Chapter 320: Chapter 320
"I, Kris Cooper, never owe anyone any favors!" Kris Cooper slapped the money onto Nathan Leafcastle. "This money is not only for your flowerpots but also for your medical treatment. However, I must remind you to do fewer foolish things in the future!"
He snorted coldly and turned to leave.
The banknotes slid from Nathan Leafcastle’s body, scattering all over the ground.
Nathan Leafcastle took a deep breath, struggling to suppress his anger.
Walking briskly down the steps outside, Kris Cooper reached out and grabbed Vera Wave’s hand.
"Let’s go!" Holding her hand, they walked towards the exit of the residential complex. He then took out his phone and dialed Tommy Taylor. "Call the 4S dealership and ask them to tow my car from Dragon Mansion."
While Kris Cooper was on the phone, Vera turned her head to look at the car parked not far away. The limited-edition luxury car, one of fewer than a hundred in the world, was wrecked almost beyond recognition. Its front end was crumpled and twisted, the driver’s side mirror was missing entirely, and deep scratches scarred the left door. The glass on that door was spiderwebbed with cracks from some impact, but thankfully, the car’s sturdy build had kept it from shattering completely. The security guards who had rushed in earlier mentioned that Kris Cooper had driven straight through the entrance barrier. Just looking at the car’s condition, it wasn’t hard to imagine how perilous the situation must have been. Vera’s lips pursed, and a dull ache spread through her heart.
"It’s just a beat-up car. I was tired of it anyway, and a new model just came out recently."
"What?!" she exclaimed, pounding a fist against his chest. "I’m not upset about the car; I’m worried about *you*! Are you crazy? What if something had happened to you..."
The more she scolded, the angrier and more frightened she became. Her voice grew thick with unshed tears as she pummeled his chest with her fists.
"You bastard! You’re just burning money! If you’ve got so much, why don’t you just smash all your cars?! You... you prodigal son!"
He let her pummel him like a little wildcat, a faint smile playing on his lips, not dodging her blows. It wasn’t until she actually started to cry that he hurriedly grabbed her wrists.
"Hit me all you want, but why are you crying, Vera? Don’t cry... Girls look ugly when they cry..."
She glared at him, her lips pouting.
"Kris Cooper, how dare you say I’m ugly!"
"Not ugly, not ugly at all. My Vera is still a great beauty even when she cries." He took out a handkerchief to wipe the tears from her eyes. "But... you’re even more beautiful when you’re not crying. So please stop, okay? When you cry, I feel terrible."
"HMPH!" Vera snatched his handkerchief, unceremoniously wiped her nose with it, and then looked up. "Let me ask you, that car... can it be fixed? Is it going to cost a lot of money?"
"Don’t worry about it, it’s insured. We’ve paid the insurance company so much; we can’t let them get away with not paying out, can we?" Kris Cooper furrowed his brow. "You said you were worried about me, but why do I get the feeling you care more about the car?"
She’d seen him driving this car every time they met; it was clear how much he cherished it. Of course, she only cared about the car because *he* loved it.
"Of course I care about the car! It’s more valuable than you are!"
Shooting him a scornful look, Vera shook off his arm and strode forward. A crowd had gathered, and she didn’t want to remain the center of attention any longer.
The security manager and the other guards chuckled at Vera’s sharp retort. But when they saw Kris Cooper’s gaze land on them, they quickly suppressed their amusement, their faces instantly becoming solemn. Orıginal content can be found at novel·fire.net
