Chapter 38: Chapter 38
"She left?" Nick was yearning to see Sanaya but hearing Sanaya already left his face got cast down.
"Boss, are we going to the nightclub tonight?" Kyle saw how sad Nick seemed to be but he still implored him. "Back to the mansion." With that four words, Nick got in the car.
Seeing Sanaya Mrs. Elisa ran to her with a strained smile. "You are back..." Her eyes caught on the teddy rabbit Sanaya was hugging.
Sanaya on the other hand seemed stray in herself. Mrs. Elisa affirmed, "This might be your teddy, so cute..." Sanaya did not have any reaction about that so Mrs. Elisa continued, "You know Little Nick has been missing you. He will be very happy to see you. But did you already meet him? It's time, he might be coming back too...."
Before Sanaya used to be optimistic as soon as it was about Nick but today, she did not seem to be enthusiastic at all, even it was hard to understand if she wanted to even know. "Did he?" She asked her in a low voice with a dry smile.
With a slight nod, Mrs. Elisa kept glaring at Sanaya, "Ahh, why don't you go to freshen up first. I will..." Sanaya cut her off and let out playing a vague smile on her face, "I don't have any appetite."
"But..." Mrs. Elisa saw her slowly walking up the stairs but as if she was not in herself tonight. Mrs. Elisa had never seen her so low-spirited before, what happened to her today? She was flabbergasted about what the reason could be.
Getting in her room Sanaya closed the door behind her. This was the room she had been living in all alone when Nick was staying in a whole different room that belonged to him always where she did not get even a corner to live in since they got married. She used to laugh, smile, and blush before, unaware of what her husband was doing behind her back. And tonight, everything was as clear as water, if possible she would like to forget everything as a nightmare.
She breathed in heavily and sauntered into the bathroom, she took a bath this morning. Because of staying low-spirited, she was lost in another world, she did not eat lunch today.
"Is she upstairs?" Nick had his hands in his pocket when he was strolling towards the kitchen with a caring tone. Mrs. Elisa shook her head, "She came back just a while ago." Unknowingly he felt a little bit of happiness in his heart. "Ok. Tell Philip to cook all her favor..."
Mrs. Elisa had to interrupt him in the mid as she did not want him to do the same mistake as yesterday night. "She said she doesn't have an appetite."
"What?"
She bobbed her head again. Confused, whether she could tell him about her assumption or let it slide. As Nick ran towards the staircase he heard Mrs. Elisa's concerned voice, "Little Nick, I think... I think something is wrong with her..."
Hearing her Nick ran up the stairs as quickly as he was able to. He was worried about her unknowingly, he was unaware that hearing something was wrong with her, he was worried about her.
"Sanaya?" Nick knocked at the door and called out. The more she did not respond nor opened the door, he was becoming impatient. He hit on the door again as there was no response from inside of the room, "Sanaya, open the door."
But there was no sound coming inside the room. Rubbing the back of his neck he ordered in an authoritative tone, "Break this door!"
"Huh?" Aiden and Kyle both glanced at each other.
Impatience and enraged Nick gawked at them. "Did not you hear me?"
"Yes, boss." As per his order, they broke the door as fast as they could. When the door was broken he got into the room and scanned the whole room, Sanaya was not in there.
He ran to the bathroom quickly and called out, "Sanaya? Are you inside?"
Strange! Sanaya did not respond. He was becoming more intolerant second by second. "Sanaya, can you hear me? I know you are inside. I can't open this door which means you are inside. Please open the door." But even after his shouting the door remained unopened.
Worried Mrs. Elisa asserted, "Sanaya? It's me, Mrs. Elisa. Please open the door, we are worried about you, dear."
'Is she ok? Did she fall on the floor after slipping?' with the worry he decided he could not just stay put. Just when he was about to kick in the bathroom door it shot open. The first he saw was her eyes, those beautiful pair of hers were swollen but she had a sober smile playing on her face. "Sorry, I made you worried." With that Sanaya walked past Nick.
"What's wrong with you? Why your eyes are..." Sanaya did not give him the chance to finish. Staring at Mrs. Elisa Sanaya requested her, "Can you please take everyone out of my room? I am sleepy."
"Ahh ok." Along with Mrs. Elisa, both Kyle and Aiden left but Nick was still standing at the same place. When he was about to talk she asserted barely above a whisper, "Please leave my room, Mr. Davis."
Mr. Davis and her very calmness hurt his heart a little. "Why are you calling me Mr. Davis? I am your husband..." He was cut off again by her as she added faintly, "Are you?"
"What do you mean? Is something wrong? You are behaving weirdly." He touched her hand gently and tried looking into her eyes. But if only she would let him, she pushed him away as if she was not affected by him at all.
"Don't you know what I mean? Mr. Davis." That again, he disliked her calling him by any other name especially Mr. Davis but not by 'Nick'. But he tried to stay calm. "Are you angry at me? Ahh, is it because I... I wanted you to make lunch for me that day? Or did I do something that you..."
A crooked smile flashed on her face. Walking some inches away she wiped her tears that were unnoticed by him. "I don't dare to be angry at my boss."
"I am not your boss but your husband. We are at home, our home. Now, I am not your boss but your husband. Sanaya, look at me carefully." He moved towards her, extending his hand to touch her face. How easily she pushed him away. She took some inches from him again and asserted, "That was a make-believe fable, was not it?"
What was wrong with her? He could not interpret why she was behaving that way. Just two days passed, how did she change all of a sudden? He felt as if it was someone else in her body. Before when he talked to her she seemed to be so overwhelming, always trying to make him ... Happy. 'Make me happy...' He uttered. He found it funny to tease her but in that, he did not notice that she was doing all those just to make him happy...
"Look at me, Sanaya. I really can not understand what happened these past two days. Why are you talking this way? We are husband and wife, we got married and..."
"Everybody had a reason just like I had a reason to marry you. So since we don't love each other, why should we still pretend to each other?" How casually she said that. In the rests, he thought he might hear it wrong. 'Reason?' yes, he had one. But now, he was trying to change. He no longer wanted to be a jerk or keep teasing her, he wanted to...
He saw her hold the door for him and say, "I know you are doing me a favor by letting me stay here but... It's my room since I'm living here, can I get some sleep, please? If you please leave..." She did not even blink, he was only staring at her.
Without letting her finish he grabbed her hand and pinned her against the wall suddenly. "For God seck, stop it. I am Nicolas Davis, your husband. Stop calling me Mr. Davis, it irritates me."
"My husband? Then let me ask you, do you love me? Why did not you let me stay in your room but a separate room?" She hoped he would answer her, she hoped to prove to her that she was wrong, that he loved her and maybe what she saw was a misunderstanding but... He remained silent, only trampling her even one percent chance of her hope.
Sanaya took a deep sigh as looking at him, wishing and waiting for his answer that was not going to let her give any answer. She looked at him for one last time, seeing if he was not going to answer her. 'Please Nick, prove me wrong. I might think wrong, I might have mistaken you. Remember how you chased after me, you promised to take care of me, to love me. Prove me wrong that I should not be believing just what I saw but I should believe in my husband. Don't just stay silent, Nick. I am hurt...' She raised her hand slowly to touch his face that had been down. He did not even dare to look her in the eyes? He felt his fists weakening, he did not know what to say.
Time was up. Her hands stopped and a tremulous smile left her mouth as a drop of her precious tears left the corner of her eyes. She grabbed his hand and he looked up. "I am sorry, I don't know what to say... But..." So there was nothing he could say. There was nothing he could give her. Sanaya did not even want to believe that she might have thought wrong.
She pushed him out of her room and was about to close the door on his face but he stopped her. He grabbed a side of the door and questioned her, "Are you angry at me because we don't need in the same room? If it matters to you then we can live in the same room."
Sanaya might never hear anything more funniest than what Nick said just now. "Are you sorry for marrying me? Are you regretting?" She asked him looking into his eyes, standing exactly at his opponent and without blinking her eyelids.
Nick nodded his head in denial. He felt his heart hurting slowly just by looking at those calm eyes of her, he felt maybe she was sad. Slowly holding her hand he moved closer to her and then he proclaimed, "I am not. I never regretted anything I did with you."
"I see..." She had a feeble smile on her face as she stared at him for one last time. Nick was astounded by her sudden rush. She pushed him away and closed the door on his face when he was yet to understand what made her angry. Was not he being true to her? He never regretted marrying her, he really did not. Hitting on the door he said, "Sanaya, please open the door. If I did anything wrong, tell me. I don't know what made you so angry but..."
'He never regretted marrying me... So he married me just because of fantasy?... If he would tell me at least why does he have to lie to me, I... Maybe if he would tell me why...' Sanaya sat on the floor slowly, resting her back against the door while covering her mouth with her both hands. That pain in her heart was inexplicable, she could not stop her tears from coming out of her eyes...
"Sanaya, I am... I am sorry. I could not answer you... I... I don't know if I love you or not but..." Nick was standing at the door, knocking at it gently. He was not a coward, but when he did not know it himself he could not answer her.
But Sanaya heard him. She got one of her answers. 'He does not love you Sanaya, you heard it?' Her mind told her and she cackled sarcastically as her eyes were weeping like her heart and soul.
