Chapter 85: Chapter 85
ABUJA, NIGERIA.
"Bro, I think I'll leave now already." Fayha breathed, sitting down comfortably on the swiveling chair in front of him inside his office. The man's attention is entirely focused on what he is doing in his laptop, it doesn't annoy her anymore as she is used to it.
"You always want to leave home after your marriage, Fay." His words made her blush but she won't give up. She is not just going home that day because she wants to see her husband but because she is not feeling okay at all.
Her stepbrother, Hammad Bamalli is the definition of hardest nut to crack. She always wonder how his wife manage to break all those shells and got married to him. He hardly talks and when he does, it's either business or something serious is about to happen. Though when he was a kid, she could clearly remember how he joked around her a lot but as they grew, they separated due to school and so on. He still has a soft spot for her, always there when she needed him like all brothers out there or maybe even more.
He adores her, cares about her a lot. Enough for her to go throughout her childhood without trying to sought out any other male's attention but his. She bathed in the fact that she is his only sibling and they only have one another then their cousins. His mother died when he was just a baby, her family don't care much about him but his father's wealth so when he found out why they were with him, he stopped going to them. That was the main reason he started detaching himself from people. Those damn leeches ruined him!
But he loves his wife who is now seven months pregnant with a baby boy. Their love story is really funny to her because she can't begin to imagine her brother chatting off a stranger's ear in a train. That lady got tired of his talks and shush him up in the most harshest way, that is what got him to chase her. He traced her down, found her location, where she lives and what she does. From there, things became to expand and become more clear that love is about to blossom.
And they are happily married expecting a baby in a few months.
"Bro, stop insinuating anything about me wanting to leave. I'm just not feeling too good today, that's all." She swallowed a lump, something is stuck down her throat and this man will receive the end of some tantrum very soon if he doesn't give her the permission to leave. Granted, he is her stepbrother and she can leave whenever she wants to but she don't want to add to her already long pending list.
"Yeah, as if I should believe everything you say. Just because I own this company doesn't mean I should always grant you your wishes, Fay. People will start talking if they haven't already and one thing I don't like is being in scandals. Not even the ones in my own company." He finally rose his head to stare directly into her eyes making her gulp down extremely hard.
The guy is really serious this time around about not letting her leave. The one time she is telling the truth, is the time the guy don't want to allow her to leave. Ah, why is destiny trying to play such hard trick on her just when she desperately needed it by her side. She seriously feels sick, her whole body is weak and she can't even read what is on her laptop clearly. Her eyes were droopy, no doubt because she wasn't allowed to get much sleep yesterday might. Thanks to her husband!
"I understand, br-" She didn't get to finish saying that when she suddenly felt nauseous, she rushed to the bathroom quickly her brother trailing behind her while cursing for not believing that she is really sick. She looks a bit pale since a week ago so he thought it was normal.
"You are really sick. Let me give your husband a call so he can take you to the hospital, you are in no condition to drive yourself there." Hammad told her before grabbing his phone, not waiting for her to argue with him yet again. No matter how stern he is, he never plays with Fayha's health for she is very important to him.
"Why do you have to call him? I can just lie down here for a moment and then everything will be back to normal." She grumbled though half and quarter of her being is already looking forward to seeing her husband. That side of her that is always giddy to see him, that lovestruck part of her.
"I had to call him because you are obviously sick." He gave her a look that says 'do I even have to explain that' before continuing, "You might even be pregnant, Fay." He looked away after saying that. He is not sure but the symptoms are there in front of them so he had to talk. Always straightforward they say.
"What?" She blinked, her brain circulating around her skull before she finally wrap it around what he just spouted. Yeah, he really said she could be pregnant. "Are you now a doctor, bro?" Her question was sarcastic so she can take away the maladroit moment from her head.
"Maira's symptoms were similar to yours so I just assumed." He shrugged, adjusting her legs on the white leather sofa not bothering if she dirties it but she has no dirt on her feet too so it's calm. He would've still adjusted her if she had gutter there.
"Pregnancy have so many symptoms and some of us don't know what ours is. Vomiting isn't the main symptom of pregnancy, don't be delusional." Her heart is now beating erratically because the more she talked about it, the more believable it became. What the heck!
"I can't believe I'm actually talking to you about pregnancy." He made a look of disgust, she could only chuckle at that. The man tend to forget his manners whenever he is worried so it's alright. He is her brother after all, it's all okay.
"I can't believe that too but don't be shy, big bro, your wife is expecting. Issokay to talk about pregnancy with me since you already assume I have baby in here!" She point at her stomach just to hear her husband's question by the door. None of them heard the sound of door opening.
"Who is pregnant?" Mujaddad questioned, his eyes staring warily at the siblings as his heart thudded loudly in his chest. Darn, why did he ran all the way there when she is not on the verge of dying? He got worried when he heard her dry heaving on phone earlier as her brother talked about how ill she is. He thought... darn.
"No one." Fayha forced a smile then gave her brother a stern look meaning he should not say a thing to him. The guy can spurt out rubbish, she knows how men are with the news of pregnancy and babies and she wants his reactions to be seen by only her in the confines of their privacy.
"Okay... Shall we go? I've already booked an appointment with a doctor." Mujaddad ferried forward, offering her his hand but when she weakly try placing hers in his, he furrowed his brows before deciding to take her in his arms princess style.
"W-what are you doing?" She blushed seeing her brother raising an amused brow. It's not like she don't like being in his arms and PDA, just not in front of her brother or relatives.
"What does it look like?" Hammad mocked, his hands stuffed inside his pocket as he surveyed his stepsister and cousin. The couple don't look like they got married in an arranged way, they look too much in love for that. He is happy though, he objected when the news of the arrangement came to them.
"Shut up." Fayha pouted, wounding her arms around Mujaddad's neck to steady herself but not her heartbeat. Is he going down with her like this? People will keep staring at them, oh well.
"Yes, shut up, Hammad. Thanks for the call and bye bye." Mujaddad left the office without another word with his wife tugged in his arms like a koala bear. He smiled down at her seeing how she keeps on blushing as her coworkers bid her goodbye. She is just too cute, he swooned mentally.
Shortly, they arrive at his in-law's hospital, Alhaji Malik Masari's. He made his way to the man himself since he was there when he called to make an appointment, he agreed to check on his wife. It's just blood test so after her blood has been taken away to the laboratory by a nurse, Dr. Malik asked them to come inside his office so he can ask her a few questions. Fayha is nervous about what she is going to find out because just like her brother had said, she is starting to feel that she has mini her or her husband inside of her. Oh God!
"How have you been feeling for the past weeks?" The man is now fully in his doctor's mood and not their in-law so she gave her answer as professional as she could trying to keep her anxious side back.
"I've been good till yesterday when I got weak just before making dinner and then earlier when I threw up." She fidgeted because that word threw up had both her husband and the doctor perking up from their sits. She even saw him glaring at her when she said she was sick yesterday before dinner. She didn't tell him about it.
"What about your monthly period?" He inclined his head again. She's never talked about her period to Mujaddad not because she is shy but because it never got to that. Whenever she is seeing that nature, miraculously, he never approached her with anything sexual. She's once thought that he knew so she kept quite.
"I am expecting it tomorrow." This made her feel a bit better because she will be expecting her period tomorrow or the next. That is a chance that she is not pregnant but doesn't she want to be pregnant?
Before Dr. Malik could open his mouth again to ask her some other question, a knock came from the door, stopping him. "Come in." He hollered at the door instead then watch as the nurse ferried in holding a brown manilla envelope in her hand.
"What does it say, Uncle?" Fayha threw away the fact that she is now talking to a doctor and mistakenly call him uncle in her state of nervousness. She wring her fingers around Mujaddad's, he's been holding her hands throughout their time there.
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Mujaddad! You are three weeks pregnant." He smiled widely before sticking his hand to Mujaddad who unconsciously shook it before sitting back down on the chair, absent mindedly while absorbing the new information.
He prescribed some vitamins for her and gave them a book pregnant women are meant to go through of what and what they shouldn't do. The book is bulky, Fayha already decided that she won't read it at all or maybe just check here and there. Who would read all these because they are pregnant? Google exists for people like her and for a reason too.
Dr. Malik seeing the couple in their own train, stood up and left the office not knowing he was about to encounter the biggest shock of his life in a few hours. He just got married to Badriyah the week before and he was supposed to stay back home for another week like his mother had lovingly suggested but he couldn't. He is a doctor, Badriyah knew about it and will have to embrace that he won't always be home. He won't be there for every gathering cause his phone is always open for emergencies so is his time. He is a dedicated doctor!
"We are expecting a baby." Fayha leaped into Mujaddad's arms, tears cascading down her cheeks, tears of joy. Her heart thudded loudly in her ears due to fear, happiness and apprehension. The emotions in her are just going haywire!
"We are!" He wrapped his arms tightly around her as if holding onto the last pillar of support so he won't fall off. He knew he would've fallen had she not held onto him too and for the chair taking both their weight.
Thirty minutes of emotional turmoil, the couple stood up to leave the hospital after bidding adieu to Dr. Malik on their way. They didn't pay the bills because he said that is in the house, the good news. Fayha's eyes are puffy, someone might think she's lost her family or beloved. Mujaddad on the other hand is too excited for his own good. He's never been that enthusiastic in his whole life, maybe when he found out that his mother was pregnant with a baby girl who happens to be Bushra. He was tired of being with boys, he wanted a girl.
As soon as they reached home, Mujaddad started making calls on her behalf telling his sister so she could tell their parents. He can't do that himself! It'd be too awkward before he get to say the reason he called them. How can he say 'my wife is pregnant, we just found out' to his parents? Ha, his mother would laugh while his father will just keep quite like a statue then later join his wife and tell him just how brazen he is. He won't want to imagine that happening.
"Oh my...! Fay is expecting?" Bushra's gleeful voice took over the living room making Fayha smile. She knows the godmothers are going to be more excited than anyone, this is the first one showing her buoyancy.
"Isn't that what I said? Stop talking like Anaan and tell everyone, I can't do that." He sucked on his lower lip whilst staring at his wife's weak figure. She should relax and take a bath.
"Aw, is my bambino shy?" Bushra teased just before Mujaddad hung up the phone on her, the girl don't have filter sometimes.
"I think you should take a hot bath and relax while I go through this book. I know you won't touch it." He chuckled when she shrugged, he knows her too much in short amount of time. With his help again, she stood up and they made their way to the bathroom where he turn on the hot water in the tub and added some other bathing salt.
"Come join me." Fayha feels really weak and sleepy so she invited him inside the tub, her eyes are droopy. She can't risk being there all alone, she needs her husband with her too.
-
"You have a visitor who urgently wants to meet you, Dr. Malik." A nurse informed Alhaji Malik Masari urgently inside his office while staring outside as if something is about to jump on her bones which it is. She can't believe what she just saw outside, she's still in shock.
"Let him in, I'm free." He answered without looking up to see why the nurse sounds so out of place, timid, afeared, anxious and alarmed. He is more focused on his next surgery which will happen in just a few hours from then meaning he won't be going home.
"Sure." She left to send his so called guest so when he heard the familiar voice of none other than his son, he... Wait, his son?!
"Dad?" Alhaji Malik would've fallen down a cliff had he been standing close to one but since he was sitting on his chair, he fell into it in utter flabbergast and shock that took over his whole being. He almost had a heart attack but he easily controlled himself and stare at the person staring at him with uncertainty.
The person is none other than his son, Mika'il but he doesn't look the same. He has added a little weight, looks much more fairer and fresher than the last time he's seen him. As if he didn't go under the sun for a long time which he didn't neither was he working. He looks to be in good health too, as if nothing has ever happened to him. When everyone thought he was dead, even the father is still in state of shock thinking this is all a dream. This isn't the first time he's dreamt about his son so it's okay.
Hence, Alhaji Malik didn't react and just stared trying to take in his son. This feels a lot like reality though, his son has changed his appearance when in those dreams, it was the same Mika'il he knew. His brows furrowed in a deep frown meant for concentration, gauging to see whether he has started hallucinating now. But no, his son started walking towards his desk and even sat down on the chair in front of him as if all is well in the world.
As if seeing someone whom you thought is dead but is apparently sitting in front of you is normal!
"Father?" Mika'il called again, his heart bleeding seeing as the man is not willing to answer him. Was he stupid and crazy for coming directly there without contacting him? Is he hundred percent sure they will accept him?
He hasn't been himself the last time they've being together, he was under the influence of the drugs he didn't know he's consumed. Maybe he did something shameful that his father don't want to find out but then again, he was reported dead.
"Mika'il?" His father gulped, eyes narrowed to the point where all the whites can't be seen but the darkness of his eyeballs. His brain is trying to circulate what is going on so Mika'il gave him the time to do so.
"Yes, I'm here, Dad. I am not dead." He reassured, tasting the bitterness of his judgement in his mouth. How can he just talk about his death like this? He was never dead ,nor was he in an excruciating pain for him to feel like that.
"What happened?"
