Chapter 24: Chapter 24

... I watch with faze how your glimmering eyes shine through the twilight; being enticed by it, I allow myself to soar through the skies that have seen your caliginous days so that I can illuminate them with my love...

Lawrence POV:-

The strong feeling of displeasure anticipated by the fact that I have to leave my wife for work is killing me. Her eyes flicker with sorrow when I leave.

The distress in her eyes is clear yet she smiled. I felt deep remorse. I didn't want to break her heart but I did. With my heart filled with consternation I left saying sorry for my unwanted deed.

I know no matter how much I apologize, I can't make up for it. I left her at our reception. Our marriage already happened in a hurry and now this.

All because of the despicable meeting.

Adrian is not skilled enough to handle this and father is not in the condition to travel, that leaves me, I am also busy. I have to stay with my wife but no, my matters don't matter.

Evelyn was looking so alluring. I was left shunned when I saw her. She is an embodiment of beauty. Her captivating silver eyes, her fascinating looks.

She seemed like an angel. I want to pull her close and feel her warmth and adoration but something has to come.

I sighed and left with the deplorable feeling, triggered by this stupid work.

Evelyn POV:-

After Lawrence left, I excused myself and went to my room. I was so elated about today. I was thinking of telling Lawrence that just in a few days of our marriage I have fallen for him but my plans left hanging in my heart.

I entered the room and the absence of Lawrence in it, induced a terror of calm chaos in me. I got used to his presence.

We used to talk and tease each other and now he is gone and I am alone. I can do nothing but to feel the anguish burning inside me and let this feeling of censure out.

I looked at myself. My eyes show a hint of sadness. The feeling of dismay took over me as I began to look at my wedding ring and smiled a little.

The door knocked and Jane entered. She smiled and walked closer, "I know you're gonna cry. That's why I have asked Uncle and Aunt to let me stay here."

I passed a weak smile at her and began to say, "Marriage is a strange bond, isn't it? It provokes a feeling of immense fondness in you for the person you never thought you will.”

“You thought that it won't work, you can't do it but, in the end, you found yourself getting closer to that person and began to feel like nothing in this world can break our bond. It's an inexplicable feeling. But, it's the most precious feeling one can ever ask for.” I whispered.

Sharing the talks I wanted to tell Lawrence but he was no longer here and I wanted to tell anyone what I have begun to feel.

“I mean look at me, It's just a week of our marriage and what I used to feel about Adrian faded away like it never existed in the first place. I never thought this would happen but It did and I am truly grateful for it.” I chuckled.

“And Lawrence, He is the type of guy a girl desires. Sweet, Caring, Loving. You know, Since the first day of our marriage, I have begun to feel affection for Lawrence. I mean can you believe it? In one day.”

Shaking my head, I cannot believe how this was evoked but when he managed to invade my heart is something I don’t know myself.

“And I love it when he wears the dress I choose for him, he eats the breakfast I made for him. He never leaves saying goodbye to me. He says all those comfy things to me so that I won't stress.” I continued while Jane listened, not believing how my emotions changed so abruptly.

“I felt so fortunate to be bestowed by such a beautiful bond and I swear, I want my marriage to work and last forever. I will fulfill my duties as his wife and love him and only him. Because I am nothing without him and that's what I understood today..."

Finishing my sentence, I turned to Jane who was stunned for a bare second, not believing what I said.

Jane smiled at me and said, "You have changed so much, Evelyn. Like, I never thought this would happen. You, who used to cry almost every night, thinking about that damn guy and now, look at you. What a lady you have become."

I smiled and turned to the mirror to take off my jewelry.

"What are you doing?" Jane asked. "Taking off my jewelry."

"Why? The ceremony is still going."

"I don't want to go there when Lawrence isn't there. It'll end in an hour or so. I have also told Uncle and Aunt that I am not feeling well." She nodded and smirked at me.

"I can't stay where Lawrence isn't!" She spoke and burst into laughter.

"Yeah, So what about it?" I scoffed and began to struggle with my jewelry.

"It's just cute. Wait, I am coming to help you." I sighed as she came and helped me to take off my jewelry.

After changing, I and Jane laid on the bed. We face each other and giggle. It's been a while since we had a late-night conversation.

"What did he give you when he saw you for the first time as his wife?" Jane asked. I remembered that he had to give me a gift for seeing me for the first time as his wife.

"You know the circumstances we got married. So... He gave me nothing." I said with a hint of disapproval in my tone.

"That's no reason." She argued. I gave her my neutral look and she understood that If she asked me a question related to that I won't answer. She sighed in defeat and spoke up again,

"So? Have you..? " I gasped and shook my head 'no'.

She smirked and said, "Want some tips?" I smirked back and replied, "No thanks, Just three words are enough." We laughed a little.

"What three words?"

"I want you and he isn't gonna delay even for a second." "Sounds desperate." I sighed and said yes.

A silence fell upon us as I spoke up, "I am scared."

"Of what?"

"I am scared that if Lawrence came to know about my feelings for Adrian, I don't know how he would react. You know him, he is a possessive man." I whispered.

"Calm down. Nothing like this is gonna happen and you know Lawrence, he is such a chivalrous guy, I am sure he'll understand." I gulped and replied vaguely.

"I know, but his anger is something that terrifies me. Lawrence told me that he can't control his anger and can do unimaginable things." My heart began to beat fast just at the thought of it.

"Don't worry. If anything happens, I'll tell him that it's not like this anymore." She reassured me as I smiled.

Then we began to talk about trivial things and slowly fell asleep.

The next day, I woke up and saw Jane. I smirked and picked my slipper and rushed to Jane's side.

"Jane! Your father is calling! I have picked the call!" I shouted as Jane woke up in a panic and grabbed the slipper and put it in her ear.

"Hello? Father?" She spoke and soon realized that she's holding a slipper. I began to laugh out loud as she threw the slipper at me.

I dodged it and it was thrown out of the window. We both looked at each other and looked out and saw Adrian glaring at us with the slipper in his hand.

We both looked at each other and began to laugh hysterically.

It was funny.

After calming ourselves, I gave Jane my clothes because she can't wear that heavy dress of hers again.

We walked down and greeted everyone and sat down. Adrian looked at us as we began to laugh a little.

"What happened?" Uncle Ray asked.

"Nothing, ask Adrian," Jane said.

"I was greeted by my Sister-in-Law," He replied monotonously and we tried to hold our laughter. Everyone looked perplexed.

"By a slipper!" Danielle walked in as everyone looked at Adrian and began to laugh.

"Can't you shut your mouth Scorpion!' He growled at her.

"Why would I, Slipper?" she retorted and took a seat.

"You are the most annoying thing ever." He said angrily at Danielle.

"And you are the most irritating thing ever!" She hissed and Aunt Camila said,

"Enough, Danielle."

"But mom, he called me a scorpion."

"Because you are!" Adrian said.

"Adrian! Both of you stop it." Uncle Shawn scolded both of them as they scoffed at each other.

"They are always like this; at each other's neck," Jane said with a sigh as I nodded.

After eating in silence, Danielle spoke up,

"Evelyn, I have an idea for you."

"What?"

"Look, Brother wouldn't have left, If someone was skilled enough to handle the meeting." She said, referring to Adrian who rolled off his eyes and continued to eat.

"I mean, You can be angry at your brother and watch what he does to make things up for you." She offered as I thought about it for a second.

"But it's not his fault." I reason.

"It's just for fun." She insists.

"Do it, Evelyn. I also want to know how romantic he can be," Jane also persisted as I sighed in defeat.

And they all began to cheer.

I am sorry Lawrence, But I have to... Because I also want to see...
