Chapter 28: Chapter 28
So, I've received many messages from all of you asking me for updates. The thing is, there are so many things going on lately with my school works and there's a stupid drama that slipped my mind. Hope you guys can understand and honestly, I'm so happy that you guys messaged me because I got the motivation to write again
So, here's the chapter that I promised
Once I got downstairs, I headed to the kitchen and saw Mrs. Hudson already there cooking breakfast and the smell of coffee filled the room. She turned around from the stove spotting me with a smile on her face. "Good morning, dear"
"Good morning, Mrs. Hudson", I returned the smile.
"Breakfast will be ready. You can help yourself with the coffee", she said returning to the cooking.
I didn't drink coffee so I opened the fridge, grabbed the milk, and poured myself a glass. I drank the milk as I watched Mrs. Hudson busied herself with the breakfast.
"Do you need help?", I asked, felt bad for the old lady to do this all by herself.
"Thanks, dear but no need. You just sit there and relax", she flashed me a grateful smile. "I'm almost done anyway"
So I just sat there and chatted with her until she finished cooking. She placed a plate full of pancakes making my eyes widen. I couldn't eat all of that!
"You need to eat more, dear. You're too thin for my liking. I'll make sure to store some meat in these bones", she said squeezing my arm lightly making me laugh as I took a bite of the buttermilk pancakes.
I asked her to eat as well but she said she had to clean the house then she left me alone eating my breakfast. I almost finished when two guys were coming inside the kitchen and man they were huge!
"My name is Hunter and this is Jack. We'll be taking you to school today", the guy with dark hair spoke and the other guy, Jack had dirty blonde hair stood behind him and nodded when Hunter introduced themselves.
"I'm Valerie, though I guess you already know that", I said and they nodded.
I didn't know what to say anymore and they stood there just watching me making it super awkward.
"So, pancakes?", I offered them. There were some left on a plate that Mrs. Hudson made in case I wanted more.
The Hunter just muttered 'no, thanks' but I saw Jack seemed interested in my offer making Hunter scowled at him.
"It's OK. I can't finish them anyway", I said pushing the plate towards Jack. He glanced at Hunter, probably asking for permission. Hunter nodded and Jack took a seat at one of the islands.
I grabbed my empty plate and washed it at the shrink. "I'll go change", I said after drying my hands with a cloth.
I walked upstairs to Sean's room and got changed into a T-shirt and jeans that I left there when I had a sleepover a few days ago. I brushed my hair with Sean's comb and tie it into a high ponytail. After making sure I looked presentable, I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs to the kitchen where the guys were.
Hunter still stood there with his arms crossed and Jack was drinking a beer from the fridge. When they saw me, they both straightened their body making me amused a little.
"I'm ready", I told them. They nodded and let me walked first, them following behind.
We walked towards the car and the blonde guy, Jack opened the backseat door and motioned me to get in. I thanked him before he closed the door and made his way to the passenger seat while Hunter sat on the driver's seat.
The journey was silent and I just spent my time looking outside the window watching the passing trees. Later, I felt my eyes getting heavy but then wide awake when the car came to stop.
Jack came out of the car then opened the door for me. "You know, you don't have to do that", I smiled. "I'm not some princess"
"Well, not according to the boss. You're his princess", he grinned and I giggled.
"But seriously, stop doing that. I can open the door myself", I said sounding serious now.
"Fine", he said raising his arms in the air. This guy is funny. Then I heard someone clearing their throat. I turned around and saw Hunter narrowing his eyes to Jack but he just rolled his eyes. Well, this guy really should get some loose because he was too serious all the time.
"We'll be waiting here until you finish your class", Hunter said in his low voice. Waiting here? I have class until 4 and they'd just sitting here doing nothing?
"How about you guys go back to the house then come when I called you? My class ends at 4", I told them.
"We were given the order to not let you out of our sight", Hunter said. Of course, he'd told them to do that.
"But, won't you be... bored?", I asked curiously.
"It's our job", Hunter shrugged.
"It's better being bored than getting a bullet on our heads", Jack joked and my eyes widened. Hunter slaps the back of Jack's head earning a groan from Jack.
"Alright. I'm going to class now", I said turning on my heels.
I had Mrs. Stone again today and kept hoping the class to be over quickly but luckily she didn't pick on me which was a good thing. When the class ended, I let out a sigh of relief. I slowly put my books in my backpack and walked towards the door, heading to the next class.
While I was walking, I bumped into someone and I looked up to see Liam. I gasped and without thinking, I hugged him. He seemed tense but he returned my hug anyway.
Pulling away, I looked into his eyes and frowned. "Why didn't you call me back?", suddenly felt angry.
He just sighed and I kept going. "Do you have any idea how I felt these past few days? The fact that my best friend left me when I needed him the most and he can't even grab the phone to call back and I felt like shit, you... ", I was stopped with his lips sealed to mine taking me by surprise.
He pulled away and I looked at him in disbelief. "Why did you do that?", I muttered.
He pinched the bridge of his nose. "I like you, Val. Not as a friend or brother but more than that. I have been since I met you at the orientation. You were just so beautiful that day with your dark hair tied in a ponytail and the apples of your cheek were red because of the heat of the summer. I couldn't take my eyes off you the whole day then I learned more things about you, making me more interested in you"
"I always tried to give you hints but you were just too oblivious to realize it. And it hurt when I knew that you only like me as a brother. Then Sean came making me more pissed because you instantly fell under his spell without him trying anything while me spending almost the rest of my college life for you to notice me", he raised his voice a little.
"Why? Is it the money? I know I can't give you anything as he does...", he couldn't finish because I slapped his cheek making his face turned to the side. The whole campus watched in horror and my tears were falling from my eyes.
"Is that what you think of me?", I seethed. I couldn't believe he would think that low of me.
"I don't know what to think anymore", he said harshly making me more hurt.
Without thinking, I pushed him hard making him stumbled a little, and ran. I needed to get out of there. I couldn't even face him after what he said.
I ran towards the bathroom and locked myself in one of the stools. Tears were falling nonstop thinking back to what he said. I don't know what to think anymore.
He hated me now. I just lost my best friend. He was the only one who was always there for me, good or bad and now I was alone because I led him on. It was all my fault. I knew sometimes he could be flirty with me but I just brushed it off and thought of it as a joke.
Well, it's because you're an idiot, my inner self told me.
I didn't know how long I'd been there until my phone buzzed loudly making me jumped and I answered without checking the ID. "Hello?", I said weakly.
"Valerie, where are you?", Hunter's voice filled my ears.
"I-I'm still in class, packing my books", I said in a shaky voice.
"Are you okay? Is something wrong?", he sounded worried and I heard the car door being slammed close in the background.
No, my best friend just loathed me in my face
"Yeah, I'm fine", I lied. "I'll be there soon"
"Alright", he said and I hung up.
I walked out of the stool and glanced at the mirror and I looked like shit. There were tears stains and my eyes were red and puffy. I washed my face with the tap water and dried it with the tissue. I looked better except for my still puffy eyes but I didn't give a damn and quickly exited the bathroom before Hunter and Jack decided to have a search party for me.
It seemed like they did wait for me because they still parked the car at the same spot they were this morning. I need to talk to Sean about this, telling him to let them do something useful or go somewhere while waiting for me. I felt bad for them waiting for me here the whole day.
I opened the car door by myself this time and that happened because Jack fell asleep at the front seat with his mouth open. Now, I felt worse. He jerked awaked once I closed the door making me chuckle.
Hunter didn't show any emotion like usual. He started the engine and drove away from school heading back to Sean's house. To kill time, I decide to play with my phone. I was scrolling through my social media when it's buzzed loudly making both of the guys turned their attention to me.
I checked the ID to see that it was Liam calling me. Just seeing his name made me remembered his harsh words. I pressed the reject button but again my phone buzzed from him calling and once again the guys eyed me from the rear mirror. I decided to turn off my phone, giving me peace of mind.
"Why didn't you take it?", Jack asked curiously.
"It's nothing important", I said suddenly feeling angry. He seemed surprised by my sudden mood and decided to let it go. Hunter just eyed me suspiciously before setting back his attention to the roads.
I stared outside of the window admiring the view and tried to forget everything that happened that day.
