Chapter 27: Chapter 27

"EVERYBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO DREAM." Jane shouted in excitement. She then pulled Marcus by his neck and planted her lips on his.

Marcus began responding but pulled away almost immediately. Jane's expression was confused but she then flowed his gaze to see Flanz looking at them through the front mirror. Her excitement was instantly replaced by panic.

"Flanz," she called softly. "Are you going to tell on us?"

Flanz's bewildered expression was replaced with a slow smirk. "I am just err… Shocked." He slowed his driving pace. "After … " he skipped the name. "broke your heart we all thought you would never love again."

Jane and Marcus had their eyes glued on him.

"I am happy to see you have changed your mind about love ma'am." Flanz's smile widen.

Jane and Marcus sighed in relief and then giggled because they had been holding their breath.

"Only if," Flanz glanced at them from the front mirror.

"There is a catch," Marcus said hourly.

"If I am allowed to pursue Mia." Flanz's cheeks flushed red as he completed his sentence.

Jane snickered. "Looks like love is not only in the air for us Mac."

"Awwn," Marcus said and laughed mockingly at Flanz. "Ma'am Jane, please tell him he can."

"Yeah, of course, you can. I do hope you know she is married right?"

"Not for long," Flanz muttered.

Jane shrugged and turned to Marcus who was already leaning into her staring at her intently. "What?" she asked beaming.

Marcus carefully traced her cheek born as he always does, he then kissed her nose. "Has anyone told you how beautiful you are?"

Jane blushed. "Not recently," she answered.

On cue, their car was hit.

"What on earth is happening!" Marcus yelled at Flanz.

"I am sorry sir, but the car that tried to kill us the other day is back."

Marcus looked through the view mirror and sure enough, the same black BMW 760Li High Security was vigorously chasing them.

Flanz made a sharp turn and in the process hit the car. Both Marcus and Jane were not sure how Flanz did it but he broke the black BMW 760Li High-Security front glass. They didn't stop to see who was in the car, but they did hear him shout in pain as they zoomed away.

Marcus suggested they stay in a different location other than the house they live in and the hotel they used last time. After much consideration, they settled for Emilia's home, the one Jane had bought for her and her siblings.

Emilia was more than happy to see them. She welcomed them and made them feel at home.

Jane called her father's agent and had him get them a new house and a few more new cars for security purposes.

The security from the house they stayed in had called earlier to report a robbery. The thief had gone into Jane's room and picked up only the iPad there.

Jane was furious because she knew whoever robbed her house was trying to steal the evidence she had on Mr. Robert, and more furious. After all, apart from herself, herself, Marcus and Emilia, Mia was the only other person who knew about Emila's spare iPad. Marcus had suggested she lie about leaving the iPad at home in front of Mia which she did. Now Jane did believe Mia was being used by her husband.

They had transferred all the vital information they needed into their lawyers' device and also hid Emilia's actual iPad in the store room in the office.

The next morning they used a different car to exit the building and drove around in circles before heading toward the company.

Mr. Robert reported being sick and hence was not in the office which was unlike him. The employees confirmed that he always came to the office no matter how sick he was. As a matter of fact, he did come to the office after he was operated upon once.

Mia was late to the office and she looked worse than usual. She also avoided Jane, Marcus, and Flanz throughout the day. When some of the employees had asked to visit Mr. Robert Mia was quick to dismiss them telling them it was not at home.

Mr. Robert was not at work the next day and the day after that.

When he finally resumed work he had stitches on his face and several parts of his arm. Marcus and Jane quickly pointed out why he had avoided work.

He was the one with the black BMW 760Li High Security that tried to kill them.

Jane couldn't help but feel irritated and sad. Irritated because a man as old as Mr. Robert would chase her in the city and try to kill her himself. Sad because this was the man her father has placed as CEO of one of his companies.

Since Jane had given him the approval to pursue Mia, Flanz had been trying to get her alone with no luck until today.

Jane had decided to bring Mia along with her for lunch and then left her in the car with him.

Flanz stepped out of the car and locked Mia inside. She didn't seem to notice so he didn't explain why. He went to a cheaper cafeteria opposite Jane's favorite and bought two burgers and two sodas.

He thrust one burger and one soda into her.

"Thanks," she whispered heavily.

"Eat." he nudged.

She forced a smile, unwrapped her burger, and took a bite and several more. She hadn't realized how hungry she was till then. She took more than half of the soda in one sip and then burped. "Sorry," she said shyly.

Flanz chuckled. "Looks like someone is hungry."

Mia blushed and Flanz smiled in return.

"So tell me, Mia," he began picking at his burger with his finger.

"Yes?" she said softly.

"Why did you marry Robert?"

The question took Mia off guard; and choked on her soda.

Flanz apologized and waited for her to gain control.

Mia avoided his eyes and focused on her drink.

Flanz raised her chin so he could see her eyes. "Why Mi?" he prompted.

Mia removed his hand from her chin and looked out the window.

Flanz waited.

"I was young and in love and stupid," she said and then fell silent. She glanced at Flanz and sighed. "Everyone warned me about him; my parents, my brothers, and my friends but I won't listen." she kept quiet, her eyes distant, she sighed again and continued. "He was all loving and kind then, he was honest and upright– that was when Mr. Morrison made him CEO. Everything was going okay for a year and then one day he lost his patience and hit me. I blamed myself and excused him. I apologized, and then I got pregnant with Sophia," she said the name with a smile. "Robert hits me almost every day throughout my pregnancy with her but she survived.

Flanz reached to hold her hand but stopped halfway and took his hand back. "Why are you still married to him?" he asked.

"Are," she moaned. "I had become too dependent by the time I had Sophy I couldn't even imagine living, and I knew my parents would not take me back." Tears glide down her eyes.

"Don't you think you deserve better?"

"Don't you see Flanz? I have ruined all my chances of a better life." she cried.

"Is that why you work for him?" Flanz asked softly.

Mia immediately became guarded. "What do you mean?" she asked, her eyes prodding into him.

"Oh, We know you told Mr. Robert about Emilia's spare iPad, hence the robbery in her house."

Mia looked away but Flanz had already seen the fear in her eyes.

"I have no idea what you are talking about!" she muttered trying to keep it together but she was sure her voice gave her away, it didn't sound convincing even to her ear.

Flanz giggled. "Too bad your nose widens any time you are lying."

Mia held her nose tight. She knew it was true.

"Jane will sue you," Flanz stated. "She has enough evidence to get you locked for at least 20 years."

Mia turned to him with utter panic in her eyes. She held his stare for a while and then burst into tears.

"Mia…" Flanz moaned. "Don't cry."

"I am dead meat," She cried loudly.

"But it doesn't have to be so," Flanz whispered, taking her hands.

"What do you mean?" Mia looked at him with a ray of hope.

"Marry me."

Mia looked into his eyes for some sign of a joke but found none. She pulled her hands away quickly. "Are you crazy or something?" she asked.

Flanz groaned. "I am not filing for divorce, Jane will support you, and then you and your daughters can be free from those monsters of a man and then I will marry you."

"What if he wins the case?"

Flanz snickered and took her hands in his again. "Do you think Robert can win any kind of case against Jane? I mean even without evidence Jane will not be arrested for the murder of Suzan–even if she did it. It will only stain her name."

Mia allowed Flanz when he tried to kiss her hands.

"I do not think I have the right to dream that big." She mumbled.

"EVERYBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO DREAM."
