Chapter 33: Chapter 33
"Hey miss, it's the final stop."
Elizabeth thought she heard someone say to her but she waved it off thinking she was dreaming or something. Not until she felt someone shake her vigorously did she open her eyes instantly to see an elderly woman staring down at her. The woman seeing that she is finally awake walked away.
Elizabeth lifted her head from where she rested it and was shocked to see that it was just her that was remaining in the train. She scrambled up from her seat as sleep left her eyes that instant.
She got down from the train, took her bag and started off with nowhere in mind.
She walked for a bit and decided to take shelter in a shop for a bit while she figured out what to do next. There, just across the road was a shop that looked deserted and must have been abandoned for a while.
Elizabeth decided to go take shelter there. She checked the road to be sure cars weren't coming before she would cross, seeing no car, she started to cross the road. Then unexpectedly, a car was coming at a full speed from the other direction. Elizabeth was almost in the middle of the road before she noticed a car was coming. She froze and stopped in her tracks as she let out a scream as she saw the car come towards her at full speed.
"No ooo…" she screamed as the car rammed into her and lifted her off her feet into the air and on the ground in split seconds. Elizabeth fell on her left hand and legitimately heard more than a bone break. The last she heard before she went into oblivion was the screeching tires of the car that went a few meters before it came to a halt.
"Oh my god! What have I done?" the driver of the car that ran into Elizabeth panicked as she fumbled with the car door handle. She managed to open the car door and walked down, her face glistened with sweats as she approached the body of Elizabeth.
"What have I done...oh no…" She cried out in shock as she watched Elizabeth's body that looked lifeless on the ground.
A car stopped, a man came down from it on seeing the scene. He felt Elizabeth's pulse, "Hey, let's get her to the hospital, she got a chance to make it if we hurry up…"
"Sure...sure...what can I do…?" she asked with quivering lips.
"Give me a hand, let's get her into your car. You should hurry up and get her to the hospital."
Together they lifted Elizabeth's body and put it inside the woman's car.
"Sure you can drive?" The man asked, noticing how she shook and shivered.
"Uh...yes, I can manage," the woman said and got into her car.
"Be careful and don't panic, she will make it alive," the man tried to give her some words of hope. She nodded and ignited the car.
"Dear lord, please save her...please dear lord…" She kept on muttering as she drove to the hospital.
She would glance at Elizabeth through the rearview mirror as she drove and prayed fervently that Elizabeth don't die on her.
Fortunately there was a nearby hospital, and without wasting much time, she drove into it.
"Help! She needs attention now!" She yelled once she was in the hospital. The emergency nurses came to her immediately. They lifted Elizabeth's body into the troller and started to roll her towards the emergency room. The woman didn't stop muttering prayers. Sweat dropped from her face as she followed the nurses to the emergency room.
"Please madam, you should wait here for us,"
"Okay...nurse please will she be alright?" She asked worriedly.
"We will have to see about that...wait here please," the nurse told her and entered the emergency room and closed the curtains on her.
She fell on a heap on the seat nearby as lines of worries lined her face.
"Please ma'am, come this way for registration," a nurse told her. She stood up and followed the nurse to the reception.
"Please your name ma'am," the nurse started.
She heaved out a large chunk of air, "Madam Rose,"
The nurse turned to the book and wrote a few things before looking up to her again.
"Are you a sister to the patient?" The nurse asked.
Madam Rose's face became sullen that second as images of a dead man came to her head.
She tried to shake it off and once again took a deep breath.
The nurse stopped and stared at her. She noticed something was going on with the woman.
"Ahem…" She cleared her throat to get her attention.
"I asked if you are a sister to the patient?" She repeated her question.
"No, I ran into her while…"she started to answer but paused on getting to a point.
"While going home," she said.
The nurse gave her a suspicious look before she noted her reply.
"Here, sign this," the nurse turned the book towards her front and showed her a place to sign. Madam Rose signed it without questions.
She asked a few more questions. "Okay, that would be all for now madam Rose, I think you should sit over there and wait to hear from the doctor."
"Thank you nurse," madam Rose thanked her and went to sit at the place the nurse pointed for her.
She fell into deep thoughts as soon as her buttocks hit the chair. She couldn't stop worrying about the terrible thing that she just did. Her eyes shone in fear while she sat on the chair and hoped those after her didn't get her there.
Some minutes later, she saw the doctor handling the emergency surgery of the lady she ran into and quickly rushed to him.
"Doctor, is she okay? Is she safe? Tell me…" She threw questions at the doctor at once.
The doctor who looked a bit worn out from the surgery carefully hung his stethoscope on his neck.
"She is stable now but still in shock, luckily she doesn't have many injuries apart from a few broken and dislocated bones in her hands and legs. She would be under our watch for now," the doctor said and patted her back before he left.
"What does all that even mean?" Madam Rose mumbled and ran after the doctor.
"So when can she go home… I mean can I see her now before I leave…?"
"No you can't speak to her now, please madam be patient. You can go and come back. She would be in a more stable condition by then."
Madam Rose was confused, she was torn between leaving the lady and never returning to the hospital or waiting for her to wake up. She felt concerned for her and couldn't find the heart to leave her especially since she had no relation waiting for her to be awake.
