Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Due to my firm hold on the tray, the food didn't spill, and that made the girl snort at me.
At that instant, I was filled with anger. Although I promised not to cause trouble on my first day of resumption, that doesn't mean I'll let people keep bullying me.
I was about to face her when a loud bell reverberated in the whole cafeteria, or, should I say, the whole school, which got all of our attention.
'A new announcement. The school board had made a new rule: from now on, all the students will live in the hostel. Also, students are only allowed to return on weekends. And this new rule applies to everyone, no matter their identity or status. Thank you.'
After the voice repeated the announcement three times, it finally came to silence, and by now everyone was whispering to themselves.
The hell! I clenched my fist hard to suppress the chaotic emotions that came after listening to the announcement.
I had the inkling that that sly Alpha Oswald must've been the one to do these sorts of things. He must've deliberately made such rules to have a leash on me.
The closeness Wyatt and I are having must have been getting on his nerves. No wonder he allowed me to study at the power axis school, although it's not sure that he wouldn't be sending me out in the end. This is such a well-cooked plan! He's really eliminating every closeness that I'll be having with any man.
'This must be related to her. It was when she arrived at school that things began to change.'
'Ugh, so frustrating. Does that mean I won't have to play? I hate her so much, I want to strangle her.'
'Does that mean I won't have the chance I've been dreaming of with Asher's love? That weak omega is just a curse to this pack.'
I lowered my head in indifference to their comments. I'm not related to them, and they are not related to me either; why should I let their words affect me?
Besides, I'm here to train not to have a friend, so they can fuck themselves.
Moreover, they could only whisper among themselves; none of them dared to walk toward me.
Lorelei suddenly stood up, which made the whole cafeteria go silent. Before we could all process what was happening, she strode out of the cafeteria without glancing at anyone.
Immediately after Lorelei left, the whispering began again, intensely.
'It must all be that weak Omega's fault that Alpha made such rules. It's all because of her that Luna is included. Poor Luna.'
I tuned out the noise and found myself an empty table and chair in the sixth line to sit at. Somehow, the appetite I had decreased a lot. I bit my lower lips and clenched my fist.
That stupid mate! How dare he do this to me? Ugh! I've never felt so frustrated as I did with Oswald. Why won't he let me...
'Wait! Something is wrong!' Maia suddenly cried out, which made my tense nerves loosen a little.
I frowned slightly and paid attention to her. If Maia says something is wrong, then something is. "What is?" I inquired while trying to keep my anger at bay.
"If this rule applies to all the students, does that mean Lorelei is also included?" Maia asked, and that made me roll my eyes.
'Who knows?' I shrugged in boredom. Lorelei had left the cafeteria immediately. Perhaps she intends to talk to her husband. Perhaps her husband will exclude her from the law. Sweet couple.
'If it's then that's good for us. That bitch will finally let go of my mate.' Maia uttered in a casual, harmless voice yet filled with possessiveness for her mate.
I rolled my eyes at Maia's possessive words and decided to tease her. I tucked a stray hair in between my ears and picked up my cutlery. "What if Oswald is the one hoarding Lorelei, just like he's doing to us…"
"Nonsense!" Maia interrupted angrily. "That's not possible. We're the special ones to him, and that's why he's being like this." She defended herself imperiously, which made me roll my eyes and snort at her.
Haven't you discovered that something is amiss?" Maia suddenly raised a cheerful voice.
The hand that was about to lift the spaghetti Bolognese froze in midair before I returned it to the plate. "What is?"
"We don't feel any pain." Maia articulated, which made my brows furrow in bewilderment.
"What pain?" I questioned her, and she rolled her eyes.
"Stupid. The mate's pain. Ever since that night at Luna Queen's place when Oswald kissed that bitch in our presence, we haven't felt any mate pain since then." Maia explained carefully, and that's when I realized that she was telling the truth.
I nodded upon hearing her words. I can't believe that I haven't even thought about this. No wonder Maia is always unfazed when it comes to her mate; it turns out that she knows many things.
If I could remember the expression on Oswald's face that morning, it seems Oswald seemed uncomfortable upon hearing that Lorelei was on her way.
Could it be that the two were fighting? Was that the reason the law was made? Does that mean this law wasn't related to me in the first place? I frowned at the unknown, so I decided to ask Maia about it.
"You're right, Maia. Do you think they're…"
Before I could continue my discussion with Maia, a girl dressed in a black tee and black baggy jeans coupled with a wide-rimmed glass, which I knew was fake, sat down next to me and placed her tray on the table.
“Hi, Maia. You pretty much made everyone your enemy before you arrived. How nice.” The girl tutted at me with a childish smile on her face.
I eyed her suspiciously, wondering what she wanted. In fact, none of the ladies had approached me since I stepped into the power axis school, so I had no hope of befriending any of them throughout my stay here or perhaps in the meantime.
Now that I've seen one of them approach me on her own, I can't help but think that she must be one of Lorelei's cliques who intend to trick or play me while donning a calm facade. Well, if that's it, then I'm ready to play.
I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear and casually scooped up one of the meals. “It's only about them envying me; I don't put them in mind. Jealousy is a disease.” Completing my words, I smirked and placed the spoonful of the meal into my mouth before chewing elegantly. I paid no attention to her or tried to look at her expression, which I presume must be ugly by now.
“I like your mindset; can we be friends?” Contrary to my thoughts, the girl spoke in a cheerful tone, which prompted me to raise my head to look at her.
Upon taking a look at her face, I couldn't help thinking that she looked a bit familiar.
