Chapter 157: Chapter 157
"I know you’re still angry at me now, but I was truly trying to help you at the time."
"Stop pretending to be so nice." Sienna Quinn forcibly shook off Vera Yates’ hand.
Vera Yates let out a muffled groan, clutching her slapped hand in pain. Landon Lawson stepped forward to check Vera Yates’ hand and, furrowing his brow, shouted angrily, "Sienna! Aren’t you going to apologize?"
Sienna Quinn clenched her fist tightly, with occasional bouts of pain shooting through her palm. Vera Yates was truly malicious.
Evan Quinn stood obediently behind Sienna Quinn, clearly witnessing what Vera Yates had done, and proactively opened Sienna Quinn’s hand to reveal a bloody scar on her palm. It was evident that there was something sharp like a blade in Vera Yates’ palm when she extended her hand, causing Sienna’s palm to bleed profusely the instant it touched her.
"Mommy, how did your hand get hurt? Was it this bad auntie who did it?" Evan Quinn had clearly seen a flash of something silver.
Vera Yates’ face flushed, and she tightly clutched her small hand, struggling against Landon Lawson and Miles Grant: "It wasn’t me, really, it wasn’t."
Even though she was talking to Sienna Quinn, her eyes were clearly locked on Landon Lawson, as if explaining to him.
Landon Lawson’s pupils contracted slightly upon seeing the red mark on Sienna Quinn’s hand, but looking into Vera Yates’ teary eyes, he said, "Of course I believe you, even if it was really because of you, I believe it was an accident."
Sienna Quinn laughed self-deprecatingly. Compared to Vera Yates, she truly had no status at all. She had thought Landon Lawson had changed, that he had learned to distinguish right from wrong, but today she realized it had all been her wishful thinking. Updates are released by novelꞁire.net
"Daddy, Mommy’s hand is hurt, can’t you see?" Evan Quinn slowly expressed his anger to Landon Lawson and grabbed Sienna Quinn’s sleeve to pull her outside.
With a hint of anger in his voice, he added, "Mommy, let’s go. I don’t want to talk to bad people."
After speaking, he glared at Landon Lawson. Didn’t Landon Lawson know what kind of person his mommy was? He’d rather believe a troublemaker than trust his mommy.
Watching the two leave, Landon Lawson took a step forward. Vera Yates quickly grabbed his arm with her eyes full of tears, they fell down like raindrops.
"Stephen, you have to believe me, I really didn’t do anything!" Tears streamed from Sienna’s eyes.
Seeing Vera Yates so heartbroken, Landon Lawson had to slow his steps, "I believe you."
Miles Grant stood nearby, his pupils shrinking, noticing a cold glimmer on Vera Yates’ village above. While they weren’t paying attention, he took the cold glow away.
Evan Quinn and Sienna Quinn had just returned home. Evan Quinn immediately fetched the family medical kit, carefully tending to Sienna’s wounded palm.
His handsome little face was marked by seriousness and anger.
Sienna Quinn was momentarily dazed, realizing how much her precious son truly cared about her.
But why was he so angry? Was it because she was hurt?
"Daddy is such a bad guy, trusting others but not believing mommy and me. Are there people closer to him than us?"
Sienna Quinn couldn’t help but laugh. It turned out Evan was angry because of this matter; Landon Lawson had truly upset him, but it was only her precious son who would feel this deeply for her.
"Why are you laughing? Don’t you realize how hurt you are? Can’t you take care of yourself? How can I possibly feel at ease?"
Evan reached out to touch Sienna’s forehead. Could she be feeling dizzy from blood loss? How could she smile?
Sienna grabbed Evan’s little hand and laughed softly, "You’ve always been mommy’s good child. Of course, I know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry about mommy’s affairs, everything will be fine."
Evan pouted, but today Landon Lawson’s image in his mind had taken a huge hit. He would never help him pursue mommy again.
Sienna Quinn finally managed to coax Evan to sleep. She looked at her bandaged wound, and instead felt warmth in her heart, for at least she had a precious son.
Yet when she thought of Landon Lawson, Sienna Quinn laughed self-deprecatingly, taking out the agreement they had signed before.
Originally, Vera Yates and the two men had planned to have dinner together, but the recent dispute with Sienna Quinn left Landon Lawson in a bad mood. Feeling apologetic, he told the other two he couldn’t join them for dinner, suggesting Miles Grant and Vera Yates eat together.
"Stephen, won’t you join us?"
"I’ll pass." Landon Lawson’s expression was unpleasant, his mind preoccupied with Sienna Quinn’s palm wound.
Was it really because of Sienna? How sharp must it be to cause such a deep cut? It clearly wasn’t something a nail could do.
Could it be that Sienna was wrongly accusing Vera? But how could that be? Sienna had been with Landon since early morning, and meeting Vera was coincidental. Sienna couldn’t have predicted it.
His gaze assessed Vera Yates but found no clue.
Vera Yates hesitated for a moment, feeling Landon Lawson’s scrutinizing gaze. Was he suspicious?
Her little hand discreetly rested on her pleated skirt’s hem, slowly moving, her brow furrowed ever deeper.
Vera Yates’ eyes flickered, unwilling to meet Landon Lawson’s gaze. Had she dropped it somewhere? If Landon saw it, wouldn’t everything be exposed?
Landon Lawson noticed nothing of Vera’s furtive glances and saw no clue, thinking he must have overestimated the situation. How could a kind-hearted person like Vera commit such a deed?
"But we haven’t dined together for a long time." Vera Yates was a bit disappointed, while Miles Grant looked disheartened, having hoped to share a private evening with Vera Yates. Yet now it seemed, it was wishful thinking on his part; even dining, Vera didn’t want to do it alone with him.
Miles knew his presence was merely an excuse for Vera to invite Landon Lawson.
"Maybe not tonight, you two go ahead."
"Then I won’t eat either. There hasn’t been any filming recently, I need to maintain my figure otherwise there’s absolutely no roles left for me."
Vera Yates chuckled softly, and the supper plan ended silently.
After Landon Lawson and Miles Grant saw Vera home, the two stood beneath Vera’s apartment, Landon looked at Miles’ eyes and slowly asked, "Last time when you went home, they didn’t trouble you, right?"
"You’ve given our Grant Family some business, why would they trouble me again?"
