Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Anya's Point of View

"Come on. We need to leave," Marcus sternly said. He's in a foul mood because our pack has been attacked by rouges, again, without our presence. One pack member is in critical condition right now. Damn rouges!

I hurried to follow him as not to increase his bad mood. His breathing was rigid, and his body was stiff. I put my hand on his arm to calm him down. His eyes flickered, from black back to its original color. I know he's on the edge of shifting, but he's trying to calm his wolf down. I snuggled close to him as he inhales my scent. We stayed in that position for about two minutes, then we decided to leave.

After ten to fifteen minutes, we arrived at the packhouse. Marcus hurried out of the car to go to his office, and I went straight to the pack clinic.

"How is he?" I asked our pack doctor. He smiled at me first and looked at the man with the bandage on his body, who was fast asleep.

"He is fine. He wasn't breathing at first, but we revived him. Fortunately, his body was able to recover with the wounds he sustained," the pack doctor explained to me. "Right now, he just needs to rest and drink his medication," he added. I nodded and thanked him.

I met Adrian's mate Lucy, and she is very grateful that her mate is safe from harm, especially since she is about to give birth. I was angry with the rouges, because of their attack there was a werewolf about to die. I politely said goodbye to Lucy and went to Marcus' office.

"I won't do it! Leave Arkand before I fucking kill you!" I heard Marcus's angry voice. I hurriedly opened the door, but suddenly someone opened it before me. Arkand came out from his office, Joseph's beta. What is he doing here? And what did he say to Marcus that made him angry?

"Arkand," I called softly to him. Arkand looked at me and smiled before walking away. I heaved a sigh. I went inside Marcus's office. He didn't seem to notice me because he was bent over and looking at the pictures on his table. The tiredness was visible on his face, but even so, he is still handsome.

"Marcus," I called as I slowly approached him. Marcus looked at me then he motioned to sit in his lap. I immediately followed him and sat. I put my hands on his disheveled smooth hair and trace his eye bags.

"My baby looks tired. It's making me sad," I cooed while pinching his cheeks. He chuckled and planted a quick peck on my lips.

"Not anymore because the most beautiful woman is in front of me right now," he playfully said. I laughed.

"You are kidding me, right?" I said to him while smiling. "What are those, Marcus?" I asked and pointed to an envelope. He stiffened.

"Those are the pictures that show where Damien could possibly be hiding," he replied. Anger was visible in his eyes, and his hand was also clenched into a fist. I took his hand, and I intertwined his fingers into mine. I felt his body relaxed.

"Come on, let's eat. I'll make you something," I said and smiled. He nodded and helped got back to my feet. We walked out of his office hand in hand and went to the kitchen.

"What would you like to eat?" I asked him as I scanned the refrigerator. I pulled out the ingredients I might need. I felt Marcus's hands wrapped around my waist.

"You," he said, then nibbled my ear. A moan escapes my mouth. I turned to him and looked him in the eyes. Desire, longing, and love, I could see all of it. He hungrily kissed my lips, and I kissed him back with the same intensity. I missed him, and I miss this. I tugged at the collar of his shirt, wanting for more. He kissed the spot where his mark will be put right between my collar bone and neck. I arched my back in pleasure.

"W-We s-should probably stop. As much as I want this, I'm hungry. We need to eat, baby," I said breathlessly said to him. Marcus nodded his head. He quickly kissed my lips and sat down. I cooked baked mozzarella bites and prepared our drinks. I approached the table and set the food down along with the pitcher.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked him.

"Yes. I'm okay, don't mind me," he said, then kissed the back of my hand. A while ago, I saw him staring into the distance and seemed to be deep in thought.

"You sure?" I asked him again.

"Yes, definitely," he assured. I sat down and took a piece.

"Anya, always remember that I love you, and I don't intend to hurt you for no reason. I may hurt you, but it doesn't mean that I don't love you. Always think that it's for your own good. I will protect you, Anya, even if it costs me my life," Marcus suddenly said, which stopped me from eating. I looked at him with questioning eyes. Did something happen? He never spoke again. I smiled and said.

"I will remember that, Marcus. I love you too," I said, then hugged him. I don't even know what's going on right now, but I believe you, Marcus. I trust you with all my heart.
