Chapter 145: Chapter 145

"You little brat, how dare you talk to your father ? Don’t forget, I’m still the one in charge here. As long as you haven’t taken over the Grant Group, I’m still the head of the Grant Family. Is this how you speak to your dad?" Mr. Grant roared with irritation. At home, in the company, he was respected by no one, and now even his own son dared to criticize him. Did his son actually think he could be easily provoked?

Miles Grant furrowed his brows slightly. His father was never satisfied. Landon Lawson had helped the Grant Family a lot, all because they had grown up playing together since childhood. Otherwise, why would Landon share his profits with the Grant Family?

But even this simple truth was beyond Mr. Grant’s comprehension. He was the bane of the family’s existence, a worm gnawing at the core. Whenever Landon Lawson would not cater to their whims, he’d make Miles call him, flaunting their lifelong friendship to get his way.

"Now what do you want me to do?" Miles Grant’s expression turned sour. From the moment he’d answered the call, Mr. Grant never once asked if he was exhausted from surgery. He only thought about the business matters.

Had he never considered his son’s feelings?

Hearing Miles say this, Mr. Grant’s tone finally softened a bit. Each time he heard such words, he knew Miles was about to compromise.

"It’s actually quite simple. You can go and persuade Landon Lawson to assign us some other business deals. Just don’t forget about us the next time there’s business like HR’s."

Listening to those shameless words, Miles slammed the phone down, his face looking displeased.

How could there be such a shameless person?

Didn’t he know that people should have dignity?

Watching the people around him, Miles Grant coldly smiled.

Just after the phone was hung up, it rang again. Seeing the same caller ID pop up, Miles squinted his eyes. After hesitating for a moment, he pressed the answer button.

"You dare hang up on me? It looks like your courage has grown! Do you not know how you should treat me?"

Mr. Grant spoke with irritation, and finally issued an ultimatum to Miles, demanding that he immediately find Landon Lawson to secure another business deal, or else he wouldn’t let him off the hook.

Watching the disconnected call, Miles’ eyes narrowed, a self-mocking smile appeared at the corner of his lips. The Grant Family was involved in business, but he would rather come to practice medicine than return to the family business. It was all because of a father ; going home offered no warmth, so why even bother?

Changing his clothes, he dragged his tired body to the Lawson Group. Standing downstairs, even though he wore gold-rimmed glasses, his vision was sharp. Through the windows of the top office, he could just make out a silhouette. If he guessed correctly, Landon Lawson should be standing there now.

Landon stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the densely packed crowd and the endless stream of cars below. His pupils suddenly fixed on one person, a man standing downstairs, also looking up. For a brief moment, their eyes met.

Landon turned his head and said to Nolan Shaw behind him, "Prepare two cups of coffee."

"Two cups? Are you expecting another guest, President Lawson? If I’m not mistaken, no one’s coming today." Nolan murmured while flipping through the schedule, repeatedly confirming that Landon had no appointments or meetings.

Landon turned away from the window, "Someone’s coming!"

"Someone? Where? Downstairs?" Nolan was puzzled, mimicking Landon’s stance by the window to look downstairs, but saw nothing. How could Landon have seen so clearly?

What kind of vision is this? Able to see from such a tall floor?

Nolan squinted, failing to discern anyone below, while Landon managed to see so clearly?

Ten minutes later, Nolan walked toward Landon’s office with coffee, just in time to see Miles exiting the elevator, and exclaimed, "Dr. Grant? Why are you here? Did you notify President Lawson beforehand?"

Miles chuckled and shook his head, "Of course not. We’ve known each other for so many years, we understand each other’s feelings perfectly."

Seeing the two cups of coffee in Nolan’s hands, Miles realized one of them was for him. It seemed that Landon had seen him from upstairs earlier. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ n0velfire.net

Nolan suddenly appreciated how special this sense of friendship was, realizing that Landon and Nolan could see clearly from a distance.

How many years of friendship leads to such familiarity?

Nolan handed the coffee over and tactfully retreated.

Once seated, Miles quietly drank the coffee Nolan had just handed over, his self-mocking smile reappearing as the bitterness of the coffee lingered, noting Nolan hadn’t added much sugar.

"It was your father who sent you here," Landon said, picking up the other coffee cup and gazing at the silent Miles.

Previously bright eyes now appeared dim and dull, Miles smiled self-deprecatingly and drained the coffee, "Seems you understand me best, and my family devoid of warmth."

Landon frowned slightly, having already anticipated Miles’ visit after the failed HR Group business deal earlier. He had never thought Mr. Grant could pressure his son .

Seeing Miles’ weary appearance, Landon already had a rough guess. It always ended this way; if something went slightly wrong, Miles would be relentlessly pushed by the Grant family to appear here.

This had happened far too many times.

"Don’t look at me like that. It makes me feel as though you’re pitying me." Miles chuckled lightly, his forced smile evocative of sorrow.

Landon restrained his expression and spoke slowly, "This time it’s a personal matter."

"I know, it’s about Sienna." Miles said with a twitch of his lips. Since the beginning, Landon had already informed him, yet Miles hadn’t told his family.

He wanted to use this situation to truly see how much Landon cared about Sienna, to what extent he would go for her.

Not telling his family was to ensure Landon wouldn’t be disturbed, giving him freedom in his decision.

Yet unexpectedly, the family didn’t take him seriously at all. To the Grant Family, Miles was merely their link to Landon.

"This time, you’ve been wronged!" Landon spoke softly, his eyes filled with apology.

Miles shook his head repeatedly, "Without you, the Grant Family would have fallen long ago. You’ve never wronged me."
