my sister."
"You could have done something to me, not to her..." I said.
"She is your life. The more tears she shed the more you'll suffer." She said,
"Let me tell you something about your husband, Evelyn. He drugged my sister and tried to be intimate with her and he did." Tyron said, giving me a hateful look. Evelyn looked at me with wide eyes.
"You told me that you don't." She whispered but it was loud enough to be heard by everyone.
"Oh yes, he did. He not only broke her physically but mentally as well. She was turned into an introvert and was eventually forced to leave the country!" Myra yelled, finally breaking into tears.
I looked down in shame and spoke in a barely audible tone, "I.. am still repentant for that day..." Evelyn took a step back. I gave her a pleading look to stop going away but she turned away and said to Adrian.
"Adrian, take me home." She left with Adrian without sparing a glance at me as I stood there filled with shame and guilt.
"I never want this to happen..." I said in a low voice.
"But, You did," Tyron growled. I didn't dare to look up and meet their gaze.
"Why... After all these years?" I asked again.
"Because you have a weakness now, I will take advantage of it just like you did," Myra said.
I remained speechless and turned to leave but I heard her saying, "You will pay for the agony you have caused to my sister!"
Feeling rue, I took a deep breath and went home.
I entered our room and saw Evelyn leaning on the table giving me a strict look. I looked down.
"Well, You indirectly told me everything, didn't you?" She said, anger was clear in her voice. I continued to look down and didn't utter a word.
"What else have you hidden from me?" She asked again.
"I.. lost myself... I regret it. I want to apologize to her. But, I swear, Evelyn, it’s not what you think."
"And you did, but she slapped you. Well, you deserve that." Evelyn said bitterly and gave out an empty laugh. I remained motionless as I heard her sigh.
“Please, have faith in me, do you honestly think I would… force anyone?” I asked with tears brimming in my eyes.
“Then how do you explain what Myra said?” She scoffed, frowning deeply at me.
“We both wanted it but… never told anyone. I lied to you. Please believe me, I could never do this.” My voice broke, praying deeply she would place faith in my words.
I heard her sigh which dropped my heart rate in dread, anticipating she might not do anything but-
She came closer and cupped my cheeks and made me look at her. My eyes were filled with grief as I stared at her silver orbs.
"I.. " I trailed off but before I could say anything else she kissed me. Shunned by her actions, I stood still. After a few seconds, she pulled away and smiled at me,
"I have faith in you, Lawrence, you are my pride. I know if you said, you didn’t. I believe in you."
She hugged me. I hugged her back and began to let those tears out which were causing me to fall into the bottomless pits of remorse. She continued to soothe me as I continued to cry in her embrace..
"I never want this…" I continued to cry. Even though the mystery of that night left Hellen with anyone being aware of it...
"I know.. It's alright.. Just apologize to her once again… and if she doesn’t listen and then tell her whatever it was." Evelyn said gently while rubbing my back as I continued to cry...
