Chapter 1963: Chapter 1963
These sewer outlets are more than enough for an adult to crawl through.
Zheng Minghui’s eyes lit up. Compared to himself and Shen Mingke, that guy named Zhao is quite the sly dog!
Assuming that guy hasn’t died after all these years and is still hiding here, then there’s no reason he wouldn’t have modified this place. He remembers when he and Shen Mingke first came here, they marveled at its secrecy. If it were up to him, turning one of these sewer outlets into a secret base entrance would be the perfect hiding spot!
He used to lament that such a good place had been taken by someone else, but thinking about it now, even if he had been the first to take it, he wouldn’t have had enough resources to modify it.
Only those with virtue can reside here.
With these thoughts, Zheng Minghui began inspecting the sewer outlets, crawling in and out of them one by one.
It wasn’t long before the dazed Shen Mingke noticed the still busy Zheng Minghui, and frowned, asking, "What are you doing?"
At that moment, Zheng Minghui crawled out from one of the sewer outlets, his expression completely different from Shen Mingke’s!
"Old Shen, I’ve found it!"
"?" Shen Mingke was taken aback: "Found what?"
"Follow me!" Getting up, Zheng Minghui beckoned before diving back into the sewer outlet. Shen Mingke stood up, half-believing, and followed, peering in. Only then did he crouch down and crawl inside. Once inside, he saw the cleaned and neat walls of the pipes. His previously low mood lifted, and he couldn’t help but say to Zheng Minghui, "Damn Old Zheng, you’re amazing!"
"Just basic stuff, don’t overrate." Said Zheng Minghui confidently ahead, then stood up and climbed up, Shen Mingke closely following. The climb led to a platform that could hold four people at most, with a steel valve door prominently visible in front, along with a miniature camera that both of them noticed instantly.
Now Shen Mingke was sure, the person they were looking for was very likely behind the door. He never imagined that guy would have the energy to relocate the entrance here. If it weren’t for their lucky visit, they would never have guessed someone lived here!
Coming up, Shen Mingke reached out and smacked the door twice, creating a dull sound, but there was no response from inside. Zheng Minghui also knocked twice, then felt the surface of the door and the wall beside it, finally saying to Shen Mingke: "Good god, it’s at least level 10 H-Steel."
Hearing this, he furrowed his brow; it seemed forcibly breaking in with violence wouldn’t work. If they broke the door here, the noise would definitely attract attention from the soldiers and higher-level New Humans above them.
Soon after, Shen Mingke kicked the valve door while banging on it, shouting, "Is anyone in there?"
No response from behind the door, so Shen Mingke kept banging while saying, "Anyone? If you’re there, give an answer?"

"Zhao, I know you’re in there, open the door and let us in!"
After shouting for a long time, both exchanged an eye, concluding there were only two possibilities: either no one was behind the door, or someone was there but was sure they couldn’t force the door open, thus deliberately not responding, giving them a false impression of emptiness.
After a short silence, Zheng Minghui looked up at the miniature camera on the door, seeming to think of something, then squinted his eyes showing a mischievous smile.
"Alright, Zhao, I’ll give you a count of three. If you don’t open the door, I’ll spill the beans about you jerking off to the Mayor’s photo! Let’s see if that kills you or not!"
After finishing, Zheng Minghui began the countdown, and his previous words seemed to panic the person inside, unable to sit still. Before counting three, a man’s voice with a slightly unsettled tone came from behind the valve.
"Who are you? How did you find this place? And how do you know my secret?"
Hearing the voice, they almost burst out laughing, as Zheng Minghui was just bluffing. If there was no one inside, they wouldn’t have been idle enough to spread rumors about the person behind the door.
A true case of the old saying.
Concentration leads to chaos.
"You are..." The man seemed puzzled but quickly recalled. It was these two guys who threatened him with Huaman years ago, not only took his stored canned meat but also extorted most of his Yajin!
He indeed had little impression of the two, but they left a deep mark on him. Every time he recalled that year and that day, he wished he could find them and tear them to pieces!
But who would have thought that after all these years, the seemingly bullied Su Sigui would become humanity’s only Level 9 New Human, and the four major families in China’s thousand-year lineage were gone; these two annoying pests were not only still alive but came to him directly!
Nonetheless, these two were now Level 6 New Humans, though he was too, but he had no chance against them one on two; he had no way to deal with them, and they held his most crucial secret.
"Remember now?" Shen Mingke asked, but the man behind the door was silent for a while.
"Remember, what do you want from me?"
"Just need your help, won’t do anything to you."
"Help with what? I can’t help you much."
"Open the door and let us in first, then we’ll talk."
The man behind the door fell into silence again, but soon the valve rotated, and with a ’click,’ opened inward revealing an unusually cluttered space filled with accumulated items, accompanied by a foul breeze.
The space behind the door was heated, kept at a constant temperature, while outside the temperature might have already fallen below zero; but Zheng and Shen, both Level 6 New Humans, were far more cold-resistant than regular people.
Once they entered, the open valve rotated back, closing it again. Then a man emerged from the warehouse, shirtless, with just a pair of shorts, his hair a tangled mess looking like a chicken’s nest.
This person was the Zhao named, full name Zhao Zhiliang, the one they were looking for.
This guy was a deep paranoia patient, coupled with his not-so-simple birth before the Apocalypse, naturally becoming one of the few ’Doomsday Preppers’ in China, a habit unchanged even during the end times.
Though the space was small, they knew whatever was useful was hoarded by this guy, including the food and blockers they needed!
That was their primary reason for seeking Zhao Zhiliang.
They glanced at the photos on the wall, most of which were taken stealthily of Su Sigui. A majority were visible during their first visit and still stuck on the wall, perfectly preserved.
"Hey, you sentimental fool, this photo must have been stuck there for seven or eight years, right?"
