Chapter 74: Chapter 74

She woke up with a smile playing on her swollen face. She looked beside her and couldn't spot her Hayatee, she squirmed and placed down her swollen legs on the cold marbled floor, unable to lift up herself to her feet.

Slowly, with aplomb, she stood to her feet and held her waist, it was too hard to even breath well, nor walk in a normal way. She's due in this week, and her EDD says today or tomorrow, and she could feel all the load of the baby being dropped on her frail legs.

Adyan usually helps her with walking, eating and all the things that requires her energy. She hummed out a breath and walked to the toilet in Adyan's room, because they're now back in Mom's house, since when the pregnancy was nine months along.

She eased herself and walked over the wash basin to brush her teeth. Looking at herself, she almost let out a scream, but she held herself and a laughter erupted out of her mouth. There were different colours painted on her face, there was pink, blue and red, some colours she couldn't even point out.

She placed her hand on the lines she could read out, with a wide grin dancing to the tune of happiness. The first line on her forehead reads, "I can't wait to see you, Mum!" she laughed, Adyan will never grow up.

There were different lines, and sge started reading them out loud. "Tomorrow by this time, I'll be with you Ammi!"

"Cry no more, your angel will soon arrive!"

"Kiss my Papa on the lips, he loves you so much!"

"I know I'd be pretty like you!"

"I love you so much, Ammi!" She was laughing hysterically now, all she could think of was Adyan's forever charming face when he was painting her face and she was drowned in her La-la land.

She got her cupped hands brimful of water, but had a change of mind that made her trudged out of the bathroom to get her phone. She took the phone and walk back into the room, lifted up the phone and started taking some selfies.

She brushed her teeth, took her bath and walked out of the bathroom with heavy steps. Only Allah knows how much of a weight this pregnancy put in her, she was only trying not to appear as a lazy woman.

She was dressing up in her usual gowns Mum sew for her when Adyan walked into the room with a smile all over his handsome face. She looked at him through the mirror and smiled, the kind of smile that always make him swoon.

"Good Morning, Rania. I love the smile on your face, bother to lend me your lips for a moment?" And he planted a soft smooch on her lips without waiting for her approval.

"Ugh! Hayatee you ate something sweet, and Mum said I should stop eating everything sweet!" She pushed him aside and stood up, trying to close the zipper.

Adyan helped her get ready before they walked out of the room with his hand firmly around her shoulders. They arrived at the living room, meeting Mum and Dad seated on the dinning table waiting for them.

"Good morning, Mum. Good morning, Abba." She greeted, slipping away from Adyan's hold. She still call Dad as Abba, it was Mum she stopped calling with Ammi, because Adyan said that's how their child would be calling her.

"Morning, Hayfah. How are you feeling today? Don't hesitate to tell me if there's a slight cramp in your lower abdumen," Mom declared as she stood up and started serving them their breakfast.

Dad looked at her with so much tenderness and smiled. "Weldone Hayfah, how are you feeling today? May Allah make it easy for you. Allah ya raba lafiya." Adyan was the first to answer with the loudest Ameen that Hayfah had to smack his thigh feom beneath the table.

"Why wouldn't I? I need both my baby and Rania sound and healthy. Let's eat, unless you want me to feed you before Mom and Dad." He smirked, knowing she would let the argument slide the moment he brought up something awkward before his parents.

"I'll be leaving for Zaria today, Insha Allah, Jibril called that something happened and I have to go. If something happens here as well, call me the next minute. Hayfah tell your baby to wait for me," Dad said, pointing at her stomach, and he really looked serious; which made them all laughed.

"Abba she'll wait for her husband to be back before coming ai, I'll make sure to deliver your message." And they laughed again, that's when Adyan noticed Mom's gloomy face, he laughed out loud pointing at her.

"Dad, Mom is really jealous of my baby girl, because she knew my gene is so powerful that my child will be prettier than her, and she's afraid you'll dump her for an infant!" Adyan chorused, they hi-fived with Dad and laughed.

"Don't worry Mom, it's a boy, and you're going to dump them all soon." Hayfah reiterated and laughed, Mom's laughter could be heard from the kitchen as she leaned in and hugged Hayfah.

They had their breakfast in the ambience of love and sheer happiness. They walked Dad to the parking lot and didn't walk back until the gateman closed the gate.

Mom took Hayfah's hand away from Adyan's and they walk to the room where the baby's things were kept. "Hayfah don't you think we should start bringing out the little things we're sure we'll need in the hospital? I don't want us to go there unprepared," Mom reasoned and started lifting up some over rolls.

"Mom, why shouldn't we pick two sets each? How her stomach seems to burst any minute makes me think they're twins." They heard Adyan's voice from the door, he was looking at them with hands brought up to chest.

Mom grunted and glared at him, she has banned him from entering the room, because whenever he comes; he makes sure to see every single item they bought, be it a clip. He has jumbled up the room for the times Mom couldn't mind counting.

"What have I said about this room? Adyan don't try me wallahi, go out!" She dismissed him with her fingers and get back to her work, and Hayfah was seated on a couch, looking between the mother and her son.

"Mommm," he whined and entered the room with halting steps. "It's my child's room, why would you say I shouldn't be coming in here. Please Mom, it's your Amore. You no more love me right?" He pouted his lips and made his best puppy eyes.

Mom smiled widely and went to him, she took his hands and guided him to the couch Hayfah was seated on. They sat down and she stop opposite them, "How can I stop loving you, Amore? It's just that I want you to be responsible, you can be a father in the next one hour or so..."

"Mom I'm responsible now also, ask Rania!" He chirped in before she could even finish her sentence.

"You see? Who chirp in his mother's sentences? My friend just listen! And you're not responsible, right Hayfa?"

"Yes Mom, he isn't!" That's how the women kept making fun of Adyan as Mom keot choosing the things they need, which were much over the things they'll need. She packed them all in a travelling back before they all gone back to the living room.

It was getting to 9pm, Hayfah had been suppressing down the pain that had been itching her lower abdomen, that it gets to the point she couldn't walk without grasping the wall.

She had been easy herself for the past one hour now, but she never feel at ease. Suddenly, something watery started flowing down her legs like a fountain. Her eyes involuntarily dilated and she felt a pang in her chest, she thought she was been affected by VVF (Visco Viginal Festibula).

Hayfah wasn't at home, and Mom's room was a few inches away from theirs. With aplomb, she reached her phone that was on the bed side drawer and dialed Mom's number, "Mom, please can you get to our room? I think I'm sick, something watery is coming down!" the phone slipped out of her hand as a heart piercing pain played with the veins of her stomach.

Mom rushed out of her room to Hayfahs', where she met her kneeled down beside her bed, muttering all the supplications that comes to her mind.

"Innalillahi, Hayfah don't sit like that! Let's go to the hospital. And where is this boy?" She was practically out of her mind as well, she started crying even before she Hayfah started.

She spotted Hayfah's phone on the bed and took it, dialed Adyan's number before she ended the call, seeing how Hayfah was getting suffocated. She stood up to increase the AC when Hayfah grasped her wrist, "You aren't leaving me alone, are you?" She spoke through breath, one couldn't easily register what she said.

Mom felt something ran through her veins and hugged her heart. What was that? Hayfah's voice wasn't hers anymore, it was soft and serene that Mom had to look around to see if they were the only people in the room. Vehemently, she nodded her head as a lone of tear slipped down on her cheeks.

Minutes later, Adyan barged inside the room breathing heavily. "Let's take her to the hospital Mom!" He yelled the words and took a pregnant Hayfah in his strong arms.

Mom walked out of the house and took her hijab together with their travelling bag before they drove off to the hospital. Hayfah could only clench and unclench her fist, there wasn't tears in her eyes, but they were red enough for an egg to boil under them.

They arrived at the hospital and the nurses rushed to her, she was taken into the labour room with Adyan tailing behind. A nurse halted at the door and blocked his way, "I'm sorry sir, but men aren't allowed in here." The look he flashed her made her and he entered with sweaty and melting palms.

She had been in the labour room for two hours now, Adyan couldn't resist seeing her in so much pain, he walked out of the room and slumped beside Mom that clutched her hands in a praying manner.

"She's suffering, Mom. She really is." He cried, placing his head on Mom's laps.

Mom patted his head and spoke with a drained voice "She'll deliver safely, Adyan. Let's keep praying for her."

It was as if he got pierced by a needle, he stood up and ran to the room, this time he met her vehemently shaking her head to the nurses telling her to push, her hands firmly holding each side of the mattress.

He walked over to the bed and cupped her sweaty face, clearing off the beads of sweat that formed on her face. "We can do it, Rania. We want to see our child right? To play with him/her, to fight while feeding him/her and have his face smudge with food. We want to team up right? Our vases..."He kept on listing, hushing the words only audible for her, but all proved futile, it was as if she's drifting into a slumber.

"I'm sorry sir, but we might need to do CS for her, she doesn't have the energy to give birth herself." Adyan feels all his world crashing down, they started walking to do door to get the papers signed when she screamed at the pitched of her voice and the nurses professional took a hold of their bundle of joy.

Adyan ran back to the room and stood by Hayfah's face, he watched as the nurses cleared off the mess and placed the child on Hayfah's chest, for a body contact. Hayfah looked up at his crying face and faintly smiled as they heard the nurse telling the doctor "It's a baby girl."
