Chapter 27: Chapter 27
As soon as the taxi stopped in front of the hospital, Celeste opened the door and got out of the taxi. She then opened her purse and took out some money before paying the taxi driver.
She then looked at the tall building standing in front of her. St. Joseph Hospital. She sighed and looked at her stomach before placing a hand on it. Smiling, she made her way inside the hospital. Meanwhile her heart was racing with anticipation. She thanked God for listening to her and giving her this little hope.
She had been feeling nauseous for the past 3 days. She couldn’t stand the smell of certain foods and her period hadn’t arrived yet when it should have arrived 10 days before. Nausea, Morning sickness and late period. It could only mean only one thing.
She was pregnant. With her and Liam's child. God had finally decided to take mercy in her. He had finally decided to end her sufferings and give her a little happiness by the form of a child.
Her and Liam's child. This thought made her jump in happiness. Liam might not be with her but his child would always be there. Finally she isn't alone in this world anymore. Soon there would be someone she could call her own. Thinking of all the possibilities her heart burst open with happiness. But at first she had to confirm it from a doctor. She smiled at herself in encouragement and reached the receptionist's desk.
"Excuse me?" She called out. The receptionist was a young male. He smiled at her before answering her.
"Yes ma'am. How can I help you?" He asked in a gentle voice. He was a handsome young man with ages around 30 to 35. Celeste smiled at him.
"I want to have a pregnancy test." Celeste informed her. The man nodded and took out a form for her.
"Do you have an appointment?" He asked while looking up at Celeste. Celeste bit her lips and shook her head.
"No. I would like to have one. Could you please help me by getting me an appointment with a gynecologist? It's urgent." Celeste pleaded with him with her eyes. She hoped she would not have to return home because of not booking an appointment before.
"Sure. Don't worry. Just fill out this form." The receptionist said while handing Celeste a form. Celeste heaved a sigh and took it from him. She filled it with all the information carefully and then handed it back to him. The receptionist took it from her and then handed her a token with the serial number after a while.
"Your Serial number is 13 and you will be under Dr. Avalon Smith. Good luck." The receptionist said with a smile. Celeste took the tokan from him.
"Thank you." She said with a smile before turning around to sit in the waiting area. There were many other pregnant women present. She looked at them and their different sizes of belly bumps. Her heart bloomed with hope as she looked at her stomach.
She prayed to God to give her a child to bring her out of the darkness he himself had put her in.

"Celeste Rivera?" Celeste was lost in her thoughts when someone called out her name. She turned around and looked up to find it was a middle aged nurse.
"That's me." She said while getting up. The nurse nodded at her with a smile.
"Please follow me." The nurse said and turned around. Celeste slowly followed her inside a room which seemed like a lab. Soon the nurste laid her down and collected her blood sample. She sent Celeste to collect her urine sample. Later Celeste was again put into a bed for a Sonogram test. The whole time Celeste closed her eyes and prayed to God desperately for a child.
When everything was done she was informed to wait outside in the resting area again. After almost one year she was called to the doctor's chamber. With shaky hands she pulled open the door of the doctor's chamber. Dr. Avalon Smith who was looking at some reports looked up and smiled at her.She smiled back before making her way towards her.
"Good morning, Ms. Rivera. Please have a seat." The doctor said with a friendly smile on her face.
"Good morning. Thank you." Celeste said while sitting across the doctor.
"Are you alone here, Ms. Rivera?" The doctor asked while checking Celeste's reports.
"Yes." Celeste said with a tight smile. Who else would accompany her? She had no one. Celeste thought bitterly.
"So you have had a pregnancy test." The doctor started off. Celeste nodded.
"Yes." She replied.
"Okay. I need to ask you a few questions. Hope you could answer them accurately." The doctor said with a smile while placing her both hands on the table.
"Sure." Celeste said nervously. Her heart was beating so fast that she was afraid that the doctor could also hear it.
"So why did you assume you are pregnant? Are there any pregnancy symptoms? And when did you have your last period and sexual intercourse?" Doctor Smith asked her the questions one by one at the same time and waited for her to answer. Celeste smiled and took a deep breath before answering.
"Uhmm I last had sex about more than one and half month ago and had my last period a few days before my last sexual intercourse. I haven’t gotten my period yet and recently I have been feeling nausea while eating a few certain foods and also having morning sickness." Celeste explained in one breath. Dr. Smith nodded and then passed her a smile.
"Alright. I have checked your reports and you are not pregnant. You might have suffered some eating and sleeping disorder causing you these problems. Also sometimes periods get delayed because of not eating properly. You need to eat and sleep properly otherwise your reports are all normal. I'm prescribing you some vitamins. Make sure to-" The doctor couldn’t finish her sentence as she heard a loud noise. She stopped writing and looked up to find Celeste abruptly getting up from her chair and running out of the room. She doctor also got up and shouted her name from behind.
"Ms. Rivera! Ms. Rivera! Wait!" The doctor called out but Celeste didn’t stop. She kept running until she came out of the hospital. She could hear the doctor's word ringing through her head like a bell
You are not pregnant!
You are not pregnant!
You are not pregnant!
All the hope she had built got shattered just by that one sentence. God didn’t take pity one her, instead he became more cruel. Giving her hope and then snatching it away from her mercilessly. Celeste laughed. She laughed for her ill fate. She laughed at being so unlucky. Then all of sudden she started to cry. She cried until no tears were left. She didn’t have any energy to tolerate those pains. Her hurt already felt numb; she felt as if it was going to burst open any time.
Why God why?
What did she do wrong?
What's her fault?
Why was God testing her?
Why was he being merciless towards her?
Why?
