Emily received a call that early morning. When she reached for her phone, astonishment and curiosity was written all over her face. The number was unknown and also from overseas specifically from her country. Philippine time is six hours ahead from Spain.

While yawning Emily answered the call. “Who is this?”

“It’s me.” That voice which she never wanted to hear ring in her ears like Emily was in a nightmare.

“What do you want? In already did everything you asked.” Emily was about to burst in tears.

“Yes, you did but Federico still refuses to get back together with me. So, I doubt it if you really did everything that I told you to do so, you b*tch.” Lindsay shouted angrily on the other line.

“I have done everything that you asked me I swear. Federico’s decisions are beyond my control. I can’t do anything if he doesn’t want to reunite with you. This has nothing to do with me.” Emily was really frustrated.

“You must do something, otherwise, your parents and siblings will pay the price. Federico just forbids me to come near him and his son. HE put a restraining order against me, just so you know. How am I going to persuade him if I can’t even go near him you who*re. You really are underestimating what I can do. Would you like a sample?” she laughs evilly which terrified Emily.

“No, please Lindsay I will do everything you want me to do.” Emily begged.

She started to cry but swallow her sobs. She doesn’t want to give Lindsay the satisfaction of letting her know that she was afraid of her. She will triumph and will even scare her more. Lindsay was targeting her weakness. Emily wanted to regret of being so careless in the past. She should have been more cautious.

“Think of a way that Federico will change his mind and will get back together with me. Don’t you dare make it sound like I was the one who ordered you to convince him to make up with me.” With that she hung up.

Emily’s head throb. How was she supposed to do that? Call Federico and ordered him to get back together with Lindsay? That would be so obvious that it was that cunning woman who made her do it and her true colors will be expose to Federico.

When she thinks of the possibility of what will Lindsay will do to her vulnerable parents, she shuddered. She can’t even bring herself to accept the idea that she will give them terrible death just like what she did to her boyfriend. Emily cried and cried.

She had avoided David since she received that call from that devil woman. It has been almost a month since they talked and Emily feels like she was about to go crazy. She can’t sleep and she has no appetite to take in some food. She can’t concentrate in her job as well which lead her to a suspension. Marcy has been worried about her. After her class, she would visit Emily and she accompanies her during weekend.

“What is wrong Emmy? Please tell me.” Marcy asked as she patted Emily’s head.

“Nothing Marcy. I’m okay.” Emily just shakes her head.

“You clearly are not. Don’t like to me. Come on and tell me.” Marcy was not convinced with her answer.

So far, she has been in contact with her family and they are doing well. But Emily still can’t be at peace thinking that one day Lindsay will attack. Emily doesn’t know what to do. She was really confused and has no idea where she would run to. She can’t run to David that is one thing that she was certain. She can’t anger that woman. Emily was even more afraid now that David knows the truth behind her running away from Federico.

She was scared that David will reveal the truth to the Altagracia and also will tell the truth about Lindsay. Emily was at great loss. Marcy hugged her as that is the only way she knows that her friend will feel better. She can tell that there was a huge burden that she has been carrying in her shoulder. She understands that Emily don’t want to share it with her since they know each other for only several months. She feels Emily’s shoulders shaking after that Marcy feels that part of her shirt on the back of her shoulder got damped. It only means one thing; Emily is crying silently.

“Just let it all out Emmy. After crying you will feel better. At least, it will lighten that heavy feeling that you have in your heart. MY shoulders might not look strong but they are. You can lean on them anytime.” Marcy consoled Emily by caressing her hair.

Emily poured all the hurt in Marcy’s shoulders. It was like she was getting strength from her slender shoulders. Marcy was hurt seeing Emily break down. She keeps on telling her that everything will be all right while rubbing her back.

When she recovered, she told Marcy everything. She was furious and fells the urge to kill Lindsay. She was the one who cheated on Federico and caused their relationship to fell apart. She has another boyfriend to begin with and works together with him to trick Federico.

All she did was vicious and wicked. Now, she was acting like she was the one who was wronged and that Emily steal her man away. It was not her fault that Federico doesn’t want Lindsay anymore though he already broke up with Emily.

“Emmy, in my opinion, it is best that you work together with man you mentioned. Dr. Merchant you said?”

“Do you think that would be the best? I am really scared.” Emily said in daze.

“Yes, it is a lot safer than not doing anything. Federico clearly gives up on you. He doesn’t care about you anymore since he really believed all the things you told him. He has no idea about your family being in danger and that his ex was torturing you. David is your last hope to put an end to all if this.” Marcy convinced Emily.

Emily went silent for a while. Then realization hits her. Marcy was indeed right. She should out an end to all of this. She should not let herself be a slave to Lindsay’s blackmailing and tolerate all her schemes. She changed her mind and nodded at Marcy.

“Thank you, Marcy. I will follow your advice.” Emily said.
