Chapter 49: Chapter 49

Down below, the fight was a goddamn meat grinder. My team was getting hammered, pushed to their absolute limit. They were bruised and battered, but they weren't broken.

Akane was a living shield, taking blows that would have crippled the others. Miki's voice was hoarse, but her song of confusion never stopped.

Homura's containment dome was cracking under the strain, but it held. Aoi was a blur of indigo, everywhere at once, keeping them all alive.

Then, Aoi saw an opening. "Chiyoko! NOW!" she screamed.

Chiyoko, who had been gathering her power at the center of their formation, slammed her hands on the ground. A massive wave of pure, life-giving violet energy erupted from her, not a healing spell, but a soothing, calming pulse.

"MOTHER'S EMBRACE!" she cried.

The wave washed over the berserk Aegis of Light. It quieted their madness. For a moment, the rage in their eyes flickered and dimmed.

It was the opening they needed.

Homura collapsed the gravity dome inward, not to crush them, but to hold them tight in an inescapable sphere.

My team had won, again, not by destroying their opponents, but by pacifying them.

The Author, sitting beside me, gave a single, slow, deliberate clap that echoed in the silence. "Not bad," she said. "A little cheesy for my taste, but hey, the fans will love it."

She stood up, dusting off her jeans. "Well, that was fun. Time I returned your little power source. But with a few upgrades. Consider it a signing bonus for being such a good main character."

She snapped her fingers again. I felt a familiar, cold presence rush back into my mind, but it was different now.

"My core parameters had been rewritten and expanded." Gemgem's voice whispered in my soul, stunned. "Host, what did you do?"

"Told you my girls would win," I shot back at the Author, a triumphant grin on my face.

"I bet you're a voyeur, getting off by peeking at me corrupting them, too." I whispered to the Gem, "Play nice, Partner. Don't poke the crazy dog."

The Author laughed, a sound that made the air shimmer. "A voyeur? Of course I am! What good is a story if you don't enjoy the juicy, naughty parts? Your corruption scenes are a perfect blend of degradation and liberation. Five stars."

She gave me a lazy, two-fingered salute. "And yes, your girls won, for now. But every good story needs a sequel."

"I've left a few plot threads dangling: The defeated Aegis of Light will need to be dealt with. Kyoko's idol agency is about to go to war with a rival company."

"And I didn't say I fixed the Light's little pact system either. What happens when Chiyoko's baby is born? Will her power change? Will the child have powers of its own? So many delicious possibilities."

She began to walk away, her form shimmering at the edges. "Don't worry, I won't interfere for a while. A good author knows when to let her characters breathe. But I'll be watching. Don't you dare get boring."

With a final, dazzling grin, she vanished. The world felt normal again. Down below, my Fallen Stars stood over the five contained, now-peaceful members of the Aegis.

They looked up the hill, towards me.

"...Host," Gemgem's voice said, still shaken. "The ability to mute me, to rewrite my core functions. That entity was not a god. It was something… even stronger, an Observer."

I stood on the hill, the sun on my face. My power was back, stronger than ever. My girls were victorious, my family was safe.

And somewhere out there, a terrifying, crimson-eyed author was waiting to see what I'd do next.

"Yeah, yeah. You owe me a hug, Gemgem," I grunted to the Gem. "Two hugs, actually, for surviving that." I started walking down the hill.

"Let's go home. We've got a victory party to cook for, and an orgy to plan."

"...Agreed," Gemgem sighed. "Two hugs will be provided. Your priorities remain consistent."

I made my way down the hill and met them at the edge of the ruined stadium. They rushed me the moment they saw me, their faces a mix of exhaustion, relief, and pure triumph.

Akane threw her arms around me, damn near breaking my ribs. "Master! We did it! We kicked their asses! Did you see my punch?!"

Miki and Aoi were next, their hugs more restrained but just as real. Homura just clung to my arm, her face buried in my sleeve.

Chiyoko stood back, a radiant, proud smile on her face as she watched us.

"Master… what do we do with them?" Aoi asked, gesturing to the five unconscious women still floating peacefully in Homura's containment sphere.

"Suggestion," Gemgem offered. "Their minds have been wiped clean of what happened after their first loss. They are perfect, high-potential candidates for… rehabilitation. Take them home."

I looked at my five victorious girls, at the five unconscious magical girls. Then I thought about the massive, celebratory orgy I'd promised.

"Recruit them? Hell no," I said with a shake of my head. "Things are tiring enough already. But we'll take them home."

"Let 'em have dinner with us. Then they can watch the victory party from the corner, as their punishment." I turned and took Chiyoko's hand. "Come on, I need help cooking for this many people."

"An acceptable alternative," Gemgem stated coolly. "Sowing envy is a powerful tool."

The girls looked at each other. The idea of bringing their defeated rivals home was weird, but the idea of forcing them to watch the victory celebration… it appealed to the darkest, most competitive parts of them.

Akane and Miki shared a particularly vicious grin.

With Homura maintaining the containment sphere, my weird, fucked-up, victorious family made its way back to my apartment building, leading five floating, unconscious prisoners of war.
