Chapter 13: Chapter 13
I looked at Jessy lost, what else did he want? It's true, I have nothing to blame him for and above all seeing him again is a real pleasure for me, but now that his boss, who is incidentally my grandfather, has rejected me, promising me death if we were to see each other again, imagine he would have followed the man's wishes and not approach me again.
" What are you doing here ? I mean you heard your boss didn't you?"
Jessy smiled before taking my suitcase.
" I followed what the chef said and I found it unfair. It's true that your mother's past actions have led to the ruin of our pack but from there to hunt you for that, you his only family and who also finds you alone, frankly he exaggerates. For my own, I am not of his opinion, your mother certainly had responsibilities but she also had her own life to lead. If she fell in love and chose to live this love instead of locking herself in a restrictive union, I have nothing to say about it. And who tells him by the way the Soul Moon alpha had taken the case that even after the union he wouldn't have flaunted his cruelty like he did? This man is an unpredictable monster."
I nodded as Jessy stepped in front of me.
" For the moment there is no point in discussing it too much. I decided to help you and I know that you will really need it."
" Oh yes? Would you really do that for me?"
" Yes."
He is perfect
** Calm down I told you it's not him **
I sighed to my wolf before following Jessy who had started walking
" Where are you taking me this time?"
" Don't worry, I don't intend to play a dirty trick on you this time, you told me that you were hungry and that you needed a place to live. But the most important thing is that you have to do your coming of age ceremony if what I think is true soon. You need an elder to help you with that, and I think I know someone who can."
" Really ? Oh thank you."
Jessy smiled as he turned his face looking sad. He wrinkled his face deciding to focus on the path as Sophia casually walked behind him.
We walked forward and soon we were in front of a rather old tavern. There really was a demarcation between the glamorous and heavenly side of Capital City and the slums that were part of its dark side.
Jessy noticed my face and sighed.
"This is the waste that the authorities of this city strive to destroy. It even seems to me that the town hall has decided to take more drastic measures and has issued an eviction order to the inhabitants. They will destroy the ghetto in a few weeks, but the inhabitants have nowhere to go.
" Are they lycans?"
" Not here in Capital City, humans and other creatures live side by side without the first ever knowing the existence of the second. In this ghetto there are more humans in fact and despite that we live in a peaceful cohabitation."
" But you... I mean you're not hidden? You're a..."
" My parents were, but when it was necessary to protect myself I was given to the owner of this tavern who adopted me as his son. Result nobody really knows that I am what you know and I can walk down the street as a packless like my adoptive father."
" Without a pack?"
"Yes solitary."
I just nodded all this information too huge for me with an empty stomach. We entered the tavern which was empty and a man in his fifties appeared. He had long hair tied back and scars on his face and body from what little I could see on his forearms whose shirt was pulled up to the elbow.
"Jessy? You're okay?"
" Yes Tom, this is Sophia Carpenter and she's one of us."
The man looked at me for a moment before nodding his head.
" indeed it is a lycan even if it is still a child. I, who asked you to go find us goods, you bring me work."
I frowned wondering what that meant. I was sure Jessy was smuggling and he's not the only one in this network. It's quite a chain, he just takes care of identifying potential targets and attracts them to their hideout.
" Jessy?"
I looked at the latter questioningly as he looked away. He seemed embarrassed when he started talking.
"It's the only way for us to survive in this cruel city. This is where we die. In Capital City everyone does their best to survive and not far from that enchanting impression you had when you arrived, the realities of this city are much darker and crueler. Capital City is a reflection of the darkness of living beings, so since you will now have to live there, you will have to gain maturity and no longer let yourself be led by the nose in this city. Don't be so naive to begin with."
I lowered my head not imagining what I discovered when I arrived in this city. I had thought that the only thing that could have hit me here would be a certain blockage in front of my family but not that I was totally rejected.
Now I learn that I will have to live with traffickers? I could decide to leave but I will be on my own and in this place where I don't know who is who, I am sure to be killed.
" I want to know... What do you do with the people you lure..."
Jessy walked over to sit on the counter.
" They are sold to rich and influential people. What they do with it is totally unknown to us."
I could have yelled, howled and complained about their inhumanity, but I don't know anything about their life, I don't know anything about them, who am I to judge them? I just sighed before looking up.
" Should I do the same to live with you?"
"Nope. You don't have to."
I sighed reassured before looking at Tom who had already lit a cigarette.
I who had planned my life to the millimeter, I would have gone to this training school, had my diploma and would have become a flight attendant, I would certainly have ended up parting with Chad since I will always be in air flights. stranger or frolicking with a super sexy flight attendant on the plane, I would have had a pretty free life sending letters to my mom from time to time.
I don't know if I would have had children, I would certainly have ended my life without them.
But for the past few days, my life has taken a completely different path, quite opposite to what I had imagined, with frightening and tragic situations and an uncertain future.
What else does the future hold for me?
" Well ... For now what I want is to be able to move into adulthood smoothly. Can you help me, Mr. Tom?"
The man blew a large puff of smoke from his mouth before looking at me and speaking.
" Since it was Jessy who took you, I think I can do something for you without compensation."
I smiled, obviously I have to get used to it. In this town nobody is generous, everything has a price and I'm just lucky that Jessy was there to help me.
" Come I'll show you your room"
I nodded following Jessy upstairs while behind us Tom looked at my back his serious face.
When we got far enough, he picked up his phone before making a call.
"Yes sir, she is there. Yes I will do as you wish."
Tom hung up as he sighed wondering who this girl really was so this man came straight to him asking for a 'favor'. He wonders if he shouldn't ask the girl directly, but if he does it's obvious he's signing his death warrant.
On the other side, a man had just hung up in front of the serious gaze of his assistant. His face was cold as he wondered why the girl took so long to walk up to Tom when he thought he heard the man's protege had already accosted her.
"I just hope that man didn't try to do something else to her."
"I don't think so sir.
The man just nodded before smiling.
" Soon we will see each other again."
