Chapter 52: Chapter 52

Derek helped Kathleen to lay and went into the kitchen, hoping to see a clue to how she got poisoned, he called all the maids and asked who served Kathleen meal the day she was taken to the hospital, the maids stared at each other in fear, had something happened to her? Mary was the one who served her that day, "I'm the one Sir".

Derek's cold gaze glanced at her and sweat beaded on her upper lips, she had no idea what was going on, she hoped she hadn't done something wrong, "what kind of food did you serve her"

Her befuddled mind was responding very slowly as she gawked at Derek, sweating, she knew that even if he was a nice man, no one crosses the limit with him or he would not spare such a person, he could be charming and nice, even playful but he could also be deadly when his tail is stepped on, she had no idea what could be wrong with the food she had given Kathleen and wondered if her food was the reason she had been rushed to the hospital. "Can't you answer my question?" his voice boomed and she shivered, "I.... it's... it's.... garlic soup with rice, she requested for it"

Derek stared at her for a moment before turning his gaze to glance at everyone, "my wife was poisoned" he announced, his blue eyes stopping on each face to observe, the maids gasped in unison as confusion clouded their eyes, Mary practically paled, was she being suspected of poisoning her? She would never do such to Kathleen, Kathleen had been so nice to her, why would she poison her?.

"I'm not about to let go of whoever poisoned her" Derek concluded, if the person who poisoned her was here, she would get the warning in his voice.

Mary looked lost as she wandered towards where she knew she would find Geoffrey, he watched her as she approached and his heart squeezed, he loved her so damn much and knew she felt the same way, although, they hadn't spoken about their feelings to each other but they're just comfortable around each other and enjoyed each other's company.

She reached where he was, still looking lost and he snapped his fingers at her face to gain her attention, "down to earth Mary, what are you looking so lost about?"

Mary blinked and realized she was already standing in front of Geoffrey, he was putting on a tight black T-shirt that accentuated his muscles and biceps, the breeze had blown his hair and a few locks fell on his face partly hiding the slight scar on his brow, he looked good enough to eat.

"Where are you lost again?" His warm voice brought her back to the present and she blushed at her thought, she sat down on the long chair carved out from bamboo and made herself comfortable, without a word Geoffrey sat next to her.

"Ma'am Kathleen was poisoned," she said softly, deep in thought.

Confusion clouded his gaze, "what? How did that happen?"

"I have no idea, but I think Sir Derek suspects me" Geoffrey faced her squarely, his gaze still confused, "why would he suspect you?"

"He asked about the maid who served her meal the day she got poisoned and I happened to be that maid".

"That you served her meal doesn't mean you poisoned her" he stated matter of fact and she glowed at his complete trust in her.

"Thanks for that, the question is who then poisoned her?"

Geoffrey frowned, "who do you think will have a motive of poisoning her"

Mary thought for a while and sighed, "I can't think of anyone she is having a problem with except Nicole" and then it hits her as she thought back on the day Nicole had insulted her, she was acting off that day.

"Are you certain the last thing ma'am Kathleen took was your meal? Think carefully" Geoffrey told her and Mary reflected back on the last time she saw Kathleen before she fell sick she recalled their conversation and she had told her about the man she loved, Kathleen was holding a sparkling juice, her eyes brightened immediately as she faced Geoffrey in excitement, "I remember, she took sparkling juice after eating, it was after that, she fell ill"

"I hope it's not what I'm thinking," he said as his eyes took on an unholy light

"What are you thinking" he just shook his head without saying anything and Mary watched him for a while, studying the fine contours of his face before standing up, "I need to go, I'll see you some other time" Geoffrey watched her leave his face thoughtful.

Derek walked towards his car, he had to quickly attend to something that came up at work before coming back, Geoffrey approached him, "Sir I have something to tell you" Derek frowned, he was in a hurry, "can't it wait?"

Geoffrey shuffled his feet, "it's about Ma'am Kathleen Sir" the mention of Kathleen's name completely caught Derek's attention, "what about her?" He asked, his tone dark.

Geoffrey cleared his throat, "I heard she was poisoned and er....was told that the last food she consumed was sparkling juice just before she fell ill"

Derek grew cold, he knew that sparkling juice had always been Kathleen's favorite drink, in fact, she was practically the only one who drinks it, he stared at Geoffrey, "and how do you come across such information?"

Geoffrey cleared his throat again, "I was told by one of the maids, she remembered the last time she saw Kathleen, she was holding a glass of sparkling juice"

Although Kathleen's favorite drink was the juice but she doesn't finish a full bottle of it, that means, if she had only taken a glass or two before the effect hits, there would still be some left, he checked his time, he was almost late for his meeting but right now, nothing is more important than Kathleen, he went back inside and sure enough saw a bottle that contains half drink, he took it, he would have to find out how she was poisoned before knowing who did it, and by God, he won't spare whoever did it.
