Chapter 10: Chapter 10
Anya's Point of View
Marcus pulled me close to him. I felt my cheeks reddened.
"Joseph commanded me to watch over Lea," Arkand simply said without a trace of concern or fear on his face. Isn't he afraid of Marcus?
"Then what are you doing here beside my mate if you’re guarding Lea?" Marcus asked, irritated. Arkand just shrugged his shoulders in response. My eyes widened as I can feel him tightened his grip on my arm.
"What's happening here?"Joseph asked us. Marcus looked at him and glared.
"The fucking problem is your beta, Joseph!”Marcus angrily said. “Talk to him. I don't share what's mine! Tell him to fuck off!" Marcus added. I would have liked Marcus for saying that Joseph laughed out loud.
“My friend, my beta is just right in front of you,” Joseph muttered and pointed his beta.
"What the fuck!? Do you think this is funny?” Marcus sighed. It’s clearly evident that he’s annoyed with Joseph.
"Still territorial, eh? Fine. I'll talk to my beta," Joseph laughed. I saw Arkand scratched the back of his head, and Marcus pulled me back inside the packhouse. He let me into the room and slammed the door real hard. I flinched and backed away. One of his hands rose and was about to slap me. With the fear I’m feeling, I immediately closed my eyes and waited for his hand to land on my cheek, but he did not hurt me after a few seconds. I opened my eyes and looked at him intently.
"Why?" he asked me. I was confused by his question, so I did not answer. He sighed and pressed his forehead to mine.
"Why did you close your eyes?" he asked weakly. I can smell his breath, mint. I'm nervous.
"I’m terrified of you," I whispered softly. He averted my gaze and cursed loudly. Marcus touched my cheek.
"I'm sorry,” he mumbled and left the room, leaving me all alone and confused. I went to bed and lie, covering my eyes with my arms.
“What are you doing to me, Marcus?”I whispered under my breath. I stayed in bed for minutes before deciding to get up. I can’t just wallow in pity in these dark four corners. We have a guest that’s needed me. I went down and saw Lea with Beta Arkand sitting on the couch drinking juice and eating sandwiches.
“Anya!”Lea called my name and patted the space beside her. I smiled and slightly bowed my head. I went and sat beside her while she gave me a glass of juice and a sandwich she’s having.
“No, Lea. It’s for you, guys,” I said and kindly refused her offer. Lea rolled her eyes at me and put the sandwich in my hand.
“Eat,” she said with a smile. I let out a sigh and began eating the food.
“I’m sorry about what happened earlier,” I whispered. Lea chuckled and patted my back.
“It’s okay. I understand. That’s the nature of the Alphas, I think,” she said while shrugging her shoulders.“Besides, it’s us who should say sorry for agitating Marcus like that,” she added.
“I’m sorry,” Arkand said and smiled at me. I shook my head and drank the juice in front of me. We talked, and I like how Lea is. She’s sweet, caring, and above all, she is kind. Lea is really fitted to be the Luna of her pack.
“So when did you arrived here?”Lea asked me. Recalling back the happening in the past and my old pack, Damien’s assault, and Marcus’s sister that almost died, it’s been months of full events.
“Months, I guess,” I said.
“Wow! Really?”Lea mumbled, surprised.“I thought you’d been here for years,” she added. I just smiled at her and glanced at the office above where I think Marcus was currently right now with Lea’s mate.
“They’ve been in there since forever,” Lea said and groaned while Arkand chuckled.
“What are you laughing at?”Lea asked, a little irritated.
“Joseph already told you that it would take hours, yet you still insisted ongoing, and now you’re complaining,” Arkand said. I couldn’t help but smile.
“Our beta is like an old man, right?”Lea whispered enough for Arkand to hear. I could feel my eyes widened.
“Lea!”I said, but she only giggled.
“I’m kidding,” she said.“Do you have plans this coming weekend, Anya?” she asked me and crossed her legs.
“I don’t know. I’ll look it up first. Why?”I asked while playing with my hands.
“I want to invite you to our pack,” Lea said. I don’t have particular plans but I don’t know if Marcus would let me go. I haven’t gone out of the packhouse. I only went as far as buying necessities in the mall, but that’s that.
“Then I’ll call you to see if I’m available,” I replied. There’s no wrong in talking to Marcus. I hope he won’t hit me. I let out a sigh and listened to Lea talked once more.
