Chapter 2000: Chapter 2000
Holding the unconscious Ning Yu’er, Tang Ye had just jumped out of the elevator shaft when he immediately heard the piercing alarm echoing throughout the city from the "Sky Continent"!
"What’s happened this time?" Tang Ye was somewhat puzzled. This alarm was more urgent than before, distinctly different. What first came to his mind was that other Zombie Kings had appeared!
Thinking of this possibility, Tang Ye’s heart sank, but he did not stop and continued to move forward.
Just as he exited the tunnel, a gigantic zombie bird with a wingspan of over twenty meters swept over his head, carrying a terrifying gale, with a bloodied corpse clutched in its huge beak, dripping blood onto the ground not far from Tang Ye.
Frowning unconsciously, he looked into the distance, where more birds were battling with jets in the sky. The firepower of the Yunxia Base Group Army was not to be underestimated, with countless lasers crazily pouring into the sky, blowing the zombie birds to smithereens in scores!
But the number of zombie birds was too large, making it impossible to eliminate them all in a short time, causing the already gloomy sky to become more so, accompanied by the zombie birds’ shrill cries, turning Cloud Gorge Base into an apocalyptic scene.
Has Cloud Gorge Base fallen?
No, but with the failure of the protective shield, large numbers of zombie birds, unhindered, have invaded, complicating the battle. Fortunately, the military strength of Cloud Gorge Base is far beyond that of ordinary survivor bases and Sanctuary Cities, so its firepower against these zombie birds can be described as slaughter!
High-level evolved zombie birds, due to their emerging intelligence, understood to avoid harm and sought weaker military areas to massacre the fleeing people. Within these few seconds that Tang Ye assessed the situation, over ten zombie birds had flown overhead!
Seeing that Tang Ye was a Zombie King, these zombie birds did not dare to provoke him, flying around him instead after he emerged. Follow current novᴇls on 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹⟡𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮⟡𝙣𝙚𝙩
Despite zombie birds being more fragile than zombies formed from humans or large animals, the large number, mixed with high-level zombie birds, caused significant damage in battles with human armed forces, causing the lowest layer of the suspended "Sky Continent" to lose support and crash to the ground with a boom!
Dust rose in the distance, obscuring everything, while areas slightly closer to the inner layers sustained varying degrees of damage.
Intermittent collisions snapped several of the few standing ladders into pieces. People stranded on them couldn’t leave the "Sky Continent," only awaiting death to draw closer step by step. Some, unable to bear the pressure, jumped from the edge!
Plummeting freely to the ground!
But Lady Luck did not favor them, and no miracles occurred; they turned into mere pulp upon hitting the ground!
Meanwhile, the topmost layer of the Sky Continent was shaking non-stop, seemingly witnessing a battle of high levels there!
This once bustling Cloud Gorge Base, comparable to any super first-tier city before the Apocalypse, is now rapidly becoming ruins!
The only consolation is that things haven’t yet spiraled to a hopeless state. The Zombie King hasn’t arrived yet; the nearest Zombie King Kamutos is still hundreds of kilometers away. Handling it is not yet Tang Ye’s worry, but the dazzling light emanating from it is so intense that looking southward is blinding!
As if the sun is within reach!
Withdrawing his gaze from the "Sky Continent," Tang Ye looked down again at the Ning Yu’er he was holding. Now it seemed their villa, regarded as a station on the "Sky Continent," was unreachable, likely reduced to ruins indistinguishable from surrounding buildings. He must find another suitable place to settle her.
Thinking this, Tang Ye headed toward the minimally affected west, but now, in the nearly apocalyptic Cloud Gorge Base, walking the disheveled streets with someone dressed only in a piece of clothing was conspicuous. Many anxious people desperate to reach safe zones paused upon seeing Tang Ye, guessing his identity.
Yet now, with zombie birds invading Cloud Gorge Base, people lacked the leisure to mind others’ actions. Even the initially deranged bandit groups were cowering under the threat of death, not lingering long before resuming their tense rush to presumed safety.
Who knows how much time passed, but eventually, after circling around, Tang Ye carried Ning Yu’er into a residential building. From the third floor up, the structure had collapsed, large cement pieces piling up in the rear courtyard. Only the first and second floors remained, with the first having a shop with a giant hole, impacting the second floor, leaving the back doorways exposed to the sky, the ceiling vanished.
The front row of doors was more intact, adequate for resting inside.
Don’t ask, this was the only building Tang Ye found so far. With more black insect species zombies tunneling into Cloud Gorge Base and high-level battles breaking out everywhere, the damage shows no regard for the building’s state!
The destruction Cloud Gorge Base faced exceeded Tang Ye’s expectations, and this is just the beginning!
So, in this final showdown between humans and zombies, regardless of who ends up victorious, Cloud Gorge Base’s geographic position has lost its value.
This Cloud Gorge Base, standing for over a decade in the post-apocalypse, has reached its end.
No living soul remained in the residential building, and no one was willing to stay there, except for two freshly deceased bodies lying at the stairwell’s entrance to the second floor, likely killed by someone with an axe judging by the wounds.
After kicking aside the bodies, Tang Ye stepped over the remaining steps into the corridor, checking the second-floor doorways one by one. Many were impacted by high-level combat disruptions; inside, a grey dust covered everything. Finally, he found a suitable room in the second-to-last doorway inside.
After placing Ning Yu’er on the bed, Tang Ye opened the dusty curtains to look outside. The nearest zombie defense wall was over ten kilometers away, with most of Cloud Gorge Base’s main forces stationed to the east or southeast to confront the zombie horde. The remaining people trapped in the base were heading toward the northern exit; logically, this area wasn’t strategically significant to the zombies.
"This place should be safe," Tang Ye murmured, but quickly realized his concern was redundant.
Ning Yu’er was no longer the girl hiding in dormitories, needing constant worry. She was a Level 9 Rester! Even in weakness, not just any zombie could threaten her.
