Chapter 144: Chapter 144

Landon Lawson turned his head to look at the curious eyes of Nolan Shaw, remaining calm and collected, "No!" This text is hosted at novel[f]ire.net

"What did you say?" Nolan Shaw was taken aback, clearly not having processed Landon Lawson’s words. What did he just say? Did he hear it wrong?

Landon Lawson stared at Nolan Shaw and spoke seriously, "You didn’t hear wrong, I had no intention, I just simply failed."

"Then why with the board..."

Nolan Shaw was dumbfounded listening to this. Isn’t Landon Lawson lying? And such a clumsy excuse at that, yet he managed to fool those shrewd board members who didn’t see through his act.

"Yes, it’s a lie!" Landon Lawson said with confidence, not at all feeling he was in the wrong.

Nolan Shaw was thoroughly bewildered. Having worked with Landon Lawson for so many years, he had never seen him , let alone lying to deceive people. Landon Lawson had always despised such acts, so how did he suddenly change? Could it be that he learned this from Sienna Quinn?

Nolan Shaw’s stunned expression made Landon Lawson a bit uncomfortable. He coughed lightly—in fact, even he didn’t know how he had become . But all was for his wife; handling the board was just a means to that end.

Eventually, he could make up for these losses with other businesses, couldn’t he?

"President Lawson... if the board finds out..."

"How would they find out? If you don’t say it and I don’t say it, how would anyone know?" Landon Lawson raised an eyebrow, showing no shame, but rather a sense of pride.

If Landon Lawson could wield this kind of momentum, ordinary people wouldn’t stand a chance against him.

Nolan Shaw said with some difficulty, "President Lawson, not collaborating with HR Group this time has a significant impact on us. Is it really just to make up for past mistakes?"

Nolan Shaw always felt that Landon Lawson’s reasoning couldn’t convince him.

Landon Lawson squinted his eyes. He had always been aware of Nolan Shaw’s abilities, and he knew that even his own weak reasoning couldn’t persuade Shaw. In fact, Landon himself hadn’t figured it out either.

He always felt that Sienna was hiding things from him, that her goals weren’t just about the HR Group business, but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was, always feeling something was off.

Landon Lawson initially could have easily secured the collaboration with HR Group and made Sienna quit Yates Group, so he could enjoy the warmth of family life.

But it was this strange feeling that led Landon to voluntarily give up the collaboration, casting a wide net for a big fish—Sienna.

He was never one to engage in losing deals.

Nolan Shaw looked at Landon Lawson’s squinted eyes and felt a chill. Although he didn’t know what Lawson was thinking, from his years of observing Landon’s working style and micro-expressions, he was certain that Landon had his own agenda.

After Sienna Quinn and Sean Carter left Landon Lawson’s office, Sienna appeared very tense, her exquisite face was rigid and tight.

Sean Carter observed Sienna’s unnatural expression and, understanding her worries, furrowed his brows before finally saying, "What are you worried about?"

"I just can’t trust Landon Lawson!" Sienna’s close relationship with Sean Carter meant he understood her motives for everything, including her main reason for returning: revenge.

"What’s there to worry about? That heartless man deserves to have his business taken from him; it’s his just desserts." Sean said bluntly.

Sienna’s brows remained furrowed, "Actually, in competing with Lawson Group for this deal, I have my own ulterior motive."

"Ulterior motive?" Sean Carter was momentarily surprised, unclear about Sienna’s true motives in all this.

"This transaction involves Landon Lawson partnering with Miles Grant. The Grant Family is planning to use this opportunity to break into the international market. With Lawson Group’s strength, entering abroad is only a matter of time, but it’s different for the Grant Family. Without a good opportunity, it’s very hard for them to get in. So, Landon’s collaboration is just supporting the Grant Family."

Miles Grant, a veritable executioner, was the one who wielded the scalpel that took her life.

Why does someone like him deserve such good fortune?

Sienna’s face darkened, and of all the people she hated, none surpassed the executioner Miles Grant and the scheming Vera Yates. In her past life, these two colluded to cause her demise.

Miles Grant must be avenged.

Sean Carter, looking at Sienna’s icy little face, shivered at the thought that Miles seeking such benefits would mean he’d have to grovel.

"So, you’re putting in all this effort to secure this deal?" Sean found himself increasingly unable to understand Sienna. Ever since returning to the country, she seemed shrouded in darkness, consumed by revenge and forgetting what she needed to do.

"Don’t lose yourself." Sean Carter looked at her with worry.

Sienna smiled slightly, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "Don’t worry, I’m a person who knows love and hate clearly. Those who’ve wronged me will pay, but it won’t affect my life." Sienna’s lips curved into an elegant smile.

Sean Carter studied her carefully for a long time before relaxing. He didn’t want Sienna to lose herself to revenge.

Just out of the operating room, Miles Grant changed out of his surgical gown, pulling out his phone to see over a dozen missed calls, frowning slightly as they were all from home.

Just as he considered calling back, the phone started ringing again.

"Hello? Don’t you get tired of calling over and over?" Naturally, the caller was Mr. Grant. As Miles Grant washed his hands, he listened to the phone narration.

The man frowned, learning from his father that the business they thought they had secured suddenly vanished, causing Mr. Grant to start roaring as soon as Miles picked up.

"I think Landon Lawson doesn’t want us to have it easy. This business was promised to us long ago, and now it’s gone. How is that not intentional?"

Miles Grant rubbed his slightly sore ear, annoyed by the grating voice. "Ever since you took over the group, Landon Lawson has helped us a lot. Without him, we would have been defeated long ago; how else would we maintain our current standing?"

Since Old Mr. Grant passed away, the Grant Family was entrusted to Miles Grant’s father. But his father was always carefree and clueless about the company’s operations, a typical rich playboy and squanderer.

When he first took over the company, he was uninterested in its development, only indulging in food and fun. Within just a year, the company was in utter decline.
