Chapter 47: Chapter 47
Emily just got back to her apartment after her class for that day. She feels very exhausted but nothing compares to the burden that she feels inside her heart. She was like she had fallen into an abys of agony. Her bottomless eyes staring blankly as tears keep falling endlessly after a while.
She misses her child so much let alone his father. She wanted to hug them so tight. Emily misses how Rick clings onto her, she misses his childish coquettish voice whenever he asks her for food and how he obediently follow whatever she says. She misses how the father and son duo looks so satisfied with the food that she prepares for them.
She wants to go to Federico and tell him the truth. She had loved no one but him. She never thinks of sucking up his money and made her buy costly and branded woman stuff like a gold digger would always do. Never in her wildest dreams did she think of using him to gain money and to taste luxurious life.
Just when she was sobbing her phone rang. It was a call form her co-teacher. Emily tries to fix herself especially her voice before picking up the call.
“Hey Marcy, what’s up?”
“Emmy, are you free tonight? Our co teachers are going to the club to have fun and steam off.” With great enthusiasm, Marcy her co-teacher said.
“I’m sorry, Marcy. But I don’t feel like going out tonight.” She declined the invitation immediately.
“Don’t be such a boring killjoy. You are only on your early 20’s come on. You are not young forever Emmy. Make the best out of life, you are behaving like an old grumpy old maid. Let yourself go girl and have fun sometimes.” Marcy lectured her over the phone.
How can she have fun when she was hurting? Even moving is like so hard to do. She wanted to laugh hearing Marcy’s scolding. She was behaving like a grumpy old maid. She has a son whom she was missing right now and a man she loves who hates her but they were thousands of miles away from her.
“I’m not feeling well, Marcy. I think I’m going to be sick. I need to rest over the weekend otherwise I’m afraid that I won’t be able to handle my class this coming Monday if this comes worst.” She made an alibi so just to shut Marcy.
But Emily was mistaken, the woman even pesters her more. “What? I’m coming over right now.”
“No, you don’t have to Marcy. I just need rest. You have to go to the party and enjoy.” Emily said but the person on the other line already hung up the phone in panic.
Emily exhaled sharply. Her intention was to be alone which is why she turned down the invitation and made an excuse by saying that she was not feeling well so she could get rid of Marcy. But instead, she made the woman worry and came all the way to her place.
Marcy also came from the same country as Emily. The moment she met Marcy, they initially clicked and become good friends. She was thankful to meet a sweet girl such as Marcy. She reminded Emily of her best friend Kimberly who never left her side.
“Emmy, it’s me Marcy.” A knock snapped Emily from her thoughts.
She lazily opened the door and the worried face of Marcy greeted her.
“I bought you some meds for fever. How are you feeling?” Marcy stretched her hand and placed the back of her hand on Emily’s forehead and neck.
“I didn’t say that I had a fever. It is just that I feel heavy and don’t like moving around.” Emily explained.
Marcy’s forehead knotted in annoyance. “So, you are not sick at all. You just feel lazy.”
“I think so.” Emily shrugged her shoulders.
“Ah! You are so annoying Emmy. Why don’t we just go outside and have fun? You will get bored imprisoning yourself here in this boring apartment. You will then have an illusion that you are not well when the truth is you are just bored and homesick. Baby, we are working overseas far from our family, so which is why we need to distract ourselves from missing them and the way to get rid of homesickness us to party. We will have fun and we are going to do that with our fellow countrymen. I am bringing you to a community which I just discovered a few hours a go after my class.” Marcy’s eyes twinkled.
“A community?” Emily’s curiosity finally got awaken.
“Yes, a Filipino community. There are large of Filipinos working here in Spain and you need to meet them. We are sharing the same cultures and you will feel like you are home far away far from when you are with them. I know you are lonely because you are missing your family and I know how that feels. So, come on. You will really get sick for real if you continue this.” Marcy held Emily’s hands as she said those convincing words to her.
Emily smiled bitterly. “I wish it was as simple as missing my family.”
A look of astonishment flashed in Marcy’s face as she asked. “What do you mean Emmy? Tell me, I somehow can help you out.”
“It’s a long story Marcy.” Emily sighed to ease up the heavy feeling in her heart.
“I’m all ears. I guess I will just have to stay here tonight. What do you think? We will have a slumber party. Just the two of us. Have you heard a party that there are only two people involved?” Marcy said in a sarcastic way made Emily laughed.
“That’s fine with me, Marcy.” Emily agreed.
She was really not into partying anyway. Marcy then grabbed Emily towards her kitchen as if Marcy owns her apartment. It was the first time that Marcy got to her apartment while Marcy had invited her multiple times in her apartment for lunch or dinner.
The two cooked dinner together and have a good chit chat while dining. They watched a movie. Afterwards, when they are about to go to bed the two shared their personal life, how they got themselves into working in Spain and the kind of life that they left behind in their homeland.
Marcy was devastated hearing Emily’s story. She wanted to kill Lindsay and she was mad at Federico as well. How can he not investigate the truth behind Emily’s words when he has all the money and influence to do so? She really felt bad for her co-teacher but her admiration for her went high to the top of how strong Emily is and how selfless she can be just to protect the people she loves. She can put herself aside without any hesitation.
