Chapter 78: Chapter 78
I arrived at the meeting point indicated by Jessy but he was not there. It is well worth making a fuss and making me hurry to come when he is not there.
What weighs me even more in this story is the fact that I not only lied to my boss but right after, when my alpha came to inquire about my condition, I dared to lie to him as well. I feel really bad, but I had no choice.
I have a very specific goal and even if his way of telling me it is not correct, Jessy is right about one fact.
I have to focus on the real reason that brought me to this town. For my parents, I have to act like a dignified daughter.
It was daytime but the forest behind me was so spooky that it was scary. Last time, I didn't notice it but now that I'm alone and have nothing else to think about, not like when I admired Jessy, I can see how gloomy and scary this forest looks.
The wind whistling through the treetops gives it even more drama as I wrap my arms around my body in fear.
Where the hell is Jessy?
I was shaking with fear when I heard footsteps coming towards me and turning with a start, I found Jessy looking at me with a smile.
" Oh, you came…"
He said it like I wasn't going to do it and he expected it. I don't like the way he talks to me like I'm a brainless kid.
" Yes, I came. Now, tell me what you have to tell me. I have to go back to work…"
Jessy frowned before shaking his head.
" Come, let's go to a safe place…"
I didn't have time to speak as he had already started walking, leaving me no choice but to follow him. I don't like his manners but yet he holds me in his yoke. Who would have thought that Jessy was hiding such a repulsive character, he who has always been so kind and considerate with me? Indeed, he could also be daring when I lived with Tom and him but it was not like that.
I don't know what his point is today but it makes me feel uncomfortable and it's starting to puff me up. We walked like this for a little while and contrary to what I thought, we did not go in the direction of the last time, where the members of the Shield of Rain are hiding. No, this time although we entered this cursed forest, we did not take the same path if my memories are correct. I followed Jessy in silence for almost ten more minutes and finally, we were in front of an abandoned cabin. The walls and floor were in poor condition and I don't think anyone could live there.
" Where are we?"
" In a small warehouse darling…"
What was this more than an enigmatic answer? And not to mention the fact that when he calls me honey, his voice sends shivers down my spine. Have I ever felt this about him once? Why do I feel like everything about Jessy looks sneaky and dangerous to me? I still remember the words of my inner wolf when he told me not to trust him because something was wrong with him. Did the fact that I got along almost entirely with my wolf side alter my vision of Jessy? I can't answer it but I must not forget that this boy helped me when I found myself alone in this city. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing...
We entered the cabin and Jessy came forward lifting a plank off the floor. It was a hidden trap door and I discovered a ladder that led down to an unknown place but it was so dark that I took a step back, not wanting to enter.
" Follow me, Sophia, it's not safe to stay here especially since this place must remain secret."
I gulped as Jessy disappeared into that hole, I took a deep breath deciding to muster up my courage. I came looking for information so I shouldn't stop here because fear has me stuck in my place. Slowly, I followed Jessy in this trap, and step by step, I arrived at the bottom of this abyss. Immediately, I don't know by what mechanism, the hatch closed on my head, making me jump in fear while Jessy lit a torch.
"It's this way."
" But where are we and where are we going? Are we in a place related to the Shield of Rain? Or is it a place where you do your business…"
Jessy smiled before speaking.
" A bit of both…"
I frowned at his response, how is it a bit of both? If it's a place under the Shield of Rain then Tom shouldn't be concerned given his ties to Elsa. Even though he took Jessy in after his parents died, he wouldn't dare do business with a pack that was sentenced to death.
But since it's their business, it's normal that Tom participates because he's sort of Jessy's boss.
" Stop fiddling with your head in vain, you wouldn't understand unless I explained to you."
I got angry at the insult before speaking.
" I don't care about this place, I want the information you promised me."
" Patience, I am not one of those who do not keep their word, you see…"
He gave me a subjective look when I had the impression that these words were aimed at me. It automatically pissed me off.
" Never mind."
We arrived in front of a huge mirror and I looked at Jessy wanting to understand what we were doing there when he knows what I want from him.
" Where are we and what do we do there?"
" Well, I'll tell you what you want but first I want to show you something."
" What?"
* What we found with the Shield of Rain to be able to compete with the power of the Soul Moons but especially their Alpha... Sophia, I'm showing it to you because I know I can count on your help. Before giving you the name of this man, I want you to understand the validity of this approach, ours. This man is so powerful, you cannot imagine how many alphas he has already killed because they wanted to challenge him. He is so strong that he makes us all tremble, Sophia, you are valiant and courageous but that is not enough to face this man. He will tear you down, and crush you like a fly unless you have a plan or in our case a secret map."
I looked at Jessy and the way he spoke of that man seems to show him like one hell of a piece indeed. I had never thought about it before but if the Soul Moon Alpha dominates the other Alphas, it's because he outclasses them in strength and power. I overestimated my skills.
" And what is this secret card?"
Jessy nodded before speaking.
" You must first promise me to join our cause. Even if you live in Elsa's house, you must not forget that you belong to the Shield of Rain and that you must help restore our reputation."
I frowned, yes I am a Shield of Rain by birth on my mother's side but I don't feel like being a member of this pack. But I feel like if I say what I think, I won't get the information I want. Well, let's play the game.
" Yes, I am a Shield of Rain and I will do everything to restore our reputation for my mother, for her honor and to avenge my parents of these odious Soul Moon."
I looked at Jessy hoping he liked my answer and he seemed pleased.
" Well look."
The light was turned on on the other side of the mirror and I could see people tied up. They were probably people Jessy had kidnapped when they arrived in Capital City as he had wanted to do with me.
" These are…"
" Humans that we will use to serve our cause... We will conduct mutation experiments on them to create a new breed of hybrid mutants…"
I swallowed, it was aberrant and monstrous what Jessy was saying there, but I already knew that he was trafficking in human beings without knowing what he intended them for. But this is awful.
I looked at these poor people and my blood froze when I recognized one of them.
" Stacy."
