Chapter 1903: Chapter 1903
In an abandoned county town, fifty kilometers southeast of the Cloud Gorge Base, several helicopters whirred through the air. Each time they passed the town’s center point, the gigantic "iron barrel" dangling below suddenly released, hurtling down from the sky to smash into the ground or the already shattered rooftops!
As soon as the "iron barrel" hit the ground, the immense impact force instantly twisted and shattered the barrel open! Bright yellow unknown liquid splattered everywhere, and for a moment, a peculiar cumin-like aroma spread, causing all the zombies in the county to go berserk. The sound of zombie howls rose and fell incessantly!
On an observation platform set up a few kilometers away, many people instinctively covered their mouths and noses. The strange aroma of the zombie bait made some feel nauseous! However, the effect was immediate and evident. From a distance, the entire county’s zombies, attracted by the aroma of the bait, howled and, within a few minutes, formed an intimidating horde—dark and overwhelming—either climbing onto buildings or crawling on the ground, frantically sniffing the scattered bait!
In the distance, a black round tower with eerie red points of light at the top stood conspicuously. With each flash of the red light, the sky grew noticeably more overcast.
Beneath the observation platform, a large number of soldiers armed with long guns and cannons stood ready, guarding against any zombies that might notice them, with an air of murderous tension hanging in the air.
Before long, Tang Ye, escorted by several soldiers, arrived at the observation platform via elevator. At a glance, the place was packed with people, both soldiers standing still, well-equipped, and scientific personnel collecting data with various measuring devices.
There wasn’t a single idle person here, except for himself and the four zombies beside Hu Ji...
"Why are you only coming now?" As soon as he ascended, Su Sigui, watching the zombie horde moving in the city from a distance, noticed him and called out from afar.
Tang Ye smiled awkwardly, and with a simple excuse, brushed it off: "I got held up by something."
Standing beside Su Sigui, he gazed down at the town below. Undeniably, after the final experimental phase of the "Spirit Rain Plan" commenced, this was indeed the best observation point, where the entire situation in the county could be fully seen.
Of course, many people were curious about the practical effects of the "Spirit Rain Plan," but to experience the best views from the observation platform required more than just an ordinary person’s capability to get there. Therefore, behind the observation platform, a mountain was crowded with people, most of whom were scavengers or bounty hunters who typically adventured through the wasteland cities.
Glancing back from afar, Tang Ye felt something was odd but didn’t pay it much mind. Perhaps Su Sigui knew his answer was purely an excuse but didn’t delve deeper; she merely smiled before raising her hand to summon a man.
The man, hearing her voice, responded with an "Aye" and then set down the equipment in his hand, jogging over.
"Mayor, is it time to start?" Follow current novᴇls on novel•fire.net
Su Sigui nodded and said, "Notify the people below, prepare..."
Before she could finish speaking, Su Sigui’s phone suddenly rang, noticeable by its vibrating sensation, causing her to frown.
Her words halted, as she first took out her phone to check something. No one knew what she saw. Once she turned off her phone, her expression was noticeably less pleasant than before, becoming significantly more severe.
"What’s wrong?" Tang Ye keenly sensed something was off and couldn’t help but ask, but Su Sigui didn’t explain; she merely said, "Keep an eye out for us; something unexpected might occur."
"Unexpected? What unexpected event?" Tang Ye was puzzled, considering there’s Su Sigui, a Level 9 New Human here. Who would dare cause trouble?
She seemed to imply that someone might attempt to disrupt the implementation of the "Spirit Rain Plan"?
But Su Sigui didn’t elaborate, merely scanning the surroundings vigilantly. Tang Ye began observing, his gaze sweeping over the masses on the mountain, strangely noting that the people there were mostly Level 4 to Level 5 New Humans, posing no threat here. Logically, they shouldn’t warrant such concern from Su Sigui, not to mention that here resides a Level 9 New Human and a Zombie King, plus over twenty Level 8 beings both on the platform and below, forming a force that even a zombie horde from the county couldn’t stir!
However, regardless, there’s something ominous in the air, and Tang Ye remained vigilant.
Refocusing, Su Sigui turned her attention back to the man called Nakama Hidehito and said seriously: "Begin."
The other dared not delay, nodding heavily before racing into the elevator and through it, entered the control room beneath the observation platform. Suddenly, a clamor arose around them, and the elevator Tang Ye had taken to ascend continued to descend, only to rise again with a container on it. The moment the container was sighted, the nearby scientific personnel reflexively backed away tens of meters as though startled!
Tang Ye squinted; the container held no ordinary cargo but an eighth-level zombie!
However, this Level 8 Zombie had reached the brink of "withering," who knows how long Su Sigui had starved it.
When Tang Ye first arrived, he wondered why Su Sigui would risk having something so dangerous placed here. Any unexpected outcome could lead to catastrophic casualties!
Now Tang Ye understood; she wanted to use this Level 8 Zombie to demonstrate the "Spirit Rain" lethality, didn’t she?
As the container was brought up, two mutated Level 8 New Humans, who had been guarding Su Sigui’s side, approached without a word, dismantled the container, and forcibly yanked out the completely purple, flesh-thorn-covered Level 8 Zombie with extreme roughness!
This turned out to be a Level 8 Demon Sound Zombie!
Upon seeing the true face of this Level 8 Zombie, the surrounding previously timid scientific personnel retreated several more steps in fear, worried that this horrifying creature might suddenly rampage. However, their concern was clearly exaggerated; before long, an eighth-level New Human who had pulled it out took a box from a soldier nearby. Once the box opened, there emerged an enormous syringe as thick as an adult’s arm!
On the surface of the syringe’s gauge, one could vaguely see some mysterious red liquid inside, appearing intended to replenish the zombie’s vitality...
