Chapter 44: Chapter 44
A drop dead silence, only hearts hammering; the organs accessing information threatening to toggle. She listened as she hears only his seizing breaths, his silence was breaking her heart-she wanted him to talk_to say his mind out-but Adyan seemed to be into a hiatus.
"Adyan, are you still there?" She had to ask, for it was over five minutes now without him uttering a word. She knew he must be surprised, but she thought he would say something about it.
The next thing Hayfah heard was shuffles and trudges of his feet on the floor-she heard as he closed the door she assumed was his room's door and entered another room. Her jaws didn't drop down until she heard Mom's voice echoing through the phone.
"Adyan, what's the problem? You are crying and holding a phone, did someone died?" Hayfah heard Mom's terrified voice, as she could hear the voice clearly now_probably because she was now close to Adyan.
Adyan sat down and looked at his Mom, eyes emoting nothing but sheer anguish. "Nobody is died, but surely your son would soon. She ripped my heart_she's getting married to one random guy," he doesn't even know what he's feeling in his heart, he felt how all the veins in his heart were being dried-and soon_he knew he would be taken to the hospital.
"Adyan! What are you saying? Ya rabb! Don't tell me you're telling this to her_how would I face her again? I'm hanging up please," Hayfah spoke petrified, she knew he might be a Mommy's boy_but she doesn't know his level of Momminess could come to this.
"Sorella, ask her yourself!" And he handed her the phone, because he was deaf to Mom's unceasing questions.
"Hayfah am," Mom muttered, placing the phone on her left air_she doesn't want to tense herself_but she surely knows that something terrible is yet to happen.
Hayfah became hooked, she doesn't know what to call the mother of the love of her life_and also-the person she hates most. "Ammi," she heard her lips muttered and continued_for she wasn't used to all these Moms things.
"What is happening? He seems terrified" Mom asked, looking at Adyan's figure_whom was staring deep into space_as if he was trying to solve a hard puzzle in his head.
Hayfah gulped down a lump in her throat, and she knew she wouldn't be saved in this_she have to explain all this to this loving woman. "Ammi, my sister came today and told me about my wedding preparations going on back at home; so I told him first because I have noone to talk to_wallah I'm so much in pain than him_I need a supporting shoulder now_" she couldn't continue, as her tears found their ways down her cheeks. She began crying profusely; like a child would_when beaten and saw his mother.
Mom palmed her mouth, how Hayfah was crying opened a long locked place in her heart_it really touched her frail heart that she too had to shed some tears. "Hayfah am, I know how Adyan can be childish a times; but he was overly shocked_all his life; he had been loving you-so it's probably a hard blow to his heart...," she kept on soothing her until she wasn't crying anymore_only the snifflings.
"Thank you so much, Ammi; it really feels good talking to you_Jazajillahu Khairan." Hayfah had to grin widely after a phone call with Mom, the woman was way to perfection; she was the best mother material one would ever have. Hayfah felt as if she had a heart to heart conversation with her mother; which she would never have the chance to-because Umma isn't even picking her calls.
"Let me give him the phone, you all need to sort things out," Mom said and passed him the phone before walking out of the room_praying that these two lovers would finally have their peace of mind.
"Cry cry baby," Hayfah teased, as if she wasn't the one that wasn't talking to him because of his brother_and as if she wasn't the one crying profusely minutes ago. She really knew the value of a mother today.
"Don't call me that, when all you want is to see me on the sick bed," and he pouted his lips_wiping away his tears like a crying child being gifted with candy.
"How would I want that? When all I want is you, I crave for only you_and yearn for you alone. You're my other half, Addy_you being sick is also me being sick. I love you to the extent that it hurts here, Addy," she spoke softly, her husky voice was melodiously gliding into his earlobes-she let the tears flow freely_fondling the surface enclosing her heart.
"It hurts more hearing these words coming from you; because you'll soon be someone's else. Aren't we going to see Abba? Hayfah I really can't bear this," he doesn't even want to imagine, she became his life at the first glance_and how could he let his life slide out of his hold before his eyes? Could he be this coward?
The tears on Hayfah's face kept flowing unchecked. Her heart was grisping with pain. How could she tell him that his brother was the source of all this? How could she tell him his brother destroyed their lives while aiming at destroying hers_not knowing they were halves and would only be completed when brought together.
"I wish I can do that; Adyan. But there is something you don't know_and somethings are better left unsaid," she tried clearing her tears, but they kept flowing in oceans. She was scorched beyond repair.
"Let's talk about this tomorrow at 4pm; that's after work, deal?" He knew diving further into this matter will all leave them heartbroken_so it's better to talk this face to face.
A painfully curved smile find its way out of her lips, so there would be time she would leave from work at 4pm? Really? Life! It's full of surprises. "Insha Allah."
"My fulani girl isn't shy sometimes_she has alot of words in those luscious lips of hers," he teased, and could already imagine how her eyes would be dilated and she would swiftly palm her mouth_and; that's exactly what happened.
"We can't talk about this here uno? I want to sleep; let's meet there_so the argument could continue," Hayfah stated and stifled a yawn, she was surprisingly sleepy early today.
"Oh yeah, I'll have to do that now_because that's the only place this poor guy get to know his wife more. Bye, Debbo am (My wife) I love you more than the word; love itself," there was a certain serenity and coarseness in his voice that always melts her heart, and makes her yearn more of him. Hayfah knew she can't answer this, not when he used that voice_so-she ended the call with a goofy smile on her lips.

If to say; she had the best dream of her entire life. She knew the sweetness of love through her dreams; albeit they're dreams; but they felt surreal. She kept smiling since they woke up for the Subh salat; Amna had been watching her carefully_just like that; a part in her told her the smile was because of Adyan.
"Addah, are you following me to the company or you'll be fine here?" Hayfah asked, as she was stripping off her clothes_getting ready for work.
Amna smile factitiously "No, I'll be okay. Infact_I be might be going out with a friend," she conjectured, not that there was even a friend they talked about going out with.
"Enjoy your outing then," and she smiled before walking inside the bathroom.
Some minutes later_Hayfah's phone that was placed on the dressing mirror beeped a sound_emanating she just got a message. Out of curiosity, Amna stood up and walked over the mirror, and luckily_there wasn't lock in it.
She stared at the message before her brain understood the contents of it and also the sender. It reads...
(Kayejo am: Good morning, Debbo am; I bet you woke up with a wide grin on your lips. The dream was one of the best, alot of secrets were revealed, and one shy fulani girl wasn't shy anymore. I love you so much. Don't forget our outing by 4pm; I'll wait by the gate of the company. Also, come early so I could see you before leaving for the meeting.)
Tears were already dripping on Hayfah's phone's screen. They even had a dream? She calls him Kayejo, and him Debbo. They're having an outing by 4? Ya Rabbi! Could her heart be shattered more?
A sound from the bathroom door jolted her out of her reverie; she quickly dropped the phone and sat back on the bed.
Hayfah came out of the bathroom and got ready in a jiffy; she stood infront of the mirror and took her phone before walking out of the room_but Amna's voice halted her by the door.
"Hayfah, wait let me get ready_we've cancelled the outing, and it would be bored sitting here all day." And she stood up, walking towards her lugagge.
They all got ready, had their breakfast and walked out of the house_with Rayhan bombarding Amna with lots of questions. The one that struck her throat was "2nd Addah; do you have a boyfriend? My Addah have a very handsome boyfriend. His name is Adyan, he calls me Ray! And said I'm beautiful."
Hayfah had to scold her and asked her to keep shut before they dropped her off and drove to the company.
They entered the company, and luckily for them_Adyan and the board of directors went to a meeting in another company-and wouldn't be back soon. That gave them the chance to catch up a little bit. They called Abba, Hamma Tahir and Umma; whom did nothing but brought tears to Hayfah's eyes.
It would soon be four, and Amna was eagerly looking at the clock, praying that something should come up so Hayfah would be busy a bit. A knock on the door captured their attentions, they watched as the messanger entered and informed his message from the Marketing department's need of wanting to see Hayfah urgently.
She stood up and left for the meeting hall, but could clearly hear when Amna yelled "Hayfah, I might take a stroll around the building."
Amna made sure it was 3:55pm before she re-did her makeup and walked out of the office. She met many lingering eyes on her on her way, but that's the least she could care for_their boss is her target.
She waited until it was finally 4pm, and right on cue; she saw a luxurious flashy car driving towards her.
There was a smile on his face when he saw her_for he thought they were together with Hayfah. "Good evening, our Addah," he greeted, swinding down his window glass.
She flicked back the pain glint in her eyes and smiled back. "Good evening to you too, Adyan. Hayfah was feeling a bit dizzy; so I told her to just go home_but she told me that you're coming by 4pm_I should wait for you so you could take me to the pharmacy," she wasn't amushed at herself, for she knew she was an expert when it comes to lying.
"Subhanallah! Let's go, Addah," and he started the engine even before she entered the car_her heart grisped at how he was driving at a higher speed because she said Haayfah was sick.
Meanwhile; Hayfah finished all she was to do that day and remembered she was to meet Adyan 15mins ago_he must probably be waiting for her. She locked the office and went down_met Muntasra and greeted her before asking her about Amna_to which she assured that she've seen her 20mins ago.
Hayfah went down and kept looking for Amna amd Adyan's car but couldn't find any. She've been dialing Amna's phone but she wasn't answering. Fear gripped her heart, she hoped it wasn't what happened to her that would to her sister.
Just when she was about to dial Adyan's number, a text from him popped up. It reads...
Hey, Debbo am! Heard you're feeling dizzy, we're on our way with Addah to the pharmacy! Be safe please, I love you.
