Chapter 32: Chapter 32
IN CLINTON'S HOSPITAL ROOM
It was time for the blindfold to be removed from Clinton. Mr and Ms Smith stood by the side and waited impatiently while the doctor carefully unwrapped the blindfold on Clinton's eyes.
As they got to a point almost to the point of taking the blindfold off completely, Clinton asked him to stop.
They all turned to him in surprise as to why he stopped the process.
"I would like to see Elizabeth first," he demanded. They weren't surprised, he once mentioned it to them but they had waved it off and thought he was joking but it seemed he was more than serious.
"Come on son, you will see her soon. She is waiting for you at home,"Ms Smith tried to convince him otherwise.
Clinton refused to allow the doctor to proceed with unfolding the blindfold unless Elizabeth came.
Mr Smith had no option, he sent his driver to go pick up Elizabeth from home.
After some minutes, the driver returned with a news that shocked them all. Elizabeth has left the Smiths' house. There was nothing anyone could do about it as they all pleaded with Clinton to allow the doctor go ahead with unfolding the blindfold. It was very obvious that Clinton was in pain but he had to allow the doctor to do his job since it was no one's fault that Elizabeth left.
He wasn't just feeling bad that he wouldn't get to see her first but because he might never get to see her with his eyes as he was sure Elizabeth would never step foot into the Smiths family again. He was sad, he had wanted to say a lot of things to her and most importantly, ask for her forgiveness which he hasn't had the opportunity to ask since she saved him.
"Okay, it's time…" the doctor said as he finally took off the entire blindfold. Clinton slowly opened his eyes. At first, the light was a lot for his eyes to handle at first, so he squinted his eyes but gradually allowed it to accommodate the surroundings.
The doctor waved his four fingers at him.
"Can you see this? How many fingers is it?"
Clinton shrugged, "Four."
"Perfect!"
Ms Smith rushed to Clinton and embraced him as she muffled words of gratitude while holding him.
"Good to have you back son,"Mr Smith said, giving Clinton a hug.
If only they knew Clinton's mind was totally not there with them. He was thinking of every possible place that Elizabeth would have gone as he planned to send a search party to her.
He knew he would be burdened for a long time if he didn't get a chance to say to her all that was in his mind.
"Doctor, can we go home with my son?" Ms Smith asked.
"Uhm, no, Ms Smith, he is in perfect shape but he still needs to be watched just for a while."
"Then why can't I leave now?" Clinton demanded facing the doctor.
"You will be discharged soon, Clinton, but we need to see the effect of the drugs that were administered to you within these days you were here. Now get some rest, you will need it for strength."
The doctor then left them to have their private family time. Clinton heaved out a sigh of frustration as he gently lay on his back on the bed. It wasn't long before he started to fight with his eyes to remain open and his body to remain awake as sleep slowly overtook him.
Mr Smith left to continue with work while his wife remained with Clinton. She left after a while to get some food just in case Clinton wakes up.
*******
Elizabeth kept on walking, she had no idea where her walk was leading her but nevertheless, she continued to walk and never stopped. It has been over an hour since she started walking since she got out of the Smiths' house. Truth is, she had no idea where she was going nor what she was doing. At a point she felt she had made a mistake and should return to them but there was a stronger part of her that resisted against it, so she walked on hoping a good thing on what to do with herself would pop up in her head.
She had left just a little while after Mr Smith and his wife left for the hospital so Clinton would remove his blindfold. She didn't wait to hear if it was successful or not but she had a feeling it would be successful and had carried her bag and left.
Cole saw when she was leaving but didn't do anything as he knew she already told Mr Smith and his wife that she was leaving.
Elizabeth flagged down a taxi as she was tired of walking. Her legs have become sore from too much walking already and she might have to be bedridden the whole of the next day if she continues to walk.
"Train station,"she told the taxi man as she got in.
Elizabeth decided to go far from the Smiths family, where she would have no reason to bump into any of them as she figured her life. A place where no one knows her was the best place she needed to be.
It wasn't too long before the man announced they were at the train station.
Elizabeth came down and made her into the ticket center. She bought a ticket for herself, hopefully, she would be joining the next train as she was the last passenger needed for that train.
Ten minutes later, the train was on the move. Elizabeth got herself a few snacks to keep herself busy whilst the train moved and ate it while she read a book.
Midway into the journey, her body started to yearn for sleep, her eyes were tired as she yawned. She quietly rested her head behind her with her eyes shut and closed the book hoping to catch some sleep before the train got to its final destination.
