Chapter 28: Chapter 28

Jane was starting to get restless waiting for Marcus. Since they became a thing they spend most of their time together. They spent the day pretending their relationship was nothing more than a Boss-Bodyguard relationship. They spend the night talking. Jane used to fear they would one day run out of things to talk about but each night when they say their good nights she had more questions.

She sighed. Marcus was on his evening rituals which she deem unnecessary. She tried meditation but couldn't think past Marcus. She sighed again and checked the time. She then decided to call Sophia. Her friendship with Sophia had been strained lately and it was mostly her fault. Since the last time Sophia called she hadn't had time to call her back mostly because she was spending most of her time with Marcus.

On the fourth ring, Sophia's voicemail picked up. Jane terminated the call and tried again. Sophia's voicemail picked up on the fourth ring. She knew Sophia was intentionally ignoring her calls. She was still mad about the last time and madder that Jane hasn't called till now. She threw the phone to the bed and stood to go check on Marcus. She bumped into him immediately after she opened the door.

He held her waist and pressed her against himself. "Hi,"He breathed on her face.

"Hi,"she whispered back.

"Where are you heading?"

"To see you,"she replied shyly.

He lifted her with one arm still around her waist and closed the door behind him. "Well, I am here now."

Jane could smell his manly cologne and it made her dizzy. She was glad he was holding her or she would have fallen. He tightened his hold on her waist and she was sure she fainted; only her eyes were still fixed on his. He brought his face closer and she closed her eyes waiting for it to happen.

Marcus released her and stepped backward. Her eyes flew open in panic. "Are you being serious right now?"she fired.

"I am sorry,"he said sheepishly. "The kissing break, remember?"

"Screw that,"Jane mumbled and began kissing him. He pulled away almost immediately.

"Seriously Jane, if we keep going at this rate you are going to end up pregnant."

Jane wanted to be angry but she couldn't, she grinned. "Who is going to get me pregnant?"

Marcus carried her and placed her on the bed, he lay above her planting both his elbows beside her so he could see her face.

Jane's grin widened. "You know this is a very dangerous position for someone who won't even kiss me right?"she teased.

"Don't worry, I have a very big level of self-control."

Jane grimaced. "So what's the big idea?"

Marcus groaned and fell beside her. "I have no idea,"he said. "I am being more childish than a teenager,"he murmured.

Marcus was on a kissing break for his sanity and it was driving her insane. He said something about respecting boundaries and other stuff. His reason was her father would kill him and his family if he returned her to him pregnant. She did agree with him. Her father was all about abstaining from sex till marriage, it was one of his methods of protecting her from pain. It was also one of the reasons Cletus had cheated on her. She was grateful for Marcus who honoured her even when moments like this she didn't want to honour herself.

"How are you so able to control your desires?"after a minute of silence.

Smirked slowly. "I have guarded some other rich girls like yourself, they hold very diverse opinions on nakedness. I and Brian use to struggle a lot but we got used to it. The key is to remember how their father would kill you if you got caught."

"Is that what you use on me? You think of what my father would do to you?"

Marcus laughed humorlessly. "I tried, but it wasn't a strong enough reason to hold me."

Jane's phone rang and at first she thought it was Sophia but then the caller ID showed it was her lawyer.

"Barr. Luka,"

"Jane, Jane, I just got attacked."Barr. Luka said breathlessly. "I got attacked by some thugs, they took everything I had including the device I used to store all the existing evidence. I think those thugs ain't just thugs they were sent to steal the evidence."

Jane's grip on the phone tightened. She was beginning to lose patience with all the games Mr. Robert was playing. She sympathised with her lawyer and promised to pay for the damages before ending the call.

"I am sorry,"Marcus muttered. "I am sorry you have to go through all this."

Jane Grunt. "It is not your fault Mac, Robert is just a stupid big old fool."

The next morning when Jane went to the storage room to get Emilia's spare iPad, it was missing. She was so upset she was excused from the office for that day.

The next Monday they went to the court and the only evidence they had was Mia's testimony. They all sat dolefully and watched as Mr. Robert supplied the court with enough evidence to sentence both Jane and Marcus to death. To Jane's dismay, Mr. Robert had informed her father about the whole thing that had happened since she went to Berlin and he was present in the court looking at her with disappointment. At the peak of judgement, Emili burst into the court in her pajama leaping owing to her unhealed wound. She was with her backup backup iPad which contained all the lost evidence and even newer ones of Mr. Robert's plan to burn the company to the ground after he won the case so he could fully build his company with no suspicion and also his failed plan to kill Jane's lawyer.

By the end of the day, Jane won the case, Mia's divorce was granted and Mr. Robert was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Flanz proposed to Mia outside the court and she said yes.

Jane noticed her father looking at her when she and Marcus hugged but he didn't seem to think big of it. He affiliated it with the happiness in the air. Jane was more grateful to Emilia than she ever was.

Mr. Morrison insisted they celebrate which they did. During the celebration, Mr. Morrison publicly appreciated Marcus for saving Jane from danger multiple times and also promoted Emilia as CEO of the company in Berlin. Sophia had heard of what happened and called to apologise to Jane for not being the best friend she should have been.

Mr. Morrison wasn't comfortable with Jane's decision to stay a few more days in Berlin but he allowed it and boarded the next plane to Austria.

The next morning Jane, Marcus, Emily, Flanz, Mia, and Mia's children went to the beach. It was Emilia's idea.

"To erase all the bad memories Berlin brought and admire the good ones it brought,"she said.

Jane couldn't agree more. Berlin had been one of the toughest jobs it had a handle and but it cannot compare to the fruits it yielded.

"My change of attitude, my newly formed friendship with Emilia, the restoration of my father's company, and of course Marcus,"Jane said when she was asked about the best things Berlin gave her.

Emilia's answers were her friendship with Jane, the ability to see and spend more time with her siblings, and her promotion. Marcus gave 5 answers "My relationship with Jane, Jane's decision to choose me, Jane's love for me, My courage to voice my feelings to Jane, and Jane herself."

"Let's just say you became obsessed with Jane,"Emilia said laughing.

For Mia and Flanz it was the love they found in each other.

"How do you suggest we break the news to our parents?"Jane asked after Flanz drove them home and they had done their nightly rituals.

"I have been thinking about that a lot, Jane, my mother doesn't like you much–she doesn't like anybody labelled rich."

Well, that is interesting."Jane said, placing her head in Marcus' lap.

Marcus stroked her hair in silence for a while; they were both thinking of what they had been avoiding.

"Do you think your father will ever accept me? He knows more than anyone else that you are too good for me."

Jane sat straight gazing at Marcus half annoyed and half hurt. "I am not too good for you Marcus,"she said, her voice cracking at the end of the sentence. "If anyone is too good for the other it would be you being too good for me."

Marcus was staring at her apologetically from her tune he knew he had hurt her and he felt sorry.

"You loved me before I knew you,"continued before he could voice his thoughts. "Even when I was being arrogant, pompous, haughty, and smug towards you, it didn't stop you from loving me."She wrapped his face in her hands. "Don't ever think that I am too good for you, don't ever think it, Marcus, promise me,"she said, staring deeply into his eyes–into his soul. "Promise me you will never think of such a thing ever again."

Marcus wasn't sure he would be able to control his thoughts but Jane's eyes' intent gaze made him feel like he was on drugs. "I promise,"he mumbled.

"Good,"Jane replied with a smile of relief and then pegged his lips.
