Chapter 25: Chapter 25
...Your love is my salvation. It's like a thread which is binding me away from all the abhorrence of this world...
Lawrence POV:-
Finally after spending an unimaginably long time there; three days. I finally came back home. I just wanted to apologize to Evelyn. She didn't even pick my call and to be honest, I have also forgotten to call her. She must be furious.
“Please don’t be angry, please don’t be angry.” I sighed for the deep yearning for the affection of my wife.
Finally, I came back and my eyes searched for my wife but she was nowhere to be found. I greeted my mother and father. Mother hugged me and said,
"Welcome home, Son," I smiled and hugged mother back.
"Feels good to be home. By the way, Mother, have you seen Evelyn?" I asked as she shook her head 'no'. I need to see her, I want to see her.
"Desperate to meet your wife, aren't you, Brother?" Danielle said as Adrian was also standing behind her with a smirk.
"I just want to know where my wife is," I replied, speaking my wife sounds so beautiful and perfect on my lips. I want to say my Evelyn.
Danielle smirked and spoke up, "She's on the rooftop."
I smiled and was about to leave but Adrian began to say, "Filled with extensive fury."
I stopped in my tracks and looked at them who gave me a look as if they didn't care about it and were eager to see her rage. I shook off their looks and took a deep breath and went to the rooftop. I saw Evelyn leaning on the wall with her eyes closed.
Just looking at her pleasing features made me feel blessed as a feeling of solace rushed through me.
"Evelyn?" I called her to get her recognition. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at me. Our eyes met and she quickly shifted her gaze.
"Welcome home." She said, almost whispered.
"Thank you. I missed you so much." I smiled at her and she gave me an empty smile and said, "Oh? Is that so?"
My smile faded as I looked at her with guilt.
"I am sorry, Evelyn. Please forgive me." I said as she looked at me. Her eyes flicker with a condemned emotion.
"How can I make this up for you?" I whispered. I can do anything just to see her smile.
"Can our reception happen again? No. Then you can't." She spoke coldly and was about to leave but I stood in her path.
“Evelyn, do you think I wanted to leave? Was it my call?” I asked sorrowfully. I didn’t want to go either. She is always considerate so why is she not understanding I didn’t do it on purpose?
"Get away, Lawrence, You must be tired, take some rest, I will prepare something for you to eat." I looked down in shame and got away.
“Evelyn, please.” I whispered desperately, urging to hold her and plead for forgiveness.
“Lawrence, please.” She whispered, narrowing her eyes, frowning deeply at me.
Her demeanor clenched my heart, lips parting to speak something but no words came out. Even being angry, she is caring about me so much and it’s pricking my heart.
I went to our room and saw Evelyn making the bed. Without saying anything, I went to the bathroom and after taking a shower, I walked out. She wasn't there anymore.
With my heart, filled with remorse, I laid down and tried to sleep, extremely tired from the jet lag.
I felt someone poking me, I groaned in annoyance and turned away.
"Lawrence, wake up. If you'll wake up late then you won't be able to sleep at night."
I heard the melodious voice of my wife and quickly got up. I looked at her but she didn't even spare a glance at me
"Evelyn, Please.." I pleaded.
"What, Lawrence?" She coldly said, her anger was hurting me immensely and I can’t take it anymore, I had to do something to make up for her.
I bit my lips and left without saying a word.
A Few Days Later:-
It's been a while since I came back but still, Evelyn is not talking to me. I have known her for years. If she got incensed, it would be very difficult to make up. I was trying my best to convince her it was apparently not possible. She was not listening.
I was sitting on the bed while Evelyn put the dress on the couch and was about to leave but I called her,
"Evelyn.." She turned and looked at me and I continued,
"I know I can't make up for it but please don't be like that. I am sorry." I whispered desperately. I need her.
"It's okay." She speaks in a tone which pierces my heart.
"No, It's not okay. It hurts me when you talk to me like that. How many times do I tell you I don't want to do but I have to." I said and was about to touch her but he moved my hand away.
"You know, Lawrence, I was alone there and people asked me nothing but one question, 'Where is your husband?'. What was I supposed to answer? That he isn't here in his own damn reception!" She snapped, infuriated at me.
I looked down in shame when she burst her feelings. She's right, her words induced great ignominy in my chest. I wanted to make up for what I have done and I will do it no matter what it takes.
I left for work and when I came back early I began to search for Adrian and Danielle. I saw them in Adrian's room yelling at each other like always but apparently they were serious and I worried now.
What is happening in this house?
"WHY WOULD I RUIN THEIR LIVES?! HOW CAN YOU THINK LIKE THIS!?" I heard Adrian yelling at Danielle, utterly furious. They never had a serious argument then what happened?
"I AM ALSO NOT GOING TO LET THIS HAPPEN!" She yelled back, pointing her finger at him in contempt.
